Welcome to another addition of the Rottweiler Review.
On the recent Anzac Day long weekend the club had a breed stand at the Channel 7 Animal Expo at the
Adelaide show grounds; which by accounts was a very successful weekend for our breed. There were many
wonderful comments from the general public on how wonderful our dogs were and how well behaved they were.
There were comments from people “saying they thought Rottweilers were aggressive but these are just so
friendly”, which is so good for our breed and I have to say that ALL dogs were exceptionally well behaved and
definitely did the breed and the club proud.
A big thankyou from me to all the dogs and their owners that spent time on the stand.
We hope that we will have the stand again next year and hope to get some more volunteers and their wellbehaved dogs.
In March the club re-introduced Obedience training now held at Kilburn once a month. Our first night went off
without a hitch (except for some unwanted pesky flying bugs!) and our second night in April saw a few new faces
attend. The obedience classes are aimed at non-trialling dogs and for those who want to gain some obedience
with their dogs and socialisation. We also include a Rally class for those wanting to learn Rally O and polish up
their moves. We hope as the word gets out that the numbers will grow and we will be able to increase the
number of nights we have. Details of Obedience will be on our Facebook page including dates and training
cancellations (if required).
Preparations for the June show are well under way and in just 7 short weeks the show will be upon us. The
format for this show has been slightly altered with change of venue and our schedule to accommodate our judge,
we hope that you will support the format and the show and have a successful weekend. Safe travels to all those
coming from interstate to our show.
After a couple of changes in judges for our October show we can confirm that as per our last edition we will be
holding 2 shows again this year and now confirm that our Saturday Judge will be Mrs Yvonne Van Der Horst
(NT) and our Sunday Judge will be Mrs Louise Russell (Vic). Both judges have been in the breed for many years
and come with loads of breed experience being both breeders, exhibitors and judges. We look forward to
Yvonne & Louise’s judging appointments with our club.
The Rottweiler club of SA continues to support the amazing efforts of Guardian Angel Animal Rescue (GAAR).
RCSA recently invited GAAR to bring some Rottweilers on to our Animal Expo stand to help promote the Rescue
Rotts, however by the time the weekend came, all Rotts available for adoption had all been homed which meant
they were unable to bring any dogs along… great news I’d say! However we still did have a donation tin and
hopefully a few extra dollars donated will go a long way to helping Rotts in need. GAAR do not only help the
Rottweiler in need here in SA but go a long way in rescuing dogs interstate. Recently in one night the team from
GAAR drove to Victoria to rescue not one but 2 Rottweilers in need and then drove back to Adelaide early the
next morning. They also saved the amazing Angus from Qld who is the young boy who was raised on a chain
and has severe Rickets. Angus has had many surgeries to help this debilitating condition and we hope that the
Rottweiler fraternity will dig deep at our upcoming June show and donate a few dollars to help lighten the load for
GAAR.
Most Doggy sporting activities have recommenced over the last few months, so to all those out showing, training
and trialling, best of luck and remember win, lose, pass or fail you still have to best dog that you get to take home
at the end of the day to share your home and heart.

Try these top five indoor activities to keep you and your dog active,
writes Kylie Baracz.
Hide and seek
If you haven’t tried this yet, you really need to. This game can provide hours of fun for you and
your pet. First, find a good hiding place away from your dog’s view. Once you are settled, call
out your dog’s name. You’ll be surprised how quickly they find you! Once they’ve come to you,
give them a pat or a treat and start all over again.
Treat hunt
This game is great for those dogs that are food-oriented. Grab a handful of your dog’s
favourite treats (make sure they are small) and hide them all over the house/specific room.
Make sure your dog is in another room so he doesn’t know where they are hidden. Take note
where you have hidden each treat, just in case your dog needs a little help. Then let your dog
out of the room and say “Find” and point to one of the spots where there is a treat. Your dog
will then go around the room/house sniffing out all the treats. Make sure to give him a good
pat and maybe an extra treat at the end of the game.
New tricks
Teaching your dog a new skill can take some time,
but it’s a great way to tire him out. If you have a
puppy, a rainy day can be a good time to teach the
basics — sit, stay and come. Other tricks to teach
include roll over, play dead and shake paw.
Fetch
It might be too wet to play fetch outside, but you can still adapt the game for indoor fun. First,
find an area that is free from breakable objects, such as a corridor or hallway. Choose a toy or
soft ball and either roll or gently throw the object away from your dog. Once your dog
retrieves the item, say “Drop” and reward your dog with a pat or a treat. Repeat as many times
as you like.
Tug of war
This is an easy game to play as most dogs know what to do when you pick up a tug toy or rope.
As with Fetch, you will need to find a space with no breakable objects. Pick up a tug toy or
rope and hold one end. With the other end, call your dog and slightly shake the object. When
your dog grabs the other end, pull at your end and enjoy the tug of war fun! Make sure your
dog knows the “release” command so neither of you gets hurt.

Bacon and Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe
Makes 30 cookies
Ingredients:
2 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
3 strips bacon
½ cup pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
¼ cup broth or water
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
2. Fry bacon to desired crispiness. Remove from frying pan and place in between 2 paper towels.
Dab off excess grease and allow bacon to cool.
3. In large bowl, add flours, pumpkin puree, peanut butter and turmeric.
4. When bacon as cooled, crumble into small pieces and add to the mix in the bowl. Mix until all
ingredients until combined. Add broth or water as needed.
5. On a floured surface, roll dough to ¼ inch thickness and cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
Place on cookie sheets.
6. Place in oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
7. Remove from oven and place on cooling racks for 4-5 hours to harden.

