Here’s how to participate:
Kitchen planning
It starts with an empty space and endless possibilities.
The work triangle –
creating an ideal work flow
The main working functions in a kitchen are carried out
between the hob, the sink and the refridgerator. These
three points and the imaginary line between them,
make up what kitchen experts call the “work triangle”.
The trick is to position these three points so that they
are not too far from each other (this would make you
walk backwards and forwards more than you need to
when carrying out a task) and not too close to each
other (this makes for cramped working conditions).
Ideally, the line between these three points should not
exceed 6 metres in total. The ideal distance between
the different working points is 90 cm.

Get inspired
Browse among our kitchen solutions and discover
all the functions. Create the look of your dream
kitchen by combining fronts, worktops, appliances,
knobs and handles. Find more inspiration at
www.IKEA.com.my/kitchen and in the store.
Measure your room
An essential part of the planning process, accurate
measuring helps to ensure that your new kitchen
will fit and function properly.
Start planning
The planning area in the store has computers
you can use to plan your kitchen in 3D by adding
cabinets with interior fittings to your room. You
can try it out yourself at www.IKEA.com.my/
kitchenplanner or you can use graph paper and
paper puzzle. Our kitchen experts are on hand to
provide hints and advice.
Perfect your kitchen
Complete your kitchen with mouldings, lighting,
wall and sink organisers, trolleys and more from
our complete offer of kitchen items.
Choose services and place your order
IKEA is on hand to assist with delivery, installation
and finance. Use and pay only for the services
you’ll need to make your dream kitchen a reality.
Prepare for planning:
Kitchen zones and layouts
With the help of a few basic principles,
you can design a kitchen that meets your
need precisely – saving you time and
effort and contributing to a better quality
of everyday life.
If you’re thinking you don’t have room in your home for
a triangular kitchen, don’t worry: the working triangle
can be effectively achieved in many different layouts,
according to preference and the shape of the room.
Single-line kitchen
Where space is scarce, a singleline kitchen in which the working
triangle is reduced to a straight line,
can be the most practical solution.
It’s also pleasing to look at.
Single-line with island
This single-line kitchen includes an
island. An island provides plenty of
storage as well as extra work surfaces,
but it requires at least 120 cm of free
space around to work well.
U-shaped kitchen
If you have a large room
the U-shaped layout is
ideal. It gives you maximum
space and plenty of storage
options – ensuring that
everything is within easy
reach. If the room is very
large, it’s important to
ensure that the points of
the working triangle (see
explanation above) are not
too far from one another.
Kitchen planning
Your dream kitchen
L-shaped kitchen
The L-shaped kitchen is ideal when you want to
add a small dining table or kitchen island. It’s also
a good way to make the most out of a corner, as
well as integrate the kitchen into a dining area.
Parallel kitchen
You don’t need to have a huge amount of space for this
layout. It’s geared for food preparation and provides
two great work and storage areas on opposite sides.
In fact, it’s a favourite of many professional chefs.

kitchen lighting
Light Up
Your Kitchen
Chopping chores and cleaning up are much easier
when you can see what you’re doing.
In kitchens, you need functional lighting directed
over different areas to carry out tasks and to
minimise the risk of accidents. You also need
general lighting, such as ceiling lamps, that
spread light evenly throughout the whole room.
Have a look through the following tips and learn
how to light your kitchen for good function and
atmosphere.
Hang the lamp
at the right
height
Ceiling spotlights provide
effective glare-free lighting
Ensure that they are placed so that a person standing
by the workspace does not cast shadows onto it.
Make the countertop
lighting glare-free
If it is too high, it will
cause glare. If it is too
low, it will get in the
way. The recommended
height for pendant lamps
is about 55–60cm above
the table or countertop.
The height depends on
the design of the lamp
and whether it casts a
diffused or directed light.
They are generally mounted
close to the ceiling and do not
get in the way when opening
and closing cabinet doors.

Countertop lighting
distributes an
even light over the
workspace
No shadows are cast over the
workspace since the light source
is in front of the person by the
counter. If you have a dining area
nearby, ensure that countertop
lighting does not cause glare for
anyone who is sitting there.
If so, add a decorative moulding
strip to the underside of the
cabinet to shield the glare.

Show off the objects
inside your cabinets
This makes it easier to carry out tasks such as cleaning. With
a dimmer switch, you can adjust the amount of light to suit
the atmosphere. For your convenience, place the light switch
at the entrance of the kitchen so you can see where you are
going when it is dark.
Combine glass door cabinet lighting
and glass shelves to light up
everything in the cabinet.

