Synthetic Fibre Ropes
Dyneema Rope
Ultra High Molecular Weight
Polyethylene (UHMWPE) is a special
form of the conventional polyethylene
with a much higher strength to weight
ratio than conventional polyethylene.
It is known by the trade name
Dyneema.
This material is characterised by
extremely high breaking strengths
with very minimal stretching and is
often used for yachting ropes.

On a weight-for-weight basis,
Dyneema fibre is 15 times stronger
than steel, which makes it strong
enough to take the highest loads.
The rope is also lightweight while still
being smooth and easy to handle.

than Aramid fibres of the same
weight

› High insulation properties and floats
on water
› Resistant to most acids and alkalis,
cold alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones
and bleaches
› Minimal risk of damaging backlash if
rope breaks
› Excellent service life - lasts twice as
long as steel wire rope and cheaper

› The fibres are tough (excellent
abrasion resistance) and smooth
(very low coefficient of friction)

Natural Fibre Ropes
Manila Rope
This rope is manufactured from fibres
from the leaves of the Abacca plant
(Musa textiles). Manila is the strongest
of the natural fibres and results in hard
wearing, low stretch, general purpose
ropes which are superior to sisal in
their resistance to weathering, fungal
attack and moisture.