Fruit And Vegetable Treats For Your Rottweiler
Are you wondering how you can train your dog with treats yet still keep him lean? Perhaps you are wondering what
healthy food is safe for your Rottweiler? This breed of dog certainly loves treats. Giving your dog fruits and vegetables
on occasion can be great for your dog. But we must be very cautious feeding them things other than dog food. Read
on for some fresh food guidance! There are many foods that are not safe to feed to your dog, but there are several
things that are perfectly fine for them to snack on.
Safe Vegetables - Here is a list of vegetables that are safe for giving to your Rottweiler as treats. I also included a
description of the benefits and any other information you may need about preparing the food for safe consumption.
Always remember to wash off raw vegetables before giving to your dog because lots of raw vegetables may have
dangerous pesticides on them.
Carrots - Carrots are a great treat for your dog. They contain beta carotene, are high in fiber,
and rich in vitamins A, C, and K. That means they are great for the eyes and skin. They are also
rich in antioxidants, which can help prevent cancer. They are great for your dogs teeth, and
they are known for being delicious! Many dog foods actually have carrots listed right in the
ingredients.
Sweet Potatoes - Sweet potatoes are commonly seen in dog treats and listed in dog foods. They are used as a starch
substitute for dogs with allergies. They are a great source of vitamins, including vitamins A, C, B5, and B6. Sweet
potatoes are a great treat for your Rottweiler with a sensitive stomach, and are gentle on the digestive system.
Peas - Peas are another great treat for your Rottweiler. There are so many nutrients packed into these tiny veggies,
it’s unreal! The vitamins contained in these amazingly small treats are vast, they are great fed raw or cooked.
Asparagus - Asparagus is a great treat for your dog. They contain lots of vitamins and minerals such as A, C, K, B1, B2,
folate, copper, and iron.
Pumpkin - This can be a great treat for you dog, especially if they happen to have diarrhea, constipation, or simply a
sensitive stomach. Pumpkin contains lots of fiber that absorbs water and helps ease stomach upset. It also contains
vitamin A and has lots of antioxidants.
Green Beans - Green beans are high in vitamins such as A, K, and C, and also contain manganese. This treat is great
for a dog who is overweight because you can replace some of their food with green beans which will nourish them,
but not load them up with calories.
Fruits
Rottweilers also like fruit! There are a number of safe fruits you can give to your dog for treats that are great for them
and taste delicious!
Cranberries - Besides being high in antioxidants and minerals, and rich in vitamins A, C, B1, and B2, cranberries can
also greatly improve your dog’s urinary tract health. They can also help prevent and control urinary tract infections by
lowering the pH of your dog’s urine, therefore making it more acidic. They can be fed to them raw, frozen, or cooked.
They are also great for you as well!
Blueberries - Blueberries are one of the richest fruits in antioxidants. They can also reduce tear stains on
your Rottweiler’s face! When it comes to overall health, blueberries are very similar to cranberries. They can be fed to
your dog raw or frozen.
Bananas - Bananas are a great energy source for your Rottweiler. They are full of natural sugars that are easy to
metabolise and convert into energy. They are loaded with essential amino acids, potassium, electrolytes, minerals,
vitamins C, and B6. They can also aid in improving heart function and maintaining normal blood pressure.
Apples - Apples are a great source of vitamins A and C. They also are rich in antioxidants. Apples
also contain pectin, which is a fiber that creates short-chain fatty acids which help get rid of
toxins in the intestinal tract, strengthens intestinal muscles, and ward off dangerous bacteria.
Cantaloupe - Cantaloupe is an excellent source of nutrients. They contain vitamins A, C, B6, and
beta carotene which is great for the ocular health of your dog. Cantaloupe is generally an easily
digested and hypoallergenic fruit, so it is great to feed to your Rottweiler if they have food allergies or a sensitive
stomach. Cantaloupe can also aid a dehydrated dog. Toss them some as a treat if they look like they may be
dehydrated. Make sure you do not feed them the skin, just the fruit.
Fruits and Vegetables to Avoid - There are some fruits and vegetables we must never feed to a Rottweiler. Never feed
your dog grapes, raisins, onions, or garlic. They have all been classified as
unsafe for doggy consumption. Stick to the fruits and vegetables on this list,
and if you do not know if it is safe, do not feed it to them, the results can
actually be fatal! Many of these foods can be frozen to help teething
puppies and utilized as general treats to keep your dog active and fit

Judge Biography
Josef Mravik
Born in 1967, in Czech Republic Josef speaks Russian, German,
English, Slovak, Yugoslavian.
Josef was the youngest judge ever for the FCI. He became
working Judge in 1986 and show judge in 1989. He is qualified
to judge approx. 100 breeds: Kourung, water, Search and
Avalanche Rescue.
Josef has judged trials and dogs shows all around the world.
USA, Australia, England, South Africa, Germany, Brazil,
Portugal, Costa Rica, Italy, Korea, Hungary, Yugoslavia,
Poland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Mexico, Slovenia, White
Russia, Russia and Many More…!
In 1996 and 1997 he won the Austrian Bundessiger with his
male and female. His make took V1 at the most prestige RTW
show in the world in German Klubsieger 1999 at Sieger class. In 2009 he was third at Slovak
German Shepherd National championship.
He has trained 15 dogs from nothing to SVV2, tow RTW for SVV3 and IP03, 20 dogs to BST and two
rescue and avalanche rescue dogs. 1984 National Youth Champion in rescue dog. 1987 – 1989
Helper for National Schutzhund competition one of 6 certified helpers for Korung at this time. His
IP03 RTW male competed to represent Czechoslovakia in world championships for RTW in Italy in
1991.
In 1977 – 1985 Josef won 27 times, the Slovak and Czech championship in swimming.

A natural approach to pet dental health
Dental disease is one of the most common reasons that your dog or cat may require costly surgical
and medical treatment. Recent statistics in Australia have shown that 60 percent of pets over the
age of three have some degree of dental disease that will require costly veterinary attention – and
generally under general anaesthetic. The increased popularity of carbohydrate-rich processed pet
foods, in place of a balanced fresh meat diet supplemented with bones, can result in the
accumulation of significant levels of plaque on the surface of our pets’ teeth, which in turn calcifies
to become tartar.
The tartar contains literally billions of bacterial colonies that invade the gums causing painful
gingivitis, and will ultimately erode the tooth root attachment, resulting in damage and tooth loss.
Rotten teeth and gums are a modern disease caused by inappropriate diets, and the flow-on effects
include pain, infection, immune suppression, kidney, liver and heart disease, just to name a few.
So what can you do to help reduce the risk of dental disease in your dog or cat?
Here are my three top tips for a natural approach to dental health that can maintain your pet’s
teeth for a lifetime and potentially avoid many expensive dental bills.
1. Feed a balanced fresh meat diet
Many pet owners mistakenly believe that feeding dry food actually prevents dental disease, but the
truth is quite the opposite. Are your teeth clean after eating a biscuit! A natural, raw food diet based
on fresh meat and raw bones, will naturally maintain your pets’ teeth and gums by creating correctly
balanced saliva and an oral environment that naturally cleans and helps to prevent plaque
formation.
2. Bones are nature’s toothbrush Raw bones play an integral role in dental hygiene for dogs and
cats.
The process of macerating the meat and bones actually massages the animal’s teeth and gums to
clean away any food residues or tartar development. This prevents plaque formation, bad breath,
dental cavities, gingivitis, and expensive veterinary teeth scaling and extractions. A good supply of
calcium and other nutrients during the early growth stages of puppies and kittens will also help to
ensure strong healthy teeth. Feeding a raw food diet ensures natural normal acidity levels in the gut
that naturally breaks down bones. A balanced fresh meat diet creates the right acidity levels in the
gut to help pets digest bones, where many on-the-shelf products don’t.
3. Check your pet’s mouth on a regular basis
Gently lift the flaps of your dog or cat’s gums and have a quick look at the teeth you can see there –
pay attention to the colour of the gums, any developing ‘lumps’, signs of broken/chipped teeth and
areas that seem/look painful. Also ask your vet to perform an oral exam during regular checkups so
they can alert you to any existing or potential problems.

