Fiscal Year Dues Deadline is June 30th
PGA Members and Apprentices are reminded that payment of their 2015-2016 Fiscal
Year dues must be received by the PGA of America no later than June 30th to avoid
suspension and penalties.
Danny Balin Wins on LatinoAmerican Tour
Highlights Tournament Success Stories
Congratulations to Danny Balin of Burning Tree Country Club
on his win last week at the Guatemala Stella Artois Open on
the PGA Tour LatinoAmerica. Danny shot 70-65-66 and was
tied for the lead in the final round when play was suspended
and the results reverted back to the 54-hole scores. That
win moved Danny in to the top 5, an important
accomplishment as the Latino and Canadian Tour players are vying for spots on the
web.com tour from their overall performances.
David Pastore (T-22nd) and Michael Miller (T-31st) got off to good starts on the PGA Tour
Canada opening event. David and Michael are both graduates of our Met PGA Junior
Tour as is Kelly Shon who finished tied for 3rd in the LPGA Shoprite Classic in Atlantic City
this past weekend. Kelly will be in the field at the upcoming KPMG Women’s PGA
Championship at Westchester Country Club, June 11th – 14th.
KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Week Filled
with Golf Activities and Highlighted by a Major
Championship at Westchester C.C.
on June 11th – 14th
In addition to the myriad of events surrounding the
Championship, this will be a landmark moment for the PGA
thanks to their partnership with the LPGA and KPMG to
create the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The week
will not only bring together a world-class, annual major golf championship with several
of women who have been or continue to be part of our Section competing at
Westchester. Liz Caron of Mill River Club and wife of A-1 Jason Caron qualified last fall in
the LPGA T&CP Championship along with Jean Bartholomew, formerly of Garden City and
an incredible athlete growing up on Long Island. Jean is a former Met PGA Junior Girls
Champion as is Kelly Shon of Port Washington who is in the field as well. Nannette Hill,
the 2014 Women’s Met Open Champion and a product of Pelham CC and former student
of Mike Diffley is one of the top alternates in the field as of two weeks prior.
Prior to the start of play there will be events at Eisenhower Park (for kids and vets on
June 6th), Rye Playland (June 7th), at KPMG Headquarters (June 9th), at the New York
Liberty game at Madsion Square Garden (June 9th), at the New York Mets game at Citi
Field with Brittany Lincicome throwing out the first pitch on June 9th) and finally an
afternoon program on June 10th at the famed Bryant Park in the heart of Manhattan.
Add to this a women’s leadership summit featuring Condoleeza Rice among others and it
will be a week meant to use community initiatives to inspire and develop new
generations of golfers and female leaders.

June Offers Two Lincoln/Club Car Met PGA Pro-Presidents
Probably no event on our schedule is more important or more special than the Lincoln/Club Car Pro-Presidents. This year’s
tournaments will also be supported by WeatherBug. Muttontown will be an exceptional host for our Long Island contingent on
Thursday, June 4th while the incomparable Century Country Club will be the venue for the Westchester/CT and Upstate teams on
Tuesday, June 23rd. If your President is unavailable or not a golfer, professionals can invite any other officer or
club official to team up in this better ball of two competition.
Registration is Open for Met PGA Pro-Am at Pinehurst, Nov. 1st-4th
The excitement of the 2014 US Open and Women’s Open Championships is not that far from our memories so they will
certainly help promote our return to Pinehurst for our annual Met PGA Pro-Am on Nov. 1st – 4th. Registration is now open
and we expect the field to fill rapidly with this being our final year of the current 3-year agreement on the 2014 US Open venues. Our
54-hole championship will be conducted on #2, #4 and #8 with several practice round options as well. Contact the office immediately
to secure a spot in this year’s National Car Rental Met PGA Pinehurst Pro-Am event.
Lincoln Pro-Am Schedule Includes June Events at North Fork, Waccabuc
Our upcoming Lincoln Pro-Am schedule includes a brand new site, North Fork Country Club on Monday, June 8th,
followed by Waccabuc on June 15th. There are still plenty of spots at Waccabuc, always a popular venue for
professionals and amateurs alike. The low combined gross and net team will also qualify for the end of the season
Mohegan Sun Tournament of Champions (Oct. 7th). You can also follow the “Race for the Lease” as the standings are
updated after each event and rewards are provided for participation, test drives and hosting. Please support our
sponsor and enjoy these important Pro-Am events!
Glen Oaks to Be Honored at 64th Annual National Awards Dinner
The Metropolitan Golf Writers Association will be holding their 64 th Annual National Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 9th
at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown at 6 pm. Our host site for the 2014 Met PGA Championship, Glen Oaks, will be
recognized as the Club of the Year. Other honorees include Nick Price (Gold Tee Award), Gary Player and The Player Foundation
(Winnie Palmer Award), Morgan Pressel and Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer (Bing Crosby Tournament Sponsor Award), Ron Sirak
(Lincoln Werden Golf Journalism Award), Lauren Childs (Mary Bea Porter Award) and the WMGA (Distinguished Service Award). For
more information, contact Kate Keller at kate@metgolfwriters.org or call 914-909-4847.
Long Drive Contest at Empire City Casino
We are still working on details, dates and format for the Met PGA’s Long Drive Contest at Empire City Casino. The night of the finals,
slated for mid-August, will be a social event that we believe our professionals and their friends and families will truly enjoy being a part
of. While we are working on the plans, please take a minute to also contact jvoorheis@pgahq.com if you know of someone or if you
are a potential competitor who will be interested in our quest to see who is the longest hitter in the Section.

