The Morehead-Cain: This is a full-tuition, merit based scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill. LCHS can nominate seniors who best embody the character of a Morehead Scholar (Physical Vigor, Scholarship, Moral Force of Character, and Leadership). Seniors are encouraged to see Mrs. Dietrich for information and the applications for consideration. All application materials are due by THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22. More information can be found at www.moreheadcain.org The Park Scholarship: This is a full-tuition, merit based scholarship to NC State. LCHS can endorse seniors who best exemplify the character of a Park Scholar (Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character). Seniors are encouraged to see Mrs. Dietrich for information and the applications for consideration. All application materials are due by THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22. More information can be found at: www.ncsu.edu/park_scholarships/ The Bryan Scholarship: Davidson College awards $30,000 annually to a freshman male and female scholarathlete. Candidates are chosen on the basis of academic and personal excellence, leadership, and potential for success in Davidson's NCAA Division 1 athletic program. For more information go to : www.davidson.edu/gotgame Don’t Text and Drive Scholarship: The Don’t Text and Drive Scholarship was created to promote Digital Responsibility and Safety for all. Students in any grade level can apply. To apply and write an essay on the topic, “I pledge to not text and drive because…” Go to the website: http://www.digitalresponsibility.org/dont-text-and-drive-scholarship/ by September 30, 2016 U.S. Senate Youth Scholarship Program: The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) is an educational opportunity for outstanding high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing careers in public service. To be eligible, a student must be a junior or senior in high school who is currently serving in an elected or appointed capacity in student government. Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship: This award honors high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Applicants must be a senior with a 2.6 GPA or higher and play at least one sport. To apply, log in to http://www.wendysheisman.com/ and follow the instructions. Completed applications are due on October 3, 2016. AES Engineering Scholarships: AES Engineering believes that a high GPA should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves financial assistance. Therefore, they are offering a scholarship program open to all students who wish to pursue higher education. Students must submit an essay via email of up to 1000 words in response to the prompt found at this website: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm by October 6, 2016. Nuestra Juventud Scholarship: This scholarship is sponsored by the NC Society of Hispanic Professionals and recognizes graduating seniors of Hispanic descent for their leadership, academic achievement, and character. Applications are available in Guidance. The deadline for submission is October 14, 2016 Levine Scholars Program: This is a program offered by UNC Charlotte for our highest achieving seniors. Levine scholars are talented students who epitomize dedication to community service, intellectual curiosity, and the capacity for ethical leadership. More information can be found at: http://levinescholars.uncc.edu . Seniors must be nominated by a counselor, teacher, or principal. All nominations are due by October 15, 2016. Daughters of the American Revolution: Do you think you display the attributes of a Good Citizen? If you would like to be nominated as Lee County High School’s Good Citizen, and be eligible to compete in the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Essay Contest, then submit the a brief statement of how you embody the character of a Good Citizen (Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism) to Mrs. Dietrich in Guidance. All materials are due October 15, 2016. The Gen. Hugh Shelton National Student Leadership: This $10,000 a year renewable award is available to entering freshmen at NC State University who demonstrate the potential for dedicated and selfless leadership. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of personal integrity, orientation to community service, and commitment to personal growth. Horatio Alger Scholarship Program: The Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is the only major scholarship effort that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. This award is based on financial need, involvement in school and community, academic achievement, and a strong commitment to higher education. $20,000 scholarships are given out nationwide. The Centennial Scholarship: This award is available to entering freshmen at NC State who are interested in the College of Textiles. Lee County High School is able to nominate 2 high achieving seniors for this award. Interested students should come talk to Mrs. Dietrich in Guidance and have a student resume to turn in for nomination consideration. Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Coca-Cola Scholarships are awarded based on character, leadership capacity, academic achievement, and dedication to community service. Being a Coca-Cola scholar means a lifetime of service and giving back to one’s community. National Scholars receive $20,000 each, and Regional Scholars $10,000. Voice of Democracy: A national prize of $30,000 will be awarded to the winner of this competition. To participate, please write and record a 3-5 minute speech on this years’ topic and submit both the essay and CD to our VFW post with your application form by the deadline. This year’s topic is: “My Responsibility to America.” Applications available in Guidance or at: https://www.vfw.org/VOD/ Deadline is November 1, 2016 Ron Brown Scholars Program: The Ron Brown Scholar Program awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African American students who are currently seniors and plan to pursue undergraduate degrees full-time. Come by Guidance for an application or visit http://www.ronbrown.org. All application materials must be postmarked by the FIRST deadline of November 1, 2016 in order to be considered for additional scholarships, or the FINAL deadline of January 9, 2017 for only the one. The Prudential Spirit of Community Award: This award honors outstanding community service by young people in grades 9-12. $1,000 will be awarded at the state level along with a trip to Washington DC to compete for national prizes. John Montgomery Belk Scholarship: Belk scholars demonstrate integrity, intellectual enthusiasm, global awareness, and leadership potential. This scholarship provides tuition and fees for Davidson College and 2 summer stipends. LCHS can nominate 1 senior. Interested students please submit a résumé along with a personal statement to Mrs. Dietrich in Guidance by Friday, November 4, 2016. Thomas Wolfe Scholarship: This scholarship seeks to identify and reward students with exceptionally focused extensive written work along with a 500 word personal essay. The award is a full, 4year scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill. You must apply to UNC Chapel Hill by October 15th and then complete the scholarship application online at: http://englishcomplit.unc.edu/creative/scholarship/tws by November 15, 2016.t The BBB Torch Scholarship: The Better Business Bureau sponsors the BBB Torch scholarship to recognize students who personify high ethics as demonstrated through leadership, community service, personal integrity, and academic excellence. An award of $5,000 is given to eligible college-bound juniors and seniors. AXA Achievement Scholarship: These awards range from $10,000 to $15,000 nation-wide. Applicants must demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, and respect for self, community, and others. NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Award: The Young Entrepreneur Foundation is offering scholarships to seniors who have established and are running their own small business. Do you babysit? Mow lawns? Rake leaves? Then you should check this out! Apply online beginning October 1, at www.NFIB.com/YEA . All applications are due by December 18, 2016. Discover Student Loans Scholarship: Discover Student Loans will award $2,500 to the winners of 5 random drawings held in June, September, December, and March. Eligible students must be seniors in good standing who plan to attend a college or university in the fall. You can even earn more chances to enter by sharing the sweepstakes!! Cappex also has their own scholarship programs is giving away thousands in scholarships for college. Some of their most popular scholarships include: "A GPA Isn't Everything," "I Don't Want to Pay for College" and "Cutting Edge Careers." To apply, simply fill out a free profile, visit the Scholarships tab, and click Apply. Scholarships will be given to students with well-rounded profiles, so don't hold back on the details!