What are probiotics:
Probiotics can be simply described as “good bacteria” that live in all animals (and humans) intestines.
Most of us would be surprised to know that for every cell in our body, we have about 10 bacterial cells
living in our gut (which in humans makes about 10 trillion bacteria). These bacteria form an integral
part of our bodies, and have a wide range of functions – they compete with bad bacteria and maintain
gut health, they regulate and stimulate the immune system, aid digestion, break down toxins and
allergens, regulate cholesterol uptake, produce essential vitamins, and control inflammation.
Probiotics populate the gut from the moment of birth, and continue to develop during lactation and
early development. Typically most animals will form a stable population of probiotics by the time they
are weaned. This early development of balanced probiotics is essential for normal immune system
development, and there is a lot of evidence that now shows that the development of allergies and
asthma in both people and animals can be linked to poor probiotic balance in early development.
Under normal circumstances, these resident gut bacteria cause neither pathogenesis (disease) nor
inflammation in the host, but instead contribute to health maintenance, by forming a barrier layer
against colonization by pathogens (bad bacteria or other intestinal microbes) and by aiding in nutrient
digestion and assimilation. The most important feature of a good probiotic is that it causes no disease,
and that it is able to survive the passage through the stomach (in the strong acid environment) and
colonise the small, and primarily large intestine.
The most common forms of probiotic are the lactic acid bacteria (eg lactobacillus) , but there are many
strains and types, including bacteria, protozoa and yeasts.
How do probiotics affect the immune system:
Probiotics are able to both stimulate and regulate or modulate the immune system, at both a local
level (at the gut surface), and remotely in the body.
At a local level, normal contact between probiotic bacteria and gut epithelial cells creates a
homeostatic effect, and regulates normal healthy gut function. If imbalance or depletion of these
probiotics occur (called intestinal dysbiosis), removal of these routine signals at the gut epithelial
surface can lead to a breakdown in these regulatory immune mechanisms and consequently promote
aggressive and uncontrolled inflammatory responses – such as is the case in Irritable or Inflammatory
bowel disease (or chronic disease like Chrohn’s disease in humans).
On a wider scale, intestinal probiotics can result in stimulatory messages to the gut lymphoid tissue
(known as GALT or Peyer’s Patches), which can then further translate into systemic messages sent out
via the blood and lymphatics that can affect T cells and antibody production and overall stimulation
and enhancement of immune responses. It has been clinically shown that response to vaccination is
much more profound, and long lasting, in animals which have healthy levels of probiotics.
In non-disease states, such as in allergies and chronic disease, probiotics have been shown to be able
to down-regulate the immune system, reducing the production of inflammatory cytokines, and
limiting IgE and histamine release in allergies. There is also some recent evidence that probiotics may
have some anti-tumor activity and cancer protective properties.
At the level of the gut, probiotics are also able to enzymatically hydrolyse potential toxins, but more
importantly, allergens (reactive substances involved in allergy), thus limiting exposure and uptake into
the body. Correcting intestinal dysbiosis also improves epithelial barrier function, thus repelling many
allergens from absorption into the body.
There is gathering clinical evidence that certain probiotic strains can be used effectively in neonatal
and paediatric care to provide the necessary bacterial signals which, in early life, enable the immune
system to develop appropriately and to avoid allergic sensitization. Ensuring that puppies and kittens
have correct probiotic populations (either by exposure to appropriate raw food diets, or by probiotic
supplementation) may play a critical role going forward in the fight against allergic skin disease.

Minimum Breeding Age for Rottweilers (Sire and Dam) and Litters resulting from the mating of
Rottweilers where the Sire is under the age of 18 months and/or the Dam is under the age of 22 months
Effective 1 February 2017 litters resulting from the mating of Rottweilers where the Sire is under the age of 18
months and/or the Dam is under the age of 22 months at the time of mating, are eligible to be registered on the
Limited Register only and flagged ‘NOT TO BE UPGRADED’.
Rationale: As per the ANKC National Code of Ethics of Responsible Dog Ownership, members shall breed
primarily for the purpose of improving the quality and / or working ability of the breed in accordance with the
breed standard, and not specifically for the pet or commercial market.
The Rottweiler being a ‘large’ breed of dog takes longer to reach maturity thereby being able to assess its
suitability for improving the quality and / or working ability of the breed needs to be taken into consideration.
It is strongly recommended that a Rottweiler male is not bred from until he has reached the minimum age of 18
months at time of mating, and that a Rottweiler Bitch is not bred from until she has reached the minimum age
of 22 months at time of mating.
Limiting any resulting litters from a mating where the sire is under the age of 18 months and/or the dam is
under the age of 22 months is to prevent this from occurring in the first instance.

Effective 1 February 2017 any dog born a Natural Bobtail will be eligible to be registered on the Limited
Register only and flagged ‘NOT TO BE UPGRADED’.
Rationale: The description for a Natural Bobtail Rottweiler is not found within our adopted standard (FCI
Standard No: 147 dated 19/06/2000), which is the standard of the Country of Origin (Germany). The Allgemein
Deutscher Rottweiler Klub (ADRK) views that the bobtailed dog is seen as deformed, meaning that it should
not be shown and believe that due to the fact that the short tail is mostly hereditary, they should not be bred
with (within Germany they would not pass the breed suitability test).
As per the ANKC National Code of Ethics of Responsible Dog Ownership, members shall constantly strive to
improve their knowledge of their chosen breed, and their knowledge of the requirements for the care, welfare
and betterment of dogs. A member shall also breed primarily for the purpose of improving the quality and / or
working ability of the breed in accordance with the breed standard, and not specifically for the pet or
commercial market. Individuals that continuously and purposely breed for undesirable traits are not breeding
to the standard or to improve the breed, instead these individuals are practicing unethical breeding.

It was noted from RCSA that whilst the HD and ED motions were not passed by RCSA members – table discussion on
the night has led them to believe that something does need to be done. RCSA would like to see work to continue on
this matter to see if a consensus cannot be met as an Association, that can be put forward.
A brief discussion was held and it was agreed that the National Secretary should go back to the ANKC Canine Health
and Wellbeing Committee to seek further feedback on what could be acceptable to both parties.
As each Member Club also has their own rulings on allowable cut-off scores it was requested that all Clubs would email
this information to the National Secretary as it was agreed that all Clubs should be on the same page.
A statement was requested to be sent to both the ADRK and the IFR regarding the stance the Australian Rottweiler
fraternity has taken on both the Breeding Age and Natural Bobtail motions. These statements were also requested to
be placed on the National Website and any other suitable dog forum ie. Dogzonline.

David McKeown presented to the meeting a Draft of the Criteria and Procedure for Aspiring Breed Surveyors. After
lengthy discussion it was agreed that the Draft Procedure as presented be accepted. David McKeown to email

12.2 National Breed Councils Meeting
Member Clubs were reminded that the next National Breed Councils meeting was scheduled for 2 July 2016 and

12.3 Electronic Banking
Request was sought from Member Clubs for authority to update the bank requirements to allow for electronic
banking. Approval for banking requirements requested was for two of the authorised signatories to operate jointly on
the account. Those authorised to operate on the account are as follows: Brooke Turner – Treasurer, Neville Bennett
– President and Denise Bennett – Secretary
12.4 Standing Motions
The Standing Motions as updated 12 July 2015 were ratified.
12.5 Specialty Shows
John Baird raised the question of cutting back on the number of Specialty shows and was interested in hearing
feedback from other Member Clubs. Many Member Clubs expressed concern over cutting back on their Specialty
shows due to State Canine Council requirements and possibility of losing dates altogether.
12.6 FCI Press Release
A request was made for the National to publicise / circulate the latest statement from the FCI on Docked Dogs
released on 7 March 2016.
12.7 Breed Surveys / National Database
The Breed Survey to be held in conjunction with the National was discussed in particular the difficulty experienced in
obtaining feedback concerning eligibility of dogs to enter. This discussion also led onto the National Database and
concern as to whether or not the way things are currently handled is not outdated / archaic. Member Clubs are of
the opinion that the Database should be accessible and user friendly. Further investigation to be done on alternative
software programs and brought back for further discussion.