Please be aware of the upcoming 2015 deadlines in July to enter three events that are tied into National PGA Championships.
Registration opened on May 27th and the deadline is Tuesday, July 7th for the Met PGA Professional Championship being played on
Aug. 3-5 at Fairview CC & Golf Club of Purchase. Club Car, Mercedes-Benz and OMEGA are presenting sponsors. The deadline is

PGA Golf Village on Oct. 28th – Nov. 1st.
Met PGA Club Association Mailing is Out
Please be on the lookout for our recent mailing on the 2015 Met PGA Club Association. Clubs support this effort with
a $300.00 annual dues that supports all of our good works in junior golf, employment, education, communications,
public relations and a host of other special activities. The mailing was sent to head professionals, Club Managers and
Club Presidents so please make sure you do not miss this important information. Thanks to several clubs who have
already sent in their payment.
Head Pro Support Tops $8,000.00 thus far for Assistants Contribution Fund
Including the Assistants Contribution Fund link on the 2015 Tournament Dues payments once again had an incredible impact on increasing donations from our head professionals. The Assistants Contribution Fund supports the Assistants Tour events and provides for
40% of the field to earn a paycheck as opposed to 33%. This fund will also support the William A. Mitchell Scholarship Fund to assist
needy apprentices with their costs of education. If you missed making the donation and would like to contribute, head professionals
can click here to support this effort.
Met PGA Junior Golf Fundraisers Getting Started
Once again in 2015 we are asking our assistant professionals as well as all of our PGA Members
to assist with the important task of raising dollars to support our efforts for Junior Golf. With
over 110 events plus our commitment to The First Tee, it is easy to understand why your help
and support are so necessary.
Many of our assistants have also mentioned that selling raffles and running a fund-raiser is tough for them to do. That is why we
instituted several years ago our policy that any assistant who raises over $1,000.00 will get entry into the Assistants Championship top
tier automatically and they can give raffle tickets to their fund-raiser supporters. If you would like some help with an event for your
club, contact our office or any of the Assistants Board. This year we have also established an initiative called The Birdie Challenge
where members can pledge money for every birdie recorded on our Junior Tour. This is a very easy way to get your juniors and your
club members involved at a very reasonable commitment level. Check this out by clicking here. Our thanks to everyone who gets
behind our Junior Golf programs and others who are planning on staging an event to help us try to again top our $100,000.00 goal for
2015.

Women’s Met Open Championship Registration is Open
Head professionals are reminded to please remind their female staff and top women amateurs to register for the Lincoln Women’s Met
Open Championship Presented by KPMG. This year’s Championship moves to Upper Montclair in nearby Clifton New Jersey on July 6 th
and 7th.
PGA HOPE is Off to a Great Start
Not every professional is at a club like Rolling Hills or Westchester Country Club where the
members are incredibly committed to helping with the Patriot Golf Day programs. However, the
PGA HOPE golf program at West Point has been amazingly inspiring for everyone involved.
Working with vets from the Montrose VA, the volunteer professionals working under the direction
of Kelli Clayton and Jonathan Gold seem to have gotten as much out of the first two weeks as the
enthusiastic and willing vets. A special thanks to host professional Andy Crane at West Point and to Dave Carazo, Jim McCann, Bob
Bigonette, Kregg Moyer, Kevin Rodine, Paul Glut, Mike Turnesa, John Kennedy, Barry Troiano, David Young and Tom Henderson. The 6week program will conclude with a special graduation ceremony on July 2 nd on the grounds at West Point. We are still looking for
donations of sets of golf clubs, golf bags, and range balls. If you are able to help please email Kelli at kclayton@pgahq.com.

PGA Scholarship Recipients Announced
Once again we are pleased to announce several PGA Scholarship recipients from the Met Section who have achieved the distinction
based primarily on their academic accomplishments, as well as their extracurricular involvement. This year we had five scholarship
recipients from a list of 10 very talented and worthy applicants from both the high school senior and college student pool of those
meeting the difficult academic requirements. Our congratulations to high school seniors Sangwon Han (son of Sprain Lake GC Teaching
Professional Insook Han) and Kiera Townsend, daughter of Chelsea Piers professional Tim Townsend. Both students had over 2100 on

current GPA of 3.93 while Diane is a senior with a 4.0 GPA currently and overall. Our congratulations to all of the recipients as well as
those not selected who have achieved so much and continue to excel in their academic and student pursuits.

the second year in a row the Met Section has two finalists for the PGA’s most coveted honor. We are also pleased to announce that
