Dear Members and Potential Members,
Thank you for your interest in the Crossroads YMCA branches. We
are proud to have a history of serving the communities of Northwest
Indiana. At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day,
we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone,
regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to
learn, grow and thrive.
Through our Griffith, Hammond, Southlake (in Crown Point) and Whiting branches we remain committed to strengthening communities
through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
See you at the Y!

ABOUT US
We are a powerful association of men, women and children
joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the
potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a
sense of social responsibility.
We believe that lasting personal and social change can only
come about when we all work together to invest in our kids,
our health and our neighbors. That’s why strengthening
community is our cause. Every day we work side by side with
our neighbors in 10,000 communities to ensure that everyone,
regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity
to learn, grow and thrive.
When you join the Y you’re coming together with men, women
and children from your community who are committed to youth
development, healthy living and social responsibility.
We know firsthand how difficult it can be to find balance in
life. That’s why we’re here with you every day, making sure that
you, your family and your community have the resources
and support needed to learn, grow and thrive. We do that
by encouraging good health and fostering connections with
new and old friends through sports, fun and shared interests.
The Y offers programs, services and initiatives focused on
youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,
according to the unique needs of the communities it engages.
The Y is accessible to all people. Financial assistance is offered

PROGRAM POLICIES
Areas of Focus
The Y offers programs, services and initiatives focused on youth
development, healthy living and social responsibility, according to the
unique needs of the communities it engages. The Y is accessible to
all people. Financial assistance is offered to individuals and families
who cannot afford a membership.
A.W.A.Y. Program
Bring your YMCA membership card while traveling. The Y’s that
participate in the A.W.A.Y. program welcome you at their facility.
Code of Conduct
All individuals using the YMCA facilities are expected to conduct
themselves in a manner consistent with the character, welfare, best
interests and policies of the YMCA. Failure to do so will result in the
immediate dismissal from the premises and may result in revocation
of membership and/or usage privileges.
Crossroads YMCA
Crossroads YMCA is the association that includes four branches in
Lake County, Indiana: Griffith, Hammond, Southlake and Whiting.
Crossroads Y members can participate in programs at any branch,
not just their home branch.
Dress Code Policy
Garments that have pictures and/or writing that are vulgar, suggestive, indecent or otherwise offensive or that allude to drugs, alcoholic drinks or gang involvement are not allowed. Shirts and shoes
must be worn in building. Individuals are not permitted to dress in a
manner that’s unsafe or disrupts the mission of the Hammond Family
YMCA. Members who do not follow the dress code policy will be required to leave the building. Continual abuse of the policy will result
in membership suspension or cancellation. Workout clothing and
hygiene items should be carried in a gym bag. Shirts and proper gym
shoes must be worn at all times.
Financial Assistance Program
The Hammond Family YMCA wants everyone to enjoy its programs
and services. Adult and family members who are unable to pay the
full cost of YMCA membership may apply for reduced fees. The YMCA
will not turn anyone away due to inability to pay. A Financial Assistance application and last year’s IRS tax returns must be presented.
Crossroads YMCA— Griffith, Hammond, Southlake, and Whiting branches | Page 5
This process is required to be done annually. Failure to comply will
result in automatic cancellation. Please contact Jimmy Gonzales, Associate Director at ext. 228 for membership assistance.
Indiana Reciprocity
The Y movement is for youth development, healthy living and social
responsibility. We want to encourage members to utilize the Y as
often as they can. Sometimes, it’s more convenient for members to
utilize a Y in a different location when traveling, near a workplace or
in another region. Now, full facility/full privilege YMCA members have
the flexibility to use other Y facilities throughout the state, at no extra charge and receive member pricing on programs.
Locker Room Policy
The YMCA is not responsible for your personal belongings. Members
are urged to use locks on their lockers. We suggest not bringing
valuables of any kind. If you choose to use one of the free daily lockers, your belongings must be removed upon leaving the facility for
the day. Belongings left in the locker or locks left on daily lockers will
be removed at the end of the day—contents will be held for 2 weeks
then discarded. Use of CAMERA DEVICES are prohibited in all Locker
Rooms, Assisted Changing Rooms and Restrooms.
Medical Insurance
Individual medical insurance is NOT provided by Hammond Family
YMCA. Individuals are responsible for their own medical costs arising
from injuries while participating in YMCA activities.
Phone and Online Registration
If you are a YMCA member in good standing, you may phone-in
a program registration with the exception of childcare (childcare
registration and payments must be done in person), provided there
are still openings in the program and current credit card is on file.
For online registration, an email must be registered at the YMCA. All
programs, with the exception of childcare, can register online. We
cannot guarantee a space will be available when using this method.
Please call 219 845 1507 during business hours. Credit Card information is required.
Program Refunds
Program fees are refundable only in the form of a system credit if
the YMCA cancels the class. System credits are given for doctor
substantiated reasons and then only for the portion of the fees
unused after written notification. No refunds or credits will be given
for classes or sessions not held due to “acts of God” such as severe

facility, meaning the time we spend with children is scheduled. We
encourage the use of our facility (Open Gym, Open Recreation) by
our youth members; however, we do not provide staff supervision for
these times and recommend that you enroll your child in one of our
many programs if he or she plans on being at the YMCA for longer
than two hours.
• For safety and well-being, children ages 12-17 who are left at
the YMCA for the day without being enrolled in a specific program may be considered neglected. We reserve the right to contact the proper authorities.

Water Walking/Jogging Water walking offers several benefits over taking
your typical stroll on land. The water provides resistance, making your muscles work harder to move forward. At the same time, it provides buoyancy,

the exercise. Water jogging increases your cardiovascular capacity minus
wear and tear on your muscles.