NRCA PRESIDENT’S REPORT
2015-16
2016 NRCA Presidents Report
Good morning all
I would firstly like to thank those that voted myself into the position last year, so 12 months on and I
get to attend my first meeting as President.
Let me say it hasn't been what I expected and rarely anything is, it has been a big learning curve for
myself and also our new interim secretary, this being said the committee has been a bit disjointed to
say the least at times during the year yet a lot has been worked on.
David McKweon has done a lot of hard work behind the scenes with others putting together the first
stage of the Breed Surveyors training plan, I have been involved and have read through where
David has got up to and I believe it is in good hands and we can go forward with this.
Denise Bennett our Interim secretary for the past 12 months, whilst we haven't always seen eye to
eye Denise has put a lot of time and effort into the position and has had quite a few discussions with
the ANKC regarding our breed standard and constitution amongst other items. Denise's constant
hard work has managed to get a few wins with the ANKC which is difficult at the best of times.
I would also like to thank Samantha Bradley who couldn't attend this meeting due to new puppies,
also Brooke Turner for her efforts as our Treasurer. Without the committee and the member clubs
there would be no NRCA so thank you to everyone for your efforts during the year and into the
future for the wonderful breed we all love.
Moving forward I am going to take it upon myself to work more closely with our newly elected
committee and try and achieve a tighter working group.
The NRCA like everything in the world is coming under closer scrutiny and once upon a time what
was excepted is now questioned and we have found out that a lot of the old rules leave it open to
interpretation and what was once considered common sense is now constantly question, so we
have a lot of work to do to clean up things such as our breed survey I believe this can be a chives
reasonably quickly with a small dedicated sub committee ensuring the integrity of the breed survey
into the future.
I would like to thank Dr Rawlinson for all his years of reading Rottweiler hip & elbow scores in
assisting the NRCA.
Lastly thank you to all the clubs that drive the NRCA and this is important as without the clubs
driving us into the the future there is no NRCA, so keep pushing with new improved motions and the
such.

NRCA SECRETARY’S REPORT 2015/16
NRCA Executive & Delegates
Since taking on the role of Interim Secretary twelve months ago to say my life has been consumed
by all things National would be an understatement. One could simply not envisage how
administratively busy the role of National Secretary is, however no matter how challenging I have
given this role 100% of my effort and professionalism. With this knowledge and experience I must
take time to thank all those who have been in this position before me.
When taking on this role I set some goals, namely: getting the National Constitution and Code of
Ethics which was submitted to the ANKC back in 2014 approved; having the ANKC recognise our
standard of choice without any alterations; and last but not least enabling the Rottweiler fraternity to
have a say with the ANKC about the NBT which does not appear in our standard.
Have these goals been achieved? Not without trying but nothing moves quickly with the ANKC
although we are very close to finalising at least two of the three. A long overdue meeting of the
National Breed Councils was finally held in June last year of which I attended and managed to
cement an open line of communication with not only the ANKC but other Breed Councils. It was from
this meeting that it was made very clear that the ANKC were not going to budge on removing the
docked tail description from our chosen standard. Maybe it is now time that we approach the FCI to
take on the ANKC for modifying their standard? Note: There are also other Breed Councils who
believe we are trying to pass by ‘stealth’ that docked dogs can no longer be shown in this country.
It is obvious that there are many members who are unaware of what is in the NRCA Standing
Motions, especially members who hold an Executive position on their Clubs committee. With this in
mind these have now been uploaded to the National Website along with other updates, so hopefully
this will now be a “go to” site for members requiring information. Ignorance is no excuse, as a
member of any club you should know not only your clubs standing motions but the National standing
motions.

twelve months.

Breed Recorder Report 2016
Firstly I would like to thank all those individuals who voted for me to continue in this position for another 2 years. I wish
to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to vote and for your continued support.
Breed Survey – There have only been a few Breed Surveys conducted in the last 12 months and this is disappointing for
State Club members as some of the Clubs have not contracted a Judge that can conduct a BS. By not contracting a
Judge to hold a Breed Survey you are effectively restricting your members from obtaining a NRCA Title for their dogs.
This action is disappointing as Club members are requiring to travel to obtain a BS pass or are being severely restricted
to accessible Breed Surveys.
On the subject of the Breed Survey I recommend a levy for each Breed Survey entry of $5 per dog made payable to the
NRCA as per the Breed Survey Program and this to be effective from April 2016;
6. NRC(A) ADMINISTRATION
6.3 Shall recommend to the NRC(A) Executive and member clubs a levy that is to be applied to each entrant of the Breed Survey.
The proposed levy is to adequately cover the administration costs and printing of the year book that will be incurred.
NRCA Database - The reader who reads the most HD and ED xrays is Rawlinson, followed by Lavelle, then Richardson.
The HD ED results are recorded but we do not see all of the Eye and Mouth certificates for these dogs, so the records
remain incomplete. This has again been highlighted by having to chase up E & M Certs for this coming Breed Survey. I
am not sure how this can be rectified other than to remind the owners of the dogs that the complete set of paperwork
needs to be forwarded to the NRCA for inclusion into the database.
Dr Rawlinson is retiring from reading at the month’s end and we will no longer have that third reader to choose from. At
this stage he is unable to suggest a suitable replacement and this means that the NRCA scheme now has one less
reader. This situation needs to be dealt with urgently by the State Breed Clubs as to how they would like the NRCA to
proceed in NRCA HD ED, Eye and Mouth Scheme for choice for readers and or would they like the NRCA to search for
a third reader.
Interesting to note that one club refuses to follow motion #22 of the NRCA standing motions for procedure of the
paperwork.
Overall the scores coming back for the dogs are very good, but is this only because the good scores are submitted? We
have also had a number of rescores done and the variations between the first reading and the second reading are of a
concern. I am not sure how that can be but can only put it down to the individual and how they read the plates. This
goes against the fact that these scores are supposed to be based on measurements and not interpretation.
There will be no NRCA Database CD produced for sale this year because last year we produced 50 for sale, of which 6
were given to the State Breed Clubs and we still have 22 left. If an individual wants a copy of the database they will be
for sale and sent electronically to your address for $25. All Clubs will have a copy sent to them after end of April.
The database is still not complete as many State Breed Clubs have not forwarded their databases for inclusion. I will
follow this up again soon and hope that the Clubs will be able to supply their databases.
Unfortunately the set goals for last year have NOT all been achieved.
What has been achieved is the formulation of the Breed Surveyors Training Program which we have to thank David
McKeown for as he has driven it and got it to the level it is now. Thank you! Also thank you to all that have contributed
towards it. The program will be ready soon for the Clubs to review and hopefully approve.
The Breed Survey format is still to be addressed in full detail and that will need to be done this year to tighten it all up.

