Welcome to another Seniors Festival in Pittwater! This
year’s theme is Grow Young - celebrating our seniors
for their energy, experience and unique ability to know
who they are, and what makes them happy!
No matter what your age, I invite you to get involved
in one or many of these activities. After all, it’s never
too late to grow - to learn, to laugh and to be inspired.
NSW Seniors Festival runs from 1 to 10 April, but there’s
a whole month of activities to participate in. So familiarise yourself with
the program and sign up for everything that interests you.
From square dancing, tap lessons and specialty cooking classes, there’s
something to interest everyone and plenty to inspire you to try something
new.
There’s also a great opportunity for our young at heart photographers
to grab a partner and enter the SnapShot Photo Competition. The twist
being you need to team up with one of Pittwater’s youth to enter. The
competition is a joint initiative with Youth Week 2016.
Several local clubs and organisations have open days around Seniors
Week. I encourage you to reach out and connect with a new organisation
and take the opportunity to make some new friends too.
Pittwater is a warm and friendly place, abundant with wonderful people
who want to connect and help one another.
So now is the time to take the plunge and try something you’ve never
done before, like that laughing yoga class your granddaughter told you
about! Or at least grab your neighbour and head out for an art show or
walk around our glorious natural environment.
I’d like to thank all our marvellous community groups, clubs and our
own staff who have been involved in building this wonderful schedule of
events, which I’m sure you are going to be talking about for some time.
On behalf of Pittwater Council we wish you a marvellous NSW Seniors
Festival 2016!

guidance on when one setting may be better
than the other.

ONGOING PARTICIPATION AND
SUPPORT SERVICES
Hopefully you have participated in and enjoyed some of the
many activities made available during Seniors Festival 2016.
Social participation and support is linked heavily to good health
and wellbeing. Within Pittwater, many seniors’ interest groups
play a vital role in ensuring that older people remain connected
to the community through participation in activities that
promote socialisation, physical activity, education and creative
stimulation.
Pittwater has a diverse range of active seniors’ interest groups
that run programs and events throughout the year, not just
during NSW Seniors Festival.
The following pages outline just a few of the many seniors’
interest groups and support services available in Pittwater, in
the hope that you are interested in continuing your participation
when Seniors Festival 2016 is finished.
Many of the seniors’ interest groups and organisations are
listed in the 2016-2017 Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Council’s
Seniors Directory of Services, Activities and Housing.
Copies of the directories can also be found at Council’s customer
service centres; libraries and community centres or viewed
online at www.pittwater.nsw.gov.au
