Finding Grand Pooba - Destiny Riders Canada
Finding Grand Pooba Once upon a time a young at heart couple, Al and Vi, left for a motorcycle trip across Canada on their trustworthy stead called ‘Old Camo’. They left from Glovertown, Newfoundland and travelled through the beautiful scenery of the Atlantic Provinces and Quebec. Due to back and hip problems, Al had to stop on a regular basis to do his exercises. Al being directionally and geographically challenged figure the fastest way to Vancouver was through Toronto. When he realized his error he decided to make the best of it and they went whale watching in Lake Ontario. Before they arrive in Toronto, their trusty steed, ‘Old Camo’ through the sophisticated infotainment system gives Al a warning that all is not right. Pulling off in Oshawa they decided to look for a repair shop. The first one they came across looked very small and sad. It was untidy and truly set up for motorcycle care. On top of that they could hear the employees arguing in the back. They decide to continue on their way and discovered a second repair shop not much better than the other. But with bikes laying around and a sign on the door that said ‘Coffee break. Back in two hours.’ Al and Vi sigh at what they see and wonder what they will do. Then Vi spots a sign across the street that reads "Motorcyle Repair and Spa". The sign says two blocks north (or turn left for 2 blocks for those directionally challenged.) They were discouraged but decided to check it out anyway. When the shop comes into view they cannot believe their eyes. The facility is extremely large and was apparently al-inclusive according to the signs and flags. There were smiling employees and customers everywhere, all motorcycles were clean and shiny and there are many bays available for repairs. Al and Vi are greeted by the repair and spa ambassadors known as Ken and Shirley. Al asked how come this facility is so far ahead of the other ones they had seen on the way. In unison both Ken and Shirley respond: "Grand Pooba". He taught us to appreciate our motorcycles, how to care for them and how to ride them safely and having the right attitude about riding. Al and Vi ask, "Can you take us to see him?" Ken and Shirley nod and signal for two more ambassadors known as Dick and Pieta to join them. They take Al and Vi into the large repair bays with the large heated indoor storage area for repaired bikes and those waiting to be repaired. Next to that were the bike showers and dryers. All stations were staffed with trained caretakers. They showed Al and Vi shelves of motorcycle products and tools. Al and Vi are very impressed but do not see Grand Pooba so they repeat their request "Can you take us to see Grand Pooba?". Ken, Shirley, Dick and Pieta looked puzzled and confer among themselves. After a couple of minutes they invite Al and Vi to follow them to the other side. Here they discover safety training rooms staffed by very knowledgeable trainers. One room is equipped for group sessions and the other is equipped with individual learning centres. There is another room with shelves and shelves of safety DVD’s. Out back is a very large parking lot set up for practical, hands-on training. They are told that customers can use the training area throughout the entire riding season but it is especially useful during their annual spring tune up sessions. Al and Vi see nothing of Grand Pooba and wonder if they are making themselves clear. We don't see Grand Pooba, can you take us where he lives? Ken, Shirley, Dick and Pieta confer among themselves again. After some discussion, Dick says follow us. Al and Vi end up in a very large room with several adjoining rooms. In the large room there are several coffee/tea/beverage stations that also offer some comfort foods, there are tables and chairs, and there are sofas, love seats and lazy-boy chairs placed throughout the room. Al says this is very impressive. Pieta says it was Grand Pooba’s vision but the Grand Poobess was the one who made this area a reality. Off to one side is a door labelled "Games Room", next to it is a door labelled "Hot Tub and Sauna", on the other side is a door labelled "Over Night Guests" and at the back of the room is a door labelled "Biker Chapel". Pieta says Grand Pooba taught us that the best motorcycle ride is a relaxed ride. Your body, soul and spirit needs a tune up just like your motorcycle. Viola says, "Is this where Grand Pooba lives?" Ken, Shirley, Dick and Pieta nod their heads and smile. Al asks, "May we talk to him?" All four faces of the ambassadors grow suddenly serious. Ken says, "That would be impossible!" "Why" "He died many years ago." Al says, "we asked to see him and you showed us your service area, your training area and your relaxation area. You said nothing about his death." Dick responds, "you did not ask about his death, you asked to see where he lives and we showed you."