A Breed Survey Booklet has not been collated as we do not have the majority of the Breed Survey Certificates. Again I
ask that this be advertised so that individuals can send through a clear scanned PDF copy for inclusion in this booklet.
I would like to note that the communication between the NRCA Secretary and I has been somewhat selective. I would
hope that the now elected Secretary will keep on open line of communication and transparency and that I would be
included in all correspondence as a matter of courtesy as has been done by previous NRCA Secretaries.
I would also like it noted that I made a number of requests for a list of all correspondence in and out that was continually
refused. The list of correspondence in and out that was sent to the Clubs, which is how I received that information as an
individual Club member and not via the NRCA Secretary has a number of incorrect dates listed which has been noted.
I would hope that the NRCA Executive and I can work together in a professional manner, with openness and full and
clear communication and with obvious transparency and not in the manner that we have been working under for the
past 7 months or so.
I look forward to openness, transparency, productivity and progression.
I look forward to the next term as Breed Recorder.

MEMBERSHIP RATES

A membership rate shall be offered to first time members who join the RCSA Inc after the Thirty First (31) July. This
rate shall be 50% of the full year membership.

Children under 17 years of age shall be eligible for membership as junior members. A junior
member shall not be entitled to vote at any meeting of the Club.
The Committee of the Club may confer honorary membership on any person considered worthy
thereof for a period not exceeding one year. An honorary member shall have all the rights and
privileges of an ordinary member including the right to vote at the meeting of the Club.
The Club may by special resolution passed at an Annual General Meeting or Special Meeting of the
Club appoint any person as a Life Member of the Club in recognition of services rendered to the
Club consistent with and directed to attaining or furthering the objects for which the Club was
established and who otherwise meets any criteria for life membership established by the Club in its
rules. A life member shall have all the rights and privileges of an ordinary member including the
right to vote at meetings of the Club.
Family Membership being 2 Adults and 2 Children under 16 years.
Associate membership is available for training only and those members shall not be entitled to vote
at any meeting of the Club, nor have any special privileges. However Associate members will
receive a club magazine.
Membership is not transferable.

MEMBERSHIP
1. Application for membership of the Club shall be in writing on the Clubs prescribed form.
2. Application for membership of the Club must be accompanied with the payment of the Annual subscription.

Applications for membership are accepted subject to the approval of the Committee.
4.
The Committee may reject any application for membership or junior membership without assigning a reason for so
doing.
5.
On election by the Committee and payment of the Annual subscription, a member shall exercise the privileges of a
membership, subject to the constitution, from the date of such election until the last business day of the current
financial year.
6.
Every person who is a financial member of the Cub (other than a junior member) Ninety (90) days prior to the date
of a Special Meeting shall be entitled to vote at that meeting.
7.
A Junior member may hold office in any junior section of the Club as may be authorised by the Committee from time
to time.
8.
Should a member charged in accordance with Clause 6(a) and 6(b) of the Constitution the following action shall be
taken:-

(a)
He shall be summoned to appear before the Committee of the Club to answer the charge.
(b)
Twenty One (21) days notice by registered post of the charge, shall be sent to the member, and he shall be
entitled to appear before the Committee for the purpose of making a statement, and he may call witnesses
and/or produce evidence in his defence. If the person charged is a member of the Committee of the Club, he
shall not be entitled to vote. Voting shall be by secret ballot and decided by simple majority.
If, after due inquiry, he be found guilty, he shall be reprimanded or disqualified or suspended from the Club, subject to
appeal to the South Australian Canine Association.
10.
If any person refuses, or fails to appear before the Committee to answer a charge, he may be suspended and denied
all privileges of the club.
11.
Any person on ceasing to be a member shall forthwith return all property belonging to the Club including membership
badge etc., to the Honorary Secretary.
12.
The Committee may confer Honorary Membership to any person for a period not exceeding Twelve (12) months.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP: No person shall be recommended to Life Membership unless:
He shall have been a member of the club for at least Fifteen (15) consecutive years. Such Life Members when approved by
the Annual General Meeting shall be entitled to all the rights and privileges of a member. Life Members shall like any member
pay for any Publication, Scheme or Levy which is compulsory and or mandatory to being a member of the Club. To be
eligible for life membership a member must have made a valid contribution to the club and or the breed as deemed
reasonable by the members.
PATRON
The Annual General Meeting shall have the option of appointing one or more Patrons in accordance with the following
conditions:

Nominations for the position of Patron shall be forwarded to the Secretary in writing not later than two
calendar month before the Annual General Meeting

The appointment of a Patron shall not be for a set period of time, but shall be an ongoing appointment
3
The appointment of a Patron shall be approved by not less than three quarters of the members of the Club
present at such an Annual General Meeting
4
The Annual General Meeting may terminate the appointment of a Patron by not less than three quarters of the
members of the Club present at such an Annual General Meeting voting in favour of such a termination
5
The appointment of the Patron shall be subject to the acceptance of the position in writing, forwarded to the
Secretary by the nominated person
6
The committee shall from time to time invite the Patron to attend Club Functions, make presentations, and
make donations of prizes and/or sponsorship for the use of the Committee in achieving the objects of the Club

FIRST COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE FINANCIAL YEAR
At the first Committee Meeting of each term of office, the Secretary shall ensure that each Committee Member has
available to them
1 An up to date copy of the Constitution and Rules
2 A copy of the minutes of the last Annual General Meeting
3 Duty guidelines to be provided by the Secretary for all nominated positions and any other nominated officers
mentioned in the Rules, and that these duty statements be reviewed at this time and nominated persons must be
current committee members.

THE COMMITTEE
The management of the Club shall be vested in a Committee,
1. BEARERS: which shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, and
Five (5) ordinary Committee members and such Committee shall have such powers as herein provided or otherwise
authorised by the Club and must be members of the South Australian Canine Association.
The Patron of the Club shall be elected at an Annual General Meeting and shall remain in office after the election during
the pleasure of members or until such times as he resigns.
1. A member of the Committee ceases to be a member of the Committee if he ceases to be a member of the Club or
resign.
2. The Committee shall have power to do all acts, matters and/or things for the carrying out of the objects of the Club or
any of them. The Committee may make regulations not inconsistent with the provisions of this
Constitution and Rules, prescribing all matters which it is necessary or convenient to prescribe in order to carry into
effect the provisions thereof. All such regulations shall be submitted to the South Australian Canine Association for
perusal.
3. The Committee shall have power to manage the affairs and undertakings of the club in accordance with the
constitution and Rules.
4. There shall be a public Officer of the Club, who shall be appointed and may be removed by the Committee. Unless
otherwise determined the Honorary Secretary for the time being, if eligible, shall be the Public Officer, and the Public
Officer may hold any other office in the Club, except that of Auditor. In accordance with the provisions of the
Associations Incorporation Act 1985 as amended, if the Public Officer ceases to be a resident of South Australia or
becomes bankrupt or is sentenced to a term of imprisonment for the commission of a felony or misdemeanour he shall
thereupon cease to be Public Officer. The duties of the Public Officer shall be to comply with the Provision of and to
exercise the powers conferred upon him by the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 as amended, or any amendment or
re-enactment thereof.
5. Voting at Committee meetings shall be by show of hands unless any member present requires a ballot.
6. Any person who ceases to be a member of the Club either by resignation or otherwise shall have no claim upon or be
entitled to participate in any of the effect or property belonging to the Club.
POINTSCORE RECORDER
1.
The Committee will appoint a member to act as Pointscore Recorder. The duties of the Recorder shall include:

Recording placing’s at Pointscore Shows and calculating a running total
b.
Publishing and providing information and results for the Club magazine and Trophy Officer.

