A South American Travel Bonanza
Spectacular and diversified scenery, with great shopping,
evocative Tango and excellent food .…where the purchasing
value of our Australian dollar gives great value in both Argentina
and Chile. Personally led by multilingual Seymour Major.
Travel Notes
Clothes / Shopping:
Recommended lightweight (late autumn) clothes for Buenos
Aires, Iguazú and Santiago, with warmer clothes for the Lakes Crossing /
Bariloche area and glacier region. Most things are
inexpensive in Argentina (compared with Australia) and are of excellent
value and quality. If you are a shopper, don’t overload your suitcases prior
to departure. Good value is in all leather goods including shoes, wallets,
suede jackets and cashmere sweaters.
Visa/Health:
No visa is required for Argentina or Chile if travelling on an Australian,
British or New Zealand passport. At least 6 months validity on passport required. A visa and yellow fever vaccination for Brazil are required.
Tipping:
Is already included in the tour price for guides or any included meals.
It is standard practice to tip for meals and services in South America. If
you wish to make additional “ex gratia” payments to our guides, porters
etc. because the services they have provided are over and above your expectations, a general guide would be 10% for meals/drinks, 5 Pesos per
bag for any porterage and the equivalent of 20 Pesos per day or pro rata for
local guides.
Security:
All hotels used provide safe deposit facilities which we urge you to use for
surplus cash, passports etc. Exercise caution at all time for your personal
effects. Do not wear expensive jewellery or watches.

Magallenes. We are then right opposite the world famous Puerto Moreno Glacier. Due to the unique climatic
conditions in this valley, the glacier is the only one in the world that is increasing in size. The sheer size and
splendour makes this a day to remember. We have an “add-on” (requiring extra payment) to this excursion
where you can ice trek on the glacier with a guide and you will be suitably attired with crampons. The conclusion to this “walk” is a unique but lovely surprise! This add-on, of course, is subject to the weather on the day in

Today is our last day in Chilean Patagonia. Our coach takes us northwards to the beautiful lake district area of Frutillar.
Frutillar is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Llanquihue, Chile’s second largest lake. It consists of two population centers: Frutillar Bajo (lower Frutillar), located on the shore of the lake, which preserves its traditional German-style architecture; and Frutillar Alto (upper Frutillar) which developed around the railroad station and later the highway and is now larger
than Frutillar Bajo (lower Frutillar) . The railroad was built in 1912. In February each year, the town celebrates the
“Semanas Musicales”, a classical music festival which is well known throughout Chile. After lunch we continue our journey
northwards to the historic city of Valdivia (founded in 1552), where we will do an orientation tour. This city was the most

1855).Chile’s Pacific Coast is dominated by two neighbouring but quite different cities of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, 140
kilometres from Santiago, through the coastal mountain range. Historic Valparaiso was one of the first Chilean cities
founded by the Spanish. A thriving port for centuries, modern Valparaiso remains Chile’s primary outlet to the sea. The city
is an eclectic mix of cobbled streets, decaying mansions and slums sandwiched between a crescent of forty two hills (cerros)
and the pacific Ocean a mere kilometre away. Whilst in Valparaiso we will visit La Sebastiana, now a museum, but once
home to the famous Chilean Poet and Nobel Lauriate, Pablo Neruda. Viña del Mar nine kilometres to the north is a total
contrast with modern buildings and tower blocks of apartments fringing the coast. It is one of the major beach resorts on
South America’s Pacific coast. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant (included in the tour price)
