Taylor County is located in the geographical center of Kentucky.
Campbellsville is the
county seat and is home
to Campbellsville University, a four-year private
college offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. The college campus covers 75

Another component
of the university is Clay
Hill Memorial Forest, a 135-acre regional center for environmental education and research. Trails lead visitors through a beautiful forest made up
mostly of oak, hickory, American beech and maple trees.
The history of Campbellsville and Taylor County is showcased in several structures in the area that are open for tours, including the Jacob Hiestand House, constructed in 1823. One of only 12 German stone houses
in the state, the house is known for its hand-tooled masonry and features
period furnishings.
The Atkinson-Griffin Log House, located within Green River Lake State
Park, served as a Confederate hospital after the Battle of Tebbs Bend,
where Confederate General John Hunt Morgan began his 1863 raid into
Indiana and Ohio. Today, the log cabin features a diorama depicting that
Civil War battle.
Just over the hill lies beautiful Green River Lake, an 8,200-acre water
playground attracting both residents and visitors looking for summer days
filled with boating, skiing, fishing and swimming. The state