After receiving the SACA Show Schedule for the following year and the Committee nominates shows as
pointscore shows, then the Pointscore Recorder shall before the next Committee Meeting contact all
host clubs for information on the proposed judges for presentation to Committee to confirm show
choice.
Shall inform in writing the nominated Clubs that its show has been chosen as a pointscore show
Knowing the whereabouts of all perpetual trophies at all times.
BREED INFORMATION OFFICER
The Committee may appoint a Breed Information Officer who shall:
1 Supply members of the public with the “Breed Information Guidelines” booklet
2 As directed by the Committee, place regular adverts in local papers to increase public awareness of the Breed
Information Service
3 Answer general questions and enquiries about the breed
4 Act in an independent manner by not answering specific questions, or making recommendations concerning
individual breeders, stud dogs, brood bitches or litters, but will refer enquiries to the people involved
MEMBERSHIP OFFICER
The Committee may appoint a Membership Officer who will have the responsibilities of:
1 Keeping of membership records
2 Keeping in touch with past members
3 Provide membership pack to new members
4 Provide list of new members for approval at committee meetings.
5 Providing the Committee with a list of lapsed memberships at the next Committee Meeting following the three
month renewal period which begins on the date of the Annual General Meeting
SHOW MANAGEMENT

Once a date has been set for a Club show, the Committee shall act and address the following points, before any
further decisions are made.
(a)
Appointment of Show Manager who shall be:
- Listed in the schedule as Show Manager as per SACA requirements
- The person who on the day has legal control in terms of our Club Constitution and Rules, and SACA
Constitution and Rules
- Any person considered appropriate to the appointment with the necessary skills and knowledge, and
may be from within or from outside the bounds of the Committee and Club
- Responsible for the efficient running and management of the show on the day, with regard to program
management, time management, management of exhibitors and exhibits, all announcements via public
address or similar to ensure that the above are achieved
(b)
Appointment of Show Secretary who shall be:
- Responsible to the Committee for the processing of all entries and the keeping of all records relating
to the show as required by SACA regulations and as instructed by the Committee
- Responsible for supplying all monies and records as required to the Treasurer
- Responsible for supplying to the compilers of the catalogue, all records as required
(c)
Appointment of one or more persons who as representatives of the Club will have personal contact
with the judge at the time of the show.
Discussion and decision regarding the exclusion of any persons from exhibiting under the appointed judge, and from
associating with any dogs in the assembly are within view of the show ring. All Committee members will be obligated to
give full and frank disclosure of any personal acquaintance, dealings, or contact with the judge, or any possible or intended
acquaintance, dealings, or contact either in the future or during the preceding twelve months, on any personal or dog
related matters.

TROPHY OFFICER
The Committee may appoint a Trophy Officer who shall be responsible for all club trophies:

Knowing the whereabouts at all times of club trophies.
Organise the return and cleaning of trophies no less than 28 days before presentation
Report to Committee the condition of the trophies, in addition to the cost of maintenance, repair, and
replacement if required.
Be responsible for the engraving of all trophies and purchase of the Point Score rosettes.
Be responsible for the collating and ordering of all ribbons and sashes required for Obedience, Championship
Show, Open Show and Parade and end of year presentations.
OBEDIENCE LIAISON OFFICER
The Committee may appoint a Breed Information Officer who shall:

Be responsible for keeping an updated record of all obedience attendance.
Answer general questions and enquires about obedience.
Report to committee on obedience matters during committee meetings.
PUBLIC OFFICER
The Public Officer will be elected during the AGM and they shall:
1 Be any person considered appropriate to the appointment with the necessary skills and knowledge, and may be
from within or from outside the bounds of the Committee
2 Be responsible for the keeping of an up to date record of the Constitution and Rules, and record any changes
made at any Annual General Meeting or Special Meeting
3 Supply to any member of the Club, and the SACA, and Corporate Affairs, up to date copies of the Constitution
and Rules as required
4 Offer advice to the Committee regarding compliance with the requirements of the SACA, and Corporate Affairs
regarding its own Constitution and Rules, as required
5 Notify Corporate Affairs of any change of Public Officer within 28 days
6 Notify Corporate Affairs of any change to the Constitution within 28 days
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
At an Annual General meeting the following reports and statements shall be tabled, or read, prior to election of Officebearers for the ensuing year:(i) Annual report of the progress and proceedings of the previous year.
(ii) Balance Sheet or Financial Statements setting out the receipts and expenditure of the Club for the previous year.
(iii) List of names of financial members of the Club.
(iv) List of Club property and valuation of all items included in the Balance Sheet.
(v) List of holders of all perpetual or running trophies owned by or vested in the Club.
NATIONAL ROTTWEILER COUNCIL DELEGATES

National Rottweiler Council delegates shall be appointed by the Committee of the RCSA Inc, and shall report to
the Committee as and when required by the Committee.
If delegates are present at NRC(A) meetings, Committee requests a written report to be submitted by the next
RCSA Inc Committee Meeting.

CLUB COLOURS

The Club colours of the Rottweiler Club of SA Inc shall be black and gold.
The Club colours are used as ribbon colours at all future RCSA Inc shows, and that the style, font, presentation,
and printing, of the ribbons is to be left to the discretion of the Committee of the time.
The banner of the RCSA Inc shall be in the Club Colours.
CLUB LOGO
A special meeting must be called to change the Club Logo which was agreed to by the Members at a General Meeting held
on 8th January 2008. Any proposed changes must be published in the Club Magazine at least 30 days prior to the meeting
date and must be agreed to at the Special Meeting by the majority of members.

LITTER LISTINGS
Persons wishing to be referred on the Litter Listing of the Rottweiler Club of SA Inc shall
1.
Be members of the Rottweiler Club of SA Inc for a continuous period of the preceding twelve months
2.
Be members of a recognised Canine Control Association in their home State and abide by the Rules and Code of
Ethics of the said club and that of the Canine Control Association.
3.
Complete a written application providing the following details to the Committee. Name, Address, Phone Contact,
SACA Membership Number, and Kennel Prefix. Hip, Eye and Mouth Certificates must be on file with the
R.C.S.A. Inc and must be sent with each Litter Whelped/Expected application.

Be sent a copy of the Code of Ethics with the accompanying statement, and shall sign and return the statement to
the Rottweiler Club of SA Inc.
“I have read and acknowledge the contents of the code of Ethics and the following statements.
I have been a Member of the Rottweiler Club of SA Inc for a continuous period of at least the preceding twelve months, and
I am a current member of the South Australian Canine Association.
If I have any concerns about the functioning of the Breed Information Service I shall direct those concerns to the Committee
in writing and shall not direct my concerns to the Breed Information Officer.
I shall ensure that my membership renewal application form and fees are received by the Club before 31 st October each
year, if I wish to remain on the Recognised Breeder List.”

