Volume 15, Issue 8 Vital Signs JULY EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH page 2 WELCOME DR. MIRON page 5 june employee of the month Selina Flores Short Work Bio Selina was hired at CBHA in May of 2013. Her job title was Medical Registrar and some of her responsibilities were checking in medical patients, scheduling appointments and doing reminder phone calls. She recently became a Patient Services Representative (PSR). She is knowledgeable in the medical, dental, eye care, and patient benefits departments and is the designated trainer for medical & dental registrars at 14th Ave. Why She Won Selina was nominated for EOTM by her supervisor Rebecca Wolfs. “ Selina is the lead registrar and the go-to person when I am out of the office.” Rebecca goes on to say, “She has taken the lead to help train other registrars when Ortho began at 14th Ave.” Selina has gone above and beyond by helping an elderly women who needed help in the restroom and has helped a clinic manager find missing patients. When there are new hires Selina helps by giving tours of the facility and checks their Spanish ability. She also works with Dr. Idrogo to ensure patients needing specialist care actually follow through on getting that care. Selina is a great CBHA employee! The Scoop Selina was excited and surprised when Rebecca informed her she had been chosen EOTM. Selina thought Rebecca was congratulating her on her marriage! She really enjoys her job, being able to interact with patients and is always looking for ways to learn more about her job. Selina just got married and has a 5 year old boy. She, her husband and her son enjoy the outdoors a lot – biking, swimming, hiking and reading are some of their favorite activities. She would like to thank Rebecca for the nomination and her co-workers for trusting her and letting her teach them. 2 | Vital Signs thank you, pharmacy staff! My husband has been quite ill since March of this year. He spent almost a month at Virginia Mason Hospital as an inpatient and has been having treatment on an outpatient basis in the Tri Cities ever since. During this time he has needed to have prescriptions filled at times when we weren’t able to return to our Othello Family Clinic Pharmacy. We have found ourselves at pharmacies both in Seattle and the Tri City area. We admit that we may be a little biased in favor of the OFC Pharmacy; however, we don’t think so. We have observed that our own pharmacists, pharmacy techs and pharmacy assistants always go the extra mile to serve us. They work quickly to reduce wait times and are helpful when dealing with us. The pharmacists explain how the medication we are receiving will work and what to watch for in side effects. This is all important. However, the best thing of all is everyone’s attitude when interacting with us – the patients. You are patient and kind and it means a great deal to those you serve. Thank you, Tim, Jessica, pharmacists, techs and assistants for what you do every day. You take your time and deal with the patients on an individual basis – even when the lines are long. People are often not at their best when they are at your window and you have to deal with them. We have observed first hand that this doesn’t always happen at some of the pharmacies we have visited. You all do a great job and we appreciate it! Out & About Sincerely, Fay Coats, Marketing Assistant 3 | Vital Signs Congratulations to Airman Eleazar Pruneda III on graduating from the Air Force Basic Military Training. He is the son of Eleazar Pruneda & Janie Leal. Nathan Spinelli Gilberto Lara Rebecca Wolfs Dulcye Field 4 | Vital Signs Ariandna Garcia Matthew Walker Valerie Gomez Maria Cardoso Kimberly Yerbich Nathan Spinelli Mathew Garza Welcome Dr. Luis Miron Dr. Miron’s path to becoming a dentist began in 2005 when he received his Doctor of Dental Science degree from Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala City, Guatemala. From there he went to Andres Bello University School of Dentistry in Chile where he received a Master degree in Oral Implants, Implant Surgery and Prosthodontics. Along the way he spent some time in private practice. Finally, in 2011, he moved to the United States where he served a three-year residency at the University of Connecticut in Dental Medicine in their Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. He graduated from that program in June, 2014. He also served as a clinical instructor in their AEGD program for 1 year. Now it was time to find a job! His passion and philosophy in treating people is giving back to his patients what they have lost, i.e., their smile and their confidence with having teeth that are both functional and attractive. With these goals in mind he interviewed in various places around the country – Florida, and a number of clinics in the Seattle area. “Then I came here to CBHA,” he said. “I found what I was looking for. I see potential here. I will have a chance to grow and I am excited about that. CBHA participates in the AEGD program and I will enjoy working with the students.” Dr. Miron liked the area where he had lived in Connecticut. “However, I could see that this area would fit in better with my love of the outdoors. The climate is milder than the East Coast. I enjoy road cycling and just being outside,” he said. “Tennis is my favorite sport; there are tennis courts here and I have also found a tennis club in Kennewick.” Dr. Miron has shipped his bike and tennis rackets and looks forward to their arrival this weekend. He also likes to read – science fiction and mysteries are his main interests. He is fluent in both Spanish and English. “I will be treating patients soon and I am excited to get to work!” 5 | Vital Signs Dental Asst. of the Month July Dental Asst. of the Month Congratulations, Ruby Garcia!
