Summer 2015
T he Big Hoot!
Birmingham Children’s Hospital has
teamed up with Wild in Art to stage the
biggest ever mass-participation, public
art event in the city – The Big Hoot. Pupils
across the Federation have been using
their creativity to customise their own
Big Hoot Owl. The owls will be taking
perch across Birmingham for 10 weeks
from 8th July 2015. Some will then be
auctioned to raise funds for Birmingham
Children’s Hospital. To track down our
owls online visit thebighoot.co.uk
Cherry Oak
We are sailing...
During the Summer term 132 students from across the Federation have been out
sailing in fully accessible boats at Edgbaston Watersports. Cherry Oak selected
year 6 students to participate in a 10 week learn to sail session, every week
pupils looked more and more confident, some even take charge of the steering
independently. Victoria students from Key Stage 2, 3 and 14 -19 were offered a
two week taster session to try sailing. Victoria College took all 16 students over 10
weeks experiencing the full variety of weathers the UK has to offer. All participants
received a RYA Sailability certificate and badge. Students have really enjoyed the
sessions and we hope to be able to offer more opportunities like this soon.
This term was the first time that all our senior leaders from Cherry Oak, Victoria School
and Victoria College took part in training together. Led by our School Improvement partner
Amanda Clugston the team looked at their own leadership strengths and how these can be
used to get the very best outcomes for the Federation.
Di and Amanda, our Designated Senior
Leads for child protection have been
working together on the Local Authority
Safeguarding audit this term. The audit
generates an action plan which we will
be sharing with governors and staff.
Members of staff from the Federation Manual
Handling Team took part in a 2 day refresher
course on ‘Training the Trainers’. All nine members
of the team are qualified to train staff both across
the Federation and at other schools in safe manual
handling practices.
Good Citizen Awards
Pupils across the Federation have been
nominated for our annual Good Citizen Awards.
These special awards recognise an oustanding
contribution made to our school communities.