GENERAL BUSINESS
CODE OF ETHICS
The Rottweiler Club of South Australia Inc believes that the following set of principals and practices
should be an integral part of the activities of all Rottweiler Owners and Breeders. We strongly
recommend these principals and practices to you in the interests of the welfare of all Rottweilers, and the
Standard of the Rottweiler Breed.
The Rottweiler Club of South Australia understands that extenuating circumstances and situations may in
rare cases result in deviations from these practices. We also acknowledge that an individual owner or
breeder may have beliefs and ethics which conflict with one or more of these principals, however, we
would expect that owners and breeders would always act in the interests of the welfare of their dogs, and
the Rottweiler Breed.
A number of the following clauses are included in the Code of Ethics of the South Australian Canine
Association. Breaches of these clauses are subject to disciplinary action by the South Australian Canine
Association, and the Rottweiler Club of South Australia will refer matters to the South Australian Canine
Association if it is in possession of evidence of such a breach.

I shall ensure that at all times all Dogs under my control are properly housed, fed, watered exercised, and receive
proper Veterinary attention if and when required. My dogs shall be kept under sanitary conditions and given
maximum health protection through regular worming and vaccinations.
2
I will ensure that my dogs are adequately trained and socialised so that in public and social situations they are
obedient, disciplined and well mannered, and do not cause a nuisance to members of the public. I shall not allow
dogs under my care to roam at large, and when away from home shall ensure that they are kept leashed, and/or
under effective control at all times.

When planning to breed I shall direct my efforts towards breeding Rottweilers of exceptional quality. I shall
breed only for the purpose of improving the Standard of the Rottweiler Breed and only if I am confident that
quality homes can be found for all offspring. I will breed responsibly, making use of quality stock which are sound
both physically and mentally, and only if I have the facilities, time, and resources to adequately care for the litter.
I will study the strengths and weaknesses of any dog or bitch I intend to use, and inform myself of the genetic
nature of characteristics they display.

I will cull puppies with obvious defects, which are likely to cause impairment to the health of the offspring, or are
likely to be a gross disregard of the Standard. I will not sell or give away stock with known genetic faults except
under a non-breeding agreement, and the purchaser shall be fully informed of the nature of the genetic disorder
present before the sale is complete.

I shall consider the health of my breeding bitches and stud dogs and refrain from breeding them too early or too
late in terms of age, or too often. I shall not breed from any stud dog before the age of 18 months. I shall not
breed from, or allow my stud dog to service, any bitch under the age of 22 months nor after 7 Years and 10
months of age.

I understand that to breed from the same bitch in consecutive seasons is not a recommended breeding practice
and should only be undertaken in exceptional circumstances. If exceptional circumstances exist which I consider
make it necessary to breed from a bitch in consecutive seasons, I will not breed from that bitch for a period of
twelve months from the date of birth of the puppies from that second season.

Should a bitch fail to conceive after being bred to a stud dog, a repeat service may be offered in the following 12
months, provided that the stud is still available and in good health, and at such time and place as is mutually
agreed to by the owners of the stud and the bitch.

I shall not permit any of my pure bred Dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross-bred dog, or to
a dog on the Limited Register, or an unregistered dog of the same breed.

I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for
vaccinations given at six weeks of age 10 to 14 days to provide effective immunity against distemper, hepatitis and
parvo-virus.

I shall ensure that when selling or transferring a dog to another person that documents as required by the South
Australian Canine Association will be lodged by me in accordance with the rules and regulations of that body.

I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and
welfare of the animal, and that they have the time and facilities to perform their obligations, I shall sincerely
attempt to ascertain that they will give them proper care.

I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs placed by me, comprehensive written information on the following: Diet
and Feeding, Immunisations completed and future requirements, Worming completed and future requirements,
Heartworm prevention, Socialisation and Training, Exercise and Play. This information may be in the form of an
appropriate publication relating to the requirements of responsible Rottweiler ownership.

I shall keep accurate records of breeding, sales and registrations and shall provide to all purchasers of dogs placed
by me, a detailed written receipt including date of sale, purchase price, any terms and conditions of sale, and
name and address of the breeder and kennels, and a vaccination certificate from a registered Veterinary
Practitioner.

I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the standard of the breed and not engage in breeding for financial
gain, and I shall not sell any dog to commercial wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly allow a dog
to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind.

I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person
regarding the characteristics and performance of any dog, or the breeding practices of any person. All advertising
whether oral or written, shall be factual and not worded so as to be misleading or to attract undesirable buyers
or to encourage the breeding of purebred Rottweilers as a business.

I will strongly advise purchasers of Rottweilers not sold for Show and/or Breeding purposes to de-sex their dog
to prevent unwanted and crossbred litters.

I will correctly register stock with the South Australian Canine Association and provide appropriate forms to the
purchaser, and will keep accurate records of my Rottweilers, matings, pedigrees, and characteristics present in
litters whelped. I will use this information to breed to reduce the incidence of genetic faults, and to improve the
standard of the Rottweiler Breed.

I understand that the Rottweiler Club of South Australia Inc recommends the “Willis” Scheme in use in WA by
Dr R Wyburn, but will accept X-ray results as per the list of NRC(A) recommended Readers. X-ray results will
be accepted, upon sighting of documentary certification from evaluating authorities in the country of origin in the
case of imported Rottweilers.

The Rottweiler Club of South Australia Inc acknowledges that only those dogs and bitches which have been Xrayed at or after 12 months of age and come within the accepted score limits, as per the R.C.S.A. Inc
recommended scheme, and have certified Eye, Mouth and Elbow Certificates and have none of the serious faults
listed, will be used for breeding.
Lack of one or both testicles, undershot, overshot or wry bites, not possessing 42 teeth, entropian, ectropian, long or curly
coats, excessive temperament such as extreme shyness, nervousness or viciousness towards humans, white markings or
color or markings other than stated in the Official FCI Standard.

I will ensure that the Combined Score of both sire and dam does not exceed a maximum of 20 on the “Willis”
Scheme or a Pass on the X-ray results from the Country Of Origin. The minimum age for scoring under the
“Willis” Scheme is 12 months.

I will be available to purchasers of my puppies for consultation, throughout the lifetime of every dog, and will
willingly give information and advice in the interests of the welfare of dogs I have bred.

As an owner of a Rottweiler I shall act in a sportsmanlike manner, whether winning or losing, in and out of
competition.

1 shall Microchip all my dogs, including all puppies which I breed before they are placed in to their new homes.

