Auburn University is an equal opportunity
educational institution/employer.
Jonna Chizik
Kristi Malzahn
Jonna Chizik has been intimately involved in community
service ever since her husband, Gene, got into coaching.
Jonna’s heart for children has evolved through years of
volunteerism and prayer to the Chizik Family YouTurn
Foundation, which was launched in the spring of 2011.
Kristi Malzahn, the wife of Auburn Offensive Coordinator
Gus Malzahn, has answered the call to serve ever since her
husband got into coaching. The Malzahns view coaching
and their opportunity to help children as a ministry,
answering God’s call to serve others.
A native of Roswell, New Mexico, Jonna graduated from
Clearwater (Fla.) High School in 1987. She earned a
degree in early childhood development from Florida State
University in 1991 and a degree in elementary education
from Stephen F. Austin University.
A native of Houston who grew up in Ft. Smith, Arkansas,
where she met Gus as a high school junior, Kristi is a
graduate of Southside High School. She also attended
Henderson State University. Kristi and Gus are the parents
of two daughters, Kylie and Kenzie, who currently attend
Auburn University.
Co-Founder, The Chizik Family
YouTurn Foundation, Inc.
Jonna taught fourth grade for three years but has stayed
home since 1997 with her children, Kennedy and Landry,
13; and Cally, 11. She has been actively involved with a
number of organizations and issues at every stop in her
husband’s coaching career, from the Boys & Girls Club
and A-Team Ministries to pediatric cancer, foster care and
adoption advocacy.
The mission of the Chizik Family YouTurn Foundation
is to partner with non-profit organizations in Alabama
that focus on equipping youth with effective tools to
make positive choices to allow them to become successful
citizens. The Foundation has been funded in part by the
proceeds of Coach Gene Chizik’s book, “All In, What It
Takes to be the Best.” Coach Chizik has donated all of his
proceeds from the book, published by Tyndale Publishers
this summer, to the foundation.

The Malzahns attend First Baptist Church in Opelika,
where Kristi teaches in the college ministry. She is involved
with the leadership of Community Bible Study, the Auburn
University Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Chizik
Family YouTurn Foundation, Inc. She also has traveled to
Haiti with Samaritan’s Purse along with Jonna Chizik.
Kristi says the opportunity to work with Jonna and
YouTurn has been a blessing because it gives her a chance
to help reach the needs of children who otherwise slip
through the cracks.
