Co ul d th is be yo u? Northern Territory Tenpin Bowling Championships What is it all about? Traditionally Championships are conducted in Singles, Doubles, Teams, All Events and Masters events. Divisions include Male and Female in every event and include Grades Open, A Grade, B Grade, C Grade and D Grade. The Masters event is conducted for Restricted and Junior (using handicap scores), Adult and Seniors Open ( using scratch scores). Each event carries the title of NT Champion and cash prizes and trophies are awarded as well as a personalized shirt, entry fee into the National Finals if you are attending the TBA Nationals as well as entry into next years NT Championships Masters event if you meet the qualifying criteria. Please note travel to Nationals and NT Championships is at your expense. The 2012 NT Championships will be conducted in Darwin from 21st April 2012 with the finals on 5th and 6th May 2012. Bite off more than you can chew and chew like hell! The Northern Territory Championships have been conducted in the Northern Territory since 1979. The Championships are held at the same time during alternate years in Darwin and Alice Springs. During 2012 Championships will be held in Darwin at The Planet. We invite all TBA Registered players to nominate to play in this event. Qualifying— means bowling 3 games in an event to post a total pinfall score in your grade. Singles— means bowling a 3 game series where only your score counts to post in your grade. Doubles— means a 3 game event where you bowl with another person and the total pinfall of both bowlers counts to post the pinfall score in your grade. Teams— means a 3 game event where you bowl with 3 or 4 other people and the total pinfall of all bowlers counts to post the pinfall score in your grade. Trios means a 3 game event where you bowl with 2 other people and the total pinfall of all bowlers counts to post the pinfall score in your grade. All Events— is the best 3 game score from singles, doubles and teams or trios that you have accrued by bowling in the individual events. Masters Masters is the best of the best in that average group. Usually the top 12-16 boys and girls, men and women, who complete in all events will be eligible to compete in the masters final. You should be very proud of yourself if you reach this stage. There are 4 Masters events Junior (under 18) Restricted (men 184 average and below, women 174 average and below) Open Seniors (must attain 50 years of age or more in the year of the competition) Junior— Is a division of bowlers, under 18 years, boys or girls Youth Is a division of bowlers, under 21 years, male or female Adult— Is a division of bowlers, over 21 years, male or female Seniors— Is a division of bowlers, over 50 years, male or female Scratch Pinfall—Pinfall accrued which is only the pins you knock down in any game or series of games, without handicap. Presentation - is the presentation of prizes and this can be done on lanes or at a different venue to include dinner. Prize Fund Part of the entry fee which is allocated to the prizes for competitors Tournament Fee—This is a cost taken from every entry fee to fund the running of the event— administration, resources and any additional costs that arise. Lineage— The cost of games bowled ie $6 per game Dress Code— The rules applying to what you wear during tournament or championship play, this is usually stated on the entry form. In all tournaments and championships throughout Australia there is a dress code which bowlers must adhere to, to be eligible to bowl in an event. As you are able to bowl your events in league, you can wear what you would normally wear to bowl in league however for Masters there is a higher standard of dress. Men/Boys - long tailored pants, with a collared shirt (can be a polo shirt) Ladies/Girls - long tailored pants, tailored shorts, tailored skirt or skort, with a collared shirt (can be a polo shirt) ** Sponsors’ shirts or State team shirts that are not collared will be acceptable providing they are neat and tidy, and deemed suitable by the Tournament Committee. ** Track pants and denim of any kind is not permitted in Masters events Tournament Director—Usually 4 people are allocated this title in the championships and they are the volunteers who make the decisions or rulings on the event. They manage and run the Championships, without them there are no championships. Schedule of Events—The timetable for the championships, when people can bowl, what time is check-in etc Squads These are the times set aside by the bowling centre management where lanes are allocated to bowling championships entries. HALL OF FAME AND NT TENPIN BOWLING SPORT AWARDS The Northern Territory Tenpin Bowling Association has a Hall of Fame and Tenpin Sport Awards Committee. The Tenpin Sport Awards are presented annually to recognise bowler achievements during the previous year and this is usually done at a dinner prior to the NT Championships. Biannually the Association will induct at least one new Hall of Famer as recognition for achievements and/or volunteer work for the Association over many years. As our Championships are now in their 33rd year this recognition has now begun in earnest. Our current Hall of Fame includes Roy Andrews, Debbie Halprin, George Voukolos and Jim Polkinghorne. 2012 Hall of Fame and 2011 Sport Awards Celebration to be held on Friday 27th April 2012 at a Venue to be advised. Tickets will be available from all Committee members. Tables of 10 so make a night with friends to attend our prestigious awards. NT CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE 2012 Qualifying commences Saturday 21st April 2012, bookings must be made at the centre as lane availability is dependent on league and recreational play, however lanes will be set aside on Sundays for championship qualifying but bookings are essential. The final weekend for the Masters finals is 5th and 6th May 2012. Events to be contested—Singles, Doubles, Trios—21st April to 5th May 2012 Alice Springs bowlers have priority on lanes Thursday 3rd May until 5th May for qualifying because of travel time restrictions. Trios challenge—Friday May 4th May—7.00pm Check-in, 7.15pm start for 3 games. Junior Restricted Master Saturday 5th May—10am start—8 games Adult Restricted Masters—Saturday 5th May—Check-in 2.30pm for 3pm start –12 games Open and Seniors Masters—Sunday 6th May, check-in 8.30am for 9.00am start—12 games Presentation on lanes at the completion of Open and Seniors Masters Presentation Dinner – To be advised – ASTBA to arrange What do I do if I have questions about the Championships?