ENFORCEMENT CLAUSE
“Pursuant to an enquiry conducted in accordance with clause #6 of the Club’s Constitution, parts (c), (d),
(e), (f) & (g), the Committee may take the following appropriate action”

First Offence – A standard letter requesting an explanation, reply to be within 28 days.
If a reply is received with a satisfactory explanation, no action is to be taken at that time.
If no reply is received, a letter is sent informing the member they have been fined $100.00 to be
paid within 28 days. Failure to pay the fine could result in non-renewal of Membership.
Second Offence – A letter is sent informing the Member they have again breached the Code of
Ethics and a fine of $200.00 has been imposed, payable within 28 days. Failure to pay the fine could
result in non-renewal of Membership.
Third Offence – The Member is notified by mail that their membership is suspended or will not be
renewed for a period to be determined by the Committee

Scoring for this trophy is to be taken on Challenge Points obtained for the 7 Point Score Shows nominated
between the 1st November and 31st October of each year.
All Challenge winners must stay until no longer required for judging. If a competitor does not remain until no
longer required, Challenge points at that show will be forfeited.
Copies of all Challenge Certificates must be sent to the Official Point Score Officer, PO Box 836,
Morphett Vale SA 5162 within 14 day of acquiring the Challenge Points to be eligible for this
trophy.
In the event of a tie, Reserve Challenges will be counted from the 7 nominated Point Score Shows with the dog/
bitch gaining the most, declared the winner.
Recipients to receive 1 award each, E.g 1 for the Top Dog of each year and 1 for the Top Bitch of each year. To
be eligible for the Top Dog/Bitch, the dog or bitch must obtain a V rating at a Rottweiler Specialty Show,
conducted by a State Club with an FCI Judge (approved by the ANKC) approved to grade exhibits, within the

SCHNAPPS TROPHY (Rottweiler Only)
Award Criteria
All criteria must be met.
1. The Award is only open to pure-bred Rottweilers (evidence of breeding not required).
2. The dog/handler must have attended more than 50 obedience classes, ideally many more, with a genuine commitment
to continue attending and improving.
3. The dog must be exceptionally well-behaved and socialized, with a clean record in both obedience training and in the
community.
4. While current grade is not important, there must be recognizable teamwork and bond between dog and handler.
The award can only be received by the same dog/handler once.
Judging
Along with other awards, the trainers will meet during the last weeks of the training year to discuss potential recipients
against the criteria. In the event that multiple dogs are eligible, the one with the most attendances should be granted the
award. The final decision rests with the Head Instructor.
Award
A trophy has been made that will record the names of each winner (dog and handler) from 2007 to 2016. The trophy will
remain the property of the Rottweiler Club of South Australia and winners will be asked to sign a statement to the effect
that they will return the trophy by 30 November each year to enable it to be reissued to the next winner.
The winner will also be provided free training at the Rottweiler Club of South Australia for the year after they have been
granted the Award. This will be made possible by a $100 annual donation to the club by from 2007 to 2016.
Conclusion
This new award is aimed at having many more Rottweilers in the community in South Australia that are well behaved and
trained. A winner of the award should feel proud that their dog is an ambassador for the breed, and isrepresentative of
what the Rottweiler Club of South Australia promotes through its obedience training programme.

ALICE TROPHY (Rottweiler Only)
The “Alice” Trophy for Junior Bitch in Speciality Show.
Aust. Ch. Ormslee Proud Intuition (Alice) was born in Geelong in June 1984. Her parents were Dual Ch Auslese Bold
Gammon OC and Felix vom Madgeburg Import Gmy.
I first donated the “Alice Trophy” in 1995. It is to promote the bitch as the foundation of the breed.
There are no rules.
If the Junior Bitch wins Junior in Show, she also gets the Alice Trophy.
Should she be Opposite Junior in Show it is the bitch who gets the Alice Trophy.
Should the Junior Bitch go on to be Challenge bitch, Best in Show or Runner Up in Show, she will still receive the Alice
Trophy for Junior Bitch as well as other awards.

OBEDIENCE GROUND RULES
As a responsible Club, we are committed to a high level of health, safety and environmental standards. To assists us in
maintaining these standards we have a selected number of points which we ask all our club members to observe, thereby
becoming directly involved in your animals and the club’s well being.

person guilty of any disruptive or harmful behaviour to the Club and its members to leave the training grounds. The
Committee under the rules and regulations of the Constitution may also deal with them as they see fit.
A dog that is not happy and cannot concentrate because of ill health or injury is not permitted to stay in class.
Dogs which have suffered from a contagious disease or have been in contact with a dog suffering from such a
disease will not be allowed on the training grounds.
Puppies will not be permitted to train under the age of 12 weeks and must have had their final vaccination 2 weeks
prior to training. They are not permitted on the grounds for their own safety.
All current vaccination certificates must be sighted on the first night of registration. All dogs must be vaccinated
against Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvo Virus. The Club also suggests vaccination against the highly contagious
Kennel cough.
Bitches in season will not be allowed on the training grounds for a period of 21 days after the first sign of season.

dog has a particular behavioural issue, such as biting, nervousness or aggression, please notify your Instructor before
the class begins. The Instructor will suggest methods to try to overcome these problems. Don’t wait until the dog
bites someone or another dog. One of the reasons for the formation of the Obedience club was to help owners
with such problems.
If you are late to class to do not barge into class. Please wait outside the class until the Instructor acknowledges
you and invites you to join your class. A member may leave class before finishing time by giving prior notice to the
class Instructor.
Wear safe and sensible clothing and footwear. Bare feet or thongs are inappropriate.
All classes are non-smoking. To those smoking on the training grounds, kindly ensure that cigarette butts are
completely extinguished and disposed of in the bin to ensure they are not eaten by a dog.
No mobile phones are to be turned on during training. Please make sure you turn them on silent or turn them off.
No dogs are to be left unattended or let off the lead except under the direction of an Instructor. No dog is to be
tied up under the verandah. Please ask an instructor if you require a peg for your dog to be tied to. No adult dog is
allowed to enter the clubrooms.
Please do not exercise your dog in the proximity of another class in progress.
Dogs are social animals and should be encouraged to socialize BUT please be aware some dogs are not as social as
others! It is essential for the well being and protection of your dog, yourself and other members that you keep a
close watch on your dog at all times. We will be teaching you about dog body language and with your vigilance,
careful socialization between dog and handlers can be encouraged. Remember that you have a responsibility at the
end of the lead and dogs don’t suddenly lunge – if they do, you have missed the warning signs.
If your dog fouls the training grounds, plastic bags have been provided for you to clean it up but we do highly
encourage you to carry some with you whenever you are out with your dog. If your dog urinates on the Club’s
equipment, under the verandah area or on the building, a bucket of water is available from the canteen to enable
you to wash it off.
NO ILLEGAL TRAINING AIDS ARE PERMITTED. Speak to your instructor if your require clarification.
NO PHYSICAL ABUSE OF YOUR DOG WILL BE TOLERATED.
Legal training aids such as muzzles and halters and only to be used under the guidance of an Instructor.
Name tags must be worn at training. If you lose your tag, another one can be purchased for a small fee from the
canteen.
Handlers, dogs or CHILDREN are NOT to use the Agility (jumps/table) Equipment without the direct supervision of
an Instructor.
People not involved in classes, i.e. children, spouses, friends, please sit back away from the class. You are only
making it harder for the handler and/or dog to concentrate on learning. If you bring your children to training it is
your responsibility to look after them.
