We are proud to offer fun, safe and structured placements where volunteers understand their contribution to responsible projects run in partnership with local communities and conservation efforts. Our journey so far has been both inspiring and humbling and we will keep pushing the horizons of what volunteering can achieve. in the power of volunteering and have seen the amazing things volunteers can achieve. in Africa and all that this inspiring continent can offer to the world. in the passionate people who work with us and alongside us to create tangible positive impacts and change lives. To us, volunteering is a two-way thing. It’s not just about the hands-on help and skills that volunteers bring; it’s also about what this amazing continent, its people and its wildlife can give those volunteers in return. The volunteer experiences we offer in Africa are based on three key points: 1) volunteers having an amazing time and experiencing everything Africa has to offer; 2) volunteers learning as much as they can about local history, culture and wildlife and soaking up the essence of the country; and 3) supporting local communities and conservation efforts through education and hands-on help. info@africanimpact.com | TEL: +27 (0)87 751 3977 USA Toll Free: 1 800 606 7185 | UK Toll Free: 0800 098 8440 Get to know the African bush whilst exploring on horseback Learn, participate and guide guest horse rides around the game reserve Learn and play the sports of polo, polocrosse and show jumping Get to work closely with and learn from Ted Wilmot, Africa’s Horse Whisperer Gain valuable experience in Holistic Stable and Horse Management within a rustic African setting Work hands on with over 30 horses ranging from thoroughbreds to crossbreeds Have the opportunity to ride through dams and swim alongside the horses Get an introduction to our ground-breaking and globally recognized lion conservation project Have the opportunity to walk alongside lion cubs as they undergo their pre-release training on the reserve Experience local Zimbabwean culture by meeting and working with the local community Optional trips are available to see more of Zimbabwe’s natural wonders and wildlife areas such as the world famous Victoria Falls, Matobo National Park and the ruined city of Great Zimbabwe Make friends for life with fellow volunteers from all around the world! info@africanimpact.com | TEL: +27 (0)87 751 3977 USA Toll Free: 1 800 606 7185 | UK Toll Free: 0800 098 8440 Join our African Stables learning based programme at Antelope Park, a stunning private Game Reserve situated in the heart of Zimbabwe. Under the guidance of stable manager Ted Wilmot you will gain experience into the daily running and management of an African stables, which caters for horse-riding lessons, horse safaris, carriage safaris and the sports of polo, polocrosse, showjumping and more. As a student you will assist with leading the different activities that Antelope Park has to offer, participating in hands-on work within the stables, which houses over 30 horses. At the stables you will find a mixture of cross-breeds, which are mostly used for the horse safaris around the reserve, and thoroughbreds, which the stable trains for polo, polocrosse and show jumping. Besides working very hard, there is plenty of time for fun like dam riding and early morning horse round-ups on horseback. We are very open-minded and are always willing to gain wisdom, whatever the riding style, western or English. The Antelope Park stables are managed by one of Zimbabwe’s best known horsemen, Ted Wilmot. Ted has a lifetime of experience with horses including coaching polo and polocrosse worldwide, representing Zimbabwe in both disciplines, and captaining and coaching the Zimbabwe national sides. Ted is legendary for being Africa’s Horse Whisperer. Teds career spans way back as a jockey, a National Coach for the Zimbabwe men and women’s Polocrosse World Cup Tournament, founding polocrosse in the United Kingdom and coaching the Zimbabwean team into victory at the Quadrangular World Cup against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. His proudest moment as a horseman is when he made the Zimbabwe Polocrosse team for the first time in 1985. By spending time with him, you will not only become a better rider, but you will also learn to understand horses better. Ted has been riding in the African bush for over 50 years, has a lot of knowledge to share and welcomes you to Antelope Park to learn with him. I learned more in ten minutes from Ted than in six months of riding lessons back home.” Emma Hart, former intern. info@africanimpact.com | TEL: +27 (0)87 751 3977 USA Toll Free: 1 800 606 7185 | UK Toll Free: 0800 098 8440 A typical working week is Monday to Saturday, with Sundays off. Antelope Park is home to a worldfamous lion conservation program, called ALERT (African Lion and Environmental Research Trust). ALERT was founded in 2005 and is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the African lion. In an attempt to offset the rapid decline of lion populations, ALERT has initiated a staged lion conservation program that aims to release cubs of captive bred lions into appropriate national parks and reserves across Africa, where they can one day have their own wild-born offspring. ALERT works with communities and policy makers, conservation managers, researchers and business leaders to propose locally conceived and relevant solutions that create sustainable motivation to conserve lions amongst these stakeholder groups. info@africanimpact.com | TEL: +27 (0)87 751 3977 USA Toll Free: 1 800 606 7185 | UK Toll Free: 0800 098 8440 ALERT also work with communities to meet the challenges of living alongside a dangerous predator, whilst conducting research to improve our understanding of the lion’s behavior in Africa’s ecosystem to better inform decision making. As an Antelope Park stables student you will have the opportunity to get hands on interaction with the lion cubs that are in stage 1 of ALERT’s program. Antelope Park is also home to 4 orphaned African elephants. As a student you will have the opportunity to interact with these majestic animals. A typical excursion could look like this: Day 1: Leave after breakfast from Antelope Park for Miombo Safari Lodge (Hwange National Park); the largest national park in Zimbabwe. Enjoy a game drive in Big 5 territory where you could get up close and personal with a herd of elephant, buffalo, a pride of lion and many more. Day 2-4: Leave after breakfast from Miombo for Victoria Falls, adrenalin capital of Africa! You have the option to bungee jump, white water raft, visit the Falls, swing across the Batoka Gorge below the Falls or just enjoy the great social atmosphere at this tourist hotspot! Day 5: Depart early morning from Victoria Falls to return to Antelope Park Please note: This trip only operates with sufficient volunteer interest and is only available to volunteers joining the project for a minimum of 3 weeks. info@africanimpact.com | TEL: +27 (0)87 751 3977 USA Toll Free: 1 800 606 7185 | UK Toll Free: 0800 098 8440 Danny will guide you through the whole pre-arrival procedure for this placement and you will receive comprehensive information throughout to ensure you are fully prepared for your project placement with us.
