WINTER ADVENTURE FEBRUARY-MARCH 2016
Winter adventure
February – March 2016
A group tour in Jämtland and
Swedish Lapland with a visit to
Jokkmokk’s market
The Northern Contrast Winter Adventure is
a unique Swedish winter experience that will
stay with you for the rest of your life. We offer
an 8-day expedition through northern Sweden.
The trip includes a dogsled tour through
untouched winter landscapes and driving a
snowmobile across frozen lakes.
You fly to Östersund Airport in central Sweden.
From there we drive with 4x4 cars to our final
destination: the remote village of Jokkmokk in
Lapland.
Along the way you enjoy various activities, all
under the guidance of experienced staff. You
can prepare your own meals with traditional
ingredients from the rich Swedish kitchen, like
wild berries, moose, reindeer and tunnbröd.
Traveling is mostly done during daytime.
At night there is a big chance we see the
magnificent Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).
The trip includes driving a
snowmobile across frozen lakes

Arrival at Östersund airport. We visit the
friendly capital of Jämtland where we will eat
together.
In the evening we drive for just one hour to
Hammerdal and stay overnight at
Camp Route 45.
Day 2
After an early breakfast we prepare for a
spectacular activity: in the Hotagen nature
reserve we go on a snow scooter safari (as a
driver or as a passenger).
This wonderful tour crosses forests, lakes and
snowy mountains. You can enjoy nature while
speeding over vast, frozen lakes.
Along the way we will stop for a snack and a
drink by a campfire.
Day 3: Lapland
Day 3
After a relaxing morning, we leave for
Arvidsjaur in Lapland for an overnight stay.
Swedish Lapland is like a winter fairy-tale
landscape. On a clear night you will probably

Day 4 and 5: Jokkmokk –
Gäddede
Day 4
After breakfast we travel deeper into Lapland
for a cultural highlight: Jokkmokk. We also
visit the Arctic Circle and the monument at
Napapiiri.
At the first weekend of February the Jokkmokk
winter market takes place, which is a 400year old tradition. Here Lappland’s traditional
products – manufactured by Sami, the original
residents of Lappland – are being traded and
sold. This is the place to taste Sami culture in
every possible way.
The other weeks we will visit Jokkmokk town
and Ájtte, the Swedish Mountain and Sami
Museum. In the evening we drive back to
Arvidsjaur for a cosy dinner and an overnight
stay.
Travel distance: 2 x 150 km.
Day 5
After breakfast we head for the rough
Gäddede scenery near the Norwegian border
for an overnight stay in a unique place in
nature.
Travel distance: +/- 450 km.

Day 6 and 7: Hällingsåfallet –
Hotagen
Day 6
We visit the majestic frozen waterfall of
Hällingsåfallet. During winter it is almost
impossible to get there. But with the help of our
guide and a 4x4 or snowmobile, we are able to
reach this incredible place. Here you will see
the longest water/ice-filled canyon in Europe.
In the afternoon we go to a village up in
the fjällen (Swedish mountains) and stay in
comfortable cottages. In the evening you can
enjoy a visit to a luxurious spa with sauna
or immerse yourself in a wood-fired hot tub
outside in the snow.
Day 7
Today we go dogsledding in the Hotagen
nature reserve; with your own dog sled team
you travel over frozen lakes and snowy forest
trails. Experience speed and unity with nature.
Enjoy the silence.
Day 8: Östersund airport
Day 8
After enjoying this one-week road trip through
the North of Sweden, it is time to return to
civilization. Undoubtedly with unforgettable
memories, many photos to show and much to
talk about back home.
After breakfast we depart from Hammerdal to
Östersund for the return trip by plane.

We are Bert Kruiswijk and Edward van
Munster. Among the two of us we share seven
years of living and working in the Swedish
province of Jämtland.
Besides running a campground and a store,
we organize an increasing number of activities
for our guests. That’s where our passion lies:
discovering the beauty of Sweden and sharing
our experiences.
This resulted in Northern Contrast Guided
Tours. Together with partners in the region we
offer holiday packages in what is often called
‘The last wilderness of Europe’.
Knowing the culture and the best spots in
Northern Sweden we decided to start Northern
Contrast. Now we invite you to come over and
discover the Swedish wilderness for yourself.
