The Municipality of East Hants Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture operates the East Hants Swimming Pool in Milford and coordinates various programs throughout East Hants all year long. Application deadline: January 31st, 2016 Active East Hants Winter Challenge Pick up your challenge card at the East Hants Swimming pool and complete activities to recieve prizes. There are three age categories and 18 fun indoor and outdoor tasks to complete. For each six activities completed, bring your card back to the pool to recieve a prize. REGISTRATION STARTS 9:00AM TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15 East Hants Swimming Pool 2359 Hwy 2, Milford COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM RECREATION FUNDING AVAILABLE FACILITY ACCESS FUNDS RECREATION LOAN PROGRAM - WINTER The Municipality of East Hants accepts applications year round to the Community Grants program, which includes events, leadership, youth programming, facility access and new parks, recreation and culture initiatives. Canadian Tire Jumpstart Fund Funding Program Fees up to $300 per year per child ages 4-18 years. Next deadlines: January 15th and April 15th. http://jumpstart.canadiantire.ca/ Call for more information, 902-883-3387. Kidsport Funding Program Fees & Equipment up to $300 per year per child (18 and under). Program must be a Provincial Sport Organization. Next deadline is January 1st, 2016 Funds are provided by the NS Department of Health and Wellness through the Thrive intiative. The Facility Access Funds are to support community groups and organizations who typically do not access recreation facilities in East Hants (East Hants Swimming Pool, Sportsplex, etc.). With Winter quickly approaching the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture have some fun winter equipment to loan out! • Snowshoes: various sizes of snow shoes can be borrowed by groups or individuals. • Igloo Building Blocks: also known as Eskimolds can be borrowed to build igloos with snow! This set comes with 4 blocks. • Snow Coach: This is part of our adapted equipment loan program. The snow coach is a sled that is great for those with mobility issues that want to get out on the trails or in the snow! The Municipality will be hosting East Hants Municipal Volunteer Recognition Awards in April. We will be collecting Volunteer nominations in the New Year! Look for nomination forms on our website in January 2016 at www.easthants.ca/recreation Opportunities must be provided free of cost to participants. The focus is on children, youth and families. Groups can apply for funding to off-set travel costs to an appropriate facility for programming (groups traveling 25km or more, one way). It also assists with costs incurred in providing programming within the community from an East Hants Recreational Facility (example: East Hants Swimming Pool, East Hants Sportsplex) and assists with costs associated in providing community recreational opportunities. Emergency First Aid: Includes CPR-A certification (Adult CPR). Emergency First Aid is for people who require a general knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. Bronze Cross Tuesdays 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Cost: $125.00 Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a pre-requisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor Certifications. Includes a timed 600 meter swim. Thrive Lifesaving Sport League Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 Snack provided. Registration is limited. This FREE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM is designed for 13-15 year olds and focuses on fun and fitness while introducing participants to Lifesaving Sport – a sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Lifesaving is the only sport in which skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes and only then applied in competition. Participants will be introduced to lifesaving techniques, practice rescues and strengthen their swimming skills. Known as the Zumba® “pool party,” the Aqua Zumba program gives new meaning to the idea of a refreshing workout. Integrating the Zumba philosophy with traditional aquatic fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba® blends it all together into a workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief. Aqua—Running Program Sundays 7:00 – 8:00 pm (deep-end) This is a program that combines the cardiovascular benefits of aerobic conditioning with enhanced flexibility and muscle balancing – all in one high powered yet protective workout! This is a sports-oriented workout which is easy to learn and provides an enjoyable workout that requires no swimming. Gentle Functional Fitness Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:00 - 10:00am Cardiovascular training, functional fitness, muscular endurance and strength, balance and flexibility training. Youth Swim Fit Thursdays 6:00pm – 7:15pm Cost: $ 105.00 (limit 12 participants) This program is perfect for youth who strive to be in great shape, or competitive swimmers who are looking to stay in shape during the off-season. The focus of Youth Swim Fit is to keep swimmers’ overall cardiovascular endurance and muscle development while further refining technique in all four strokes, associated turns, and dives. Prerequisite: Complete Swimmer 6; ages 10-17 All classes are pro-rated after the 2nd week. Fitness classes are scheduled from January 4th until March 31st. That’s 13 weeks of classes! Registration is unlimited. Recreational Synchronized Swimming We have a few spaces available in our popular Synchro program! Registration is for the remainder of the year, paid in two installments of $142. Registration fee includes a team bathing suit, cap and nose plug. This program introduces swimmers to the sport of synchro. Participants develop comfort in the water, basic sculling skills, and basic synchro positions with continued skill development as levels increase. Swimmers will be coached to develop a routine, based on their ability and skill level, to be performed at our recital in May.
