Crowdsourcing UCD
DEFINITION
‣ Wired’s Jeff Howe coined the term crowdsourcing
• “Simply defined, crowdsourcing represents the act of a company or institution
taking a function once performed by employees and outsourcing it to an
undefined (and generally large) network of people in the form of an open call.”
• The Rise of Crowdsourcing, Jeff Howe, WIRED, 2006 ‣ We used online research community, to be specific
• “An online research community is a group of people who have been provided with
an online environment in which to interact with each other (and the client and
researcher) about topics related to a research interest.”
• Online research communities – a user guide, Pete Comley, International Journal of Market
Research (2008)

• You have to remember what comic comes next when
reading chronologically.
• I don’t like that I have to close the comic in order to
proceed to another issue. (Like · 1)
• Suggested readings that comes after each story seem
random.

Discussion
RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY
‣ Only part of the group was actively involved in FB
‣ Users were experts
‣ Distinction between roles was vague
• Developers and users were easily mixed
• It might have affected the criticism
