Military Through the Ages in Jamestown
-Tammy Brackett
The Jamestown Settlement
opened its expansive grounds
to over 300 re-enactors depicting soldiers from the 11th
century through modern
times on March 15-16, 2014.
Our ZCAR members, Tammy
Brackett and Chris Grigg,
Maggie and Willie Wilson,
Jack Waters and Daryl and
MaryAnne Scruggs met at
GriggZGarage in Roxbury
around 10:00am and caravaned to the event in Williamsburg.
Even though weather warnings were dire, it truly was a
gorgeous day to peruse the re
-enactment encampments with a hot beverage and good friends! Our trip back in time included witnessing the evolution
of military power from the early centuries of knights and Vikings to the more modern depictions of an artillery display
from the 2014 Virginia Army National Guard 111th Field Unit.
We walked through woodsy camps of British Military, units from WWI and WWII, Rifle Regiments and even The British Women's Land Army. The chance to see authentic period dress and set pieces -weapons, food, communication devices,
transportation, tents and more- was truly a walk through history.
Your humble reporter adored the chance to see medieval life up close! A visit to the encampment of Lord and Lady Grey
was a highlight as Lord Grey was practicing sword with his man at arms and Lady Grey was entertaining visitors all
dressed in fur and silks, showing off her latest embroidery projects wrought on linen. Another re-enactment highlight
was the opportunity to see a modern herbal- a medical book depicting herbs and their medicinal uses- along with a young
girl creating bobbin lace.
And the cannons! A cannon firing, featuring cannons from different countries and centuries, was a sight to behold and
HEAR!
After walking the grounds and visiting the Jamestown settlement and the encampments, we briefly toured the extensive
museum at The Jamestown Settlement Museum. In the lobby, we were treated to the music of Cliff Williams and Lynn
Trott who played songs from the 17th century on period instruments. Truly a treat!
Then it was off to Anna's Restaurant for Italian food and conversation- always a highlight of any ZCAR excursion!
We so hope lots of you will join us should we decide to make another trip to Jamestown in 2015. It really was a very fun
and educational Z trip!

What sort of work do you
do? I own a company with
my Father called Hometech
Consulting, LLC. Our company specializes in home
performance testing and auditing. Such tests would include Blower Door and Duct
Testing. These tests check
pressures to determine how
tightly sealed a house and/or
HVAC duct system is. I perform these tests on existing
homes, new homes, commercial buildings and I also
Tyler Tetreault 2003 Nissan 350z
certify Energy Star and
Earthcraft Virginia homes.
Energy Star and Earthcraft
Virginia are green building programs that certify homes that are built above today’s code. I came out of high
school working for my Father. He owns another company called The Drying Co. & Thermaltec. That company specializes in insulation, water restoration, water proofing, weatherization, energy auditing, ect. I took interest in the
energy auditing part of the business and along came Hometech Consulting, LLC. I went and got certified to test
homes then became one of the youngest raters in the country. Today, I have certified over 100 Earthcraft and Energy Star homes and continue to rate/audit homes on a daily basis.
2. How did you get into Z Cars? Tell us about mods, etc. I have always been a big fan of the Nissan 300ZX Twin
Turbo. A few years ago I was heading home from work and passed one on the side of the road that was for sale. I
rushed home and told my Mother Nansea and my Step Dad JR about it. Next thing I know we have a 300ZX Twin
Turbo in the family. That’s where it all started. A few months later I ended up purchasing one of my own and have
been a Z fan ever since. Today, I have a 2003 Nissan 350z. She’s my baby girl and I love every moment I get to
drive her. Upgrades include; carbon fiber hood & trunk, xxr 531 wheels, Tokico shocks with Megan lowering
springs, JWT pop charger intake, Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer, DC Sport headers, Berk HFCs, and Injen dual
exhaust. The Zs true color is black but currently is dipped Khaki.
3. What do you do for fun?If the weather is nice, I love going on cruises, exploring new roads, attending car meets,
and taking the boat out on the river. I always love working on the Zs and recently got into powder coating. I also
like working out, playing soccer and of course hanging out with my love of my life, Ashley.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? Many people are usually surprised when I tell
them I own my own company. Another fun fact about me is that a year ago, at the age of 21, I became a first time
homebuyer. I can’t believe it’s been a year already!
