Continuing Education – Spring/Summer 2016 1 Teen Scene - Spring / Summer 2016 YA 100A Sewing I: Ages 13-17 YA 301 Culinary Teens: Ages 13-17 Training on the basics of sewing is vital before you progress to constructing more complex garments or fashion design. Students will learn how to sew a running stitch, make a simple hem, use a sewing machine, choose and cut patterns while completing simple projects. Information: A $10.00 materials fee is included in the course price. This inclusive cooking class will prepare students to tackle very ambitious cooking projects. We’ll roast, bake, stir-fry, make yeast and quick breads, prepare party foods, and learn many other techniques to prepare healthy, delicious meals- all from scratch. Teen designers will learn how to drape garments, sew projects and showcase their designs at a fashion show on the last day of class. Graduates of the Babysitter Safety Training class or those who have completed a babysitting class and hold a current CPR card are eligible to practice childcare skills in the Pima for Kids Camp classroom and earn a certificate. Teens are introduced to the connections between design and social issues as they are challenged to use their creativity to come up with responsive designs solving issues such as pedestrian access, transit, health and environment in street design; density to accommodate newcomers; or an urban garden. Students will plan, build and present a physical or digital study model that represents how their design could promote a better city for all. It is for those who would like to learn archery basics including: stance and posture, set-up, aim, release, and follow through. Cinematography in iMovie is made easier for students to edit and achieve the exact look they were aiming for bringing their own story to life. Take a zombie apocalypse for example, what do you need to do before zombies, or earthquakes, or pandemics actually happen? While working in a creative, imaginative scenario, students learn real skills about planning, decision making, and emergency services when they build an emergency kit, learn how to triage and treat injuries, develop a communication strategy; all toward the goal of identifying the cause and cure of the zombie outbreak. Learn the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, create skins for characters, and import them into your favorite Minecraft® games. To access projects at home, students, must own a PC/ MAC version of Minecraft®. Tablet, phone, and game console version of Minecraft® are not compatible. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Bonita Ave 70207 M - F 7/5 - 7/8 •Full-day campers should bring a sack lunch, a few snacks and plenty of water each day. • Onsite coordinators pick up each full-day camper from the morning camp and escort them to a dining area. • The one hour lunchtime is monitored by the onsite coordinator. After eating, campers are allowed free time for activities, then they are escorted to their afternoon camp. • Lunchtime care is only provided for full-day campers registered for the Full-Day Camps (YO990) and campers enrolled in Elements of Babysitting 101 (YA607). YA 780 App Adventures Continue your quest to make the next viral app! Whether you want to move past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we are ready for you! Students will choose from a selection of different web-based (HTML5) mobile apps and explore more in-depth programming concepts. Student-created apps will be accessible on a Black Rocket site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Who works at Pima for Kids Camp? Community Campus, 401 N. Mornings (8 a.m. - noon) and afternoon (1 - 5 p.m.) camps are available everyday . Full-day camps are from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. with a supervised lunch from noon - 1 p.m. There are two age groups available in the youth category: 5 - 8 and 9 -12 years old. Teen Scene-Young Adult classes are typically offered for ages 13-17. •Pima for Kids instructors and site coordinators have completed the hiring process which includes review and approval by PCC Board of Governors and a current background check. 5 days $165 Do camps get cancelled? • • Although camp cancellation is not common, if enrollment is too small to cover expenses, a camp would be cancelled. In the event of a cancellation, Continuing Education staff have been highly successful in finding a camp session that will meet your needs. In the event a suitable replacement camp is not found, full refunds will be given. NOTE: Please confirm contact information is accurate when you register. Continuing Education – Spring/Summer 2016 5 Teen Scene - Spring / Summer 2016 What to wear and bring: •Multiple children in the same family being registered for full week camps pay $279 for the first child and $209 for subsequent children. •In order for the discount to be applied, call 520-206-6468 to register and pay. The College is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items. Where and how do I drop off my child? •Look for the directional sign outside the campus directing to the Pima for Kids Camps. •Each camper must be signed in and out daily by a parent/ guardian. • Sign in sheets are located in the camp classroom. •Information on the designated drop-off/pick-up locations will be sent to the parent/guardian in a confirmation letter following registration. Continuing Education Policies NOTE: Sign in should be 15 minutes before the designated camp start time. Refund Policy Where and how do I pick up my child? No refund will be considered unless the request is received at least seven calendar days prior to the start of the class. Refunds will be paid in full for classes that are cancelled. Cancelling any registration combined to earn a discount voids the discount. •Arrive on campus when your child’s camp is scheduled to end. •Meet your child at the camp classroom and sign the child out. NOTE: Unattended Pima for Kids minors are not allowed on PCC campuses. A $25 fee will be charged for every 15 minutes following the end of pick up time (12:30 p.m. for morning campers and 5:30 p.m. for evening campers). Cancellations Continuing Education is supported by participant fees. For this reason, it is necessary to establish minimum enrollment requirements for each class. Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel a class. In the event of cancellation, every effort is made to contact participants by phone and/or email 48 hours prior to the start date of the class.
