HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL:
First of all, I would like to thank all my ladies for
another successful L.O.H. year. As you know, I will
be stepping down as your L.O.H. director, and passing the “handlebars” over to your new director,
Sherrie Schoepke. Sherrie is a fellow female rider, and I know she will do an excellent job in her new position. I have accepted the position of photographer, but will
stay on in an advisory capacity to help her out in any way I can.
Our annual Christmas Party was another awesome success. We again raised quite a lot of money for our charity, For The Luv Of Paws, and will be presenting Cherie with her check in January. Cherie and some of her staff
came to our party as our V.I.P. guests, and she told me that they had never had so much fun in all their lives. If
you have never visited the sanctuary, it is located out on Oatman road right before Ed’s Camp. If you look off
to your right, you will see a sign that says “The Arfanage”. She has an amazing facility for the animals, and even
if some of these animals don’t get adopted, she will love and care for them for the rest of their lives. She is truly an angel sent from heaven to care for these creatures. You can reach her by calling 928-897-7304 to schedule
a tour.
Have a safe and wonderful new year. Hope to see you all at our annual Knees In The Breeze ride on January
1st. From what the weatherman is predicting, this will truly be an endurance ride with the temps being cold
enough to snow!!!!!

Well another year has come and gone along with several bikes, tires, batteries
and accessories. Most have kept dear to them the ride that they love and some
have upgraded to new. Whichever area you fall into, I’m sure it either came easy
or was difficult to decide. I’m happy for all of you as long as both or all wheels
are upright and rolling.
As we go through this first quarter of 2015, please be prepaired for the adverse
weather conditions that come with it. As this letter will be due to the editor prior to the Knees in the
Breeze ride, I hope all attended and had a great time, I’m sure I did ( or least hope so ).
I want to say thank you for your participation this year as it ended up better than DOUBLE that of the
previous year. I can only hope this year turns out as well. Please make sure you read Tony’s letter for
he has some changes for the Chapter.

RIDE SAFE (IT’S NOT THE DESTINATION, IT’S THE RIDE)

Dear Members,
I write to you today to inform you of some changes for the 2015 rules to
qualify to have your 2016 local HOG membership paid by Mother Road
Harley-Davidson. To all of those who have taken advantage of the program in the past, we congratulate you and encourage you to continue taking advantage of its rewards.
For the 2015 calendar year the qualifications are going to change slightly to encourage participation in rides. The intent of the program was to reward those who actively ride with the chapter to continue to do so. To qualify to have your 2016 calendar year dues paid the requirement
is that you ride on at least two chapter rides in the January-June timeframe, and at least two
chapter rides during the July-December timeframe. A ride is an established riding event, not “I
rode my bike to a dinner or meeting” etc. I hope this clears up any potential confusion.

As the riding in 2014 comes to an end, we turn the page to
another adventurous year in 2015.
The time may change but safety concerns do not.
I would urge all who do not have an endorsement to ride a motorcycle
and a motorcycle training coarse to get it done. There are some alarming
statistics out there on this subject by insurance company's of late.
By the way, for those who choose to ride without a helmet and other
safety gear, check your medical part of your insurance to make sure you
are covered. You might be surprised.

“ WHAT’S IN A NAME ” (con’t)
Before I return to the chronological history of H-D, I’d like to revisit some information from the last newsletter. Previously I stated some
statistics RE: H-D’s contribution during WW II, that the motor company produced almost 90,000 units by war’s end for the U.S. and other
Allied militaries. A fellow HOG member asked me about that figure, his thinking was that it sounded a little high. So, I thought that I
would put the 90,000 figure in perspective with some other numbers regarding America’s WW II war production.
To get a good grasp of US military production it may be helpful to note that on 10 May 1940, when German troops burst through the
Lowlands and the Ardennes forest towards France, they had 3,034 aircraft, 2,580 tanks, 10,000 artillery pieces, and 4,000 trucks. In the
five years following the French collapse, by the end of the war, America had turned out;

The first rule that you learn in Historian school is to verify your information with solid documentation and pass that information on to
your reader. I apologize for abandoning that rule in the last newsletter.

So, to pick up the chronology from the previous newsletter I will begin with1980 when another new model, the FXWG Wide Glide, was
released. H-D’s recipe turns out to be a good one. It was said of the Wide Glide that if you felt like rolling down the street in massive
style while not riding a huge bike then the Wide Glide fit the bill. 1982 looked like the perfect time for a new model, thus the FXR/FXRS
Super Glide II hit the showroom floor. And in 1983, the Harley Owners Group (HOG) was founded. An important year in H-D history was
1984, as H-D unveiled a new engine, the 1340cc V Evolution, which was destined for five H-D models. This engine was the result of seven
years of development, and one model equipped with this engine stands out above the rest, the Softail. Two years later the Softail is updated and dubbed the Heritage Softail.
At the same time the company is listed on the American Stock Exchange. In 1987, Harley Davidson starts the Buy Back Program for the
XLH 883 Sportster model. Through this program those who owned this model could trade it within two years of purchase for its full value, or they could choose a FL or FX model.
The FLSTF Fat Boy was introduced in 1990. In 1991, the Dyna line made its debut with the FXDB Dyna Glide Sturgis. In 1993, ninetyyears of H-D history was celebrated by 100,000 people riding in a parade in Milwaukee, and was dubbed the “Family Reunion.” The following year, H-D entered “Super Bike” racing with the introduction of the VR100. At the H-D ninety-fifth anniversary in1998, about
140,000 bikers show up to ride the streets of Milwaukee as a tribute to the manufacturer. The same year H-D opened its first operations
outside the US, in Manaus, Brazil.
The first bike introduced in the new century, in 2000, was the FXSTD Softail Deuce. And fuel injection was unveiled with the 2001 Softail
line. In 2001, the VRSCA V-Rod was launched, a bike inspired by the VR-1000 motorcycle. One year later the Buell Fire Bolt was introduced. In 2003, H-D celebrated its 100th year, and the city of Milwaukee welcomed more than 250,000 people for the final stop of the
Open Road Tour. A recent model introduced by H-D, in 2006, was the FLHZ/I Street Glide, a lower profile touring motorcycle. Also in
2006, Beijing Feng Huo Lun became the first authorized H-D dealer in China.
That’s all the H-D history for now.