A balcony can become a blooming, luscious green oasis with determination,
patience and time (and of course, sun, soil and water). Optimise whatever
space you have by planting at different heights – on the ground, on stools,
shelves, chairs and even hanging from clothes racks. Just be sure to pay

Here are some key items to create a hotel-styled bedroom
The relationship that you have with your bedroom is special.

No matter where, hotel rooms always have
something in common: an excessive number
of pillows, colour-coordinated bedding &
textiles, obligatory nightstands, multiple
light sources, dressing table, wardrobe, as
well as a headboard. They add a sense of
grandeur and comfort, and with freelyarranged armchairs, a sense of freedom.
Most importantly, the bed should always
take centre stage. And buy the best bed
you can. This will be the best investment
you have ever made for your peace of mind.
Unlike a hotel room that must please many
people, your bedroom is the one place that
is truly yours, so go ahead and create one
that suits your personality. Here are some

Everything to keep your baby safe and sound
Newborns spend most of their days sleeping.
Naturally you’d want a cot designed for safety and
comfort, just like ours are. Our cots come with
height-adjustable bed-base, meaning once your
baby is old enough to sit up, the bed-base can be
lowered for their safety.

Adults keep off! Kids like
to have their own space
where they can feel safe
and do their own things
without someone nagging.
Be it a blanket fort or the
space under their bed
tent, it’s a fun way for
them to be independent.
Children grow up too
fast! Frame up all these
special moments.
5
As a child, we always wanted to be grown-ups.
Maybe that’s why children keep outgrowing their
clothes. What you need, then, is a modular and
customisable storage that grows with your little one.
7
…and for many
years to come.
S
oon after your darling took his
first cuddly steps and said his first
words, he’ll start picking up more
words and learn many new things
about the world around him. That’s where
he’ll get started on his first question. And
then the second, third, and so forth – all
starting with the hardest word of all: ‘why’.
Why? Because the age of 3 to 7 is the
age of wonders. At this time, curiosity
reigns and play is serious stuff. Children
of this age learn by exploring, asking and
imitating. The world is a playground for
them, so let them play, draw, sing, run
around, read, and do whatever it is that
catches their interest.
Sure, children will play with their food
and eat their toys, all while climbing up
and down your furniture. But it does help
them develop their fine motor skills. So
while your iPad can be a great babysitter,
try not to rely on it too much. Instead,
make space for activities. Use practical
furniture that can be moved around and
cleaned up easily.
3
Mirror, mirror, on the
wall. Who’s the cutest
of them all? Let your
child discover herself
in this playful, impactresistant and childproof mirror. Maybe
she’ll be convinced
that it’s finally time to
take a bath too!
Furniture and toys that are true to
life is a great way to spark roleplaying games. Children develop
social skills by imitating grownups and inventing their own roles.

MÅLA easel

As he grows older, you’ll be surprised at
how fast he outgrows his clothes. More
complex games, school and outdoor
activities also mean that efficient storage
solutions are a must, especially if he still
can’t let go of his 6-year old teddy bear.
Drawing and painting let
children express themselves
freely, helping them make
sense of the world around
them. Plus it exercises
children’s fine motor skills.
8
Let’s face it. Children grow faster
than your bank account does. Here’s
an extendable bed that grows with
them, so you can spend more time
with them and less at work.

Prepared for tough love
Who thinks about safety when having lots of fun? Not
kids, they’ve got more important things to do – so it’s our
responsibility to see the hidden dangers.
As with all our children’s products, IKEA PS LÖMSK is made
with rounded corners, no protruding parts, and plastic that
bends rather than cracks.
An extra wide and weighted foot makes it tip-proof (if you’re
not allowed to spin it at full speed, then what’s the point?)

STAIN Busters
So you just got home after
a long day’s work, and your little
girl comes running eager to tell you about
her day. She had learnt about different types
of flowers in school. So she drew some for
you, except that it’s on the wall. With love
and crayons. Instead of getting angry and
worrying about repainting the wall, you can
try using baby oil or toothpaste. Here are
some other cleaning tips using common
items found around the home.
Refresh your
chopping board
Squeeze a few drops of
lemon juice on the board,
rub and let it sit for about 20
minutes before rinsing.
Removing water stains on
wooden furniture
Use hairdryer on low heat to
dry the affected area. Then
rub olive oil, used tea bags or
even mayonnaise over the area.
The oil and tannins will act as a
natural polish.
Removing juice/red wine
stains
Spilled red wine on your candlelight dinner? Save your date by
pouring saltwater over it! Table
salt also helps lift stubborn
red wine stains. Dissolve 4
tablespoons of salt in 1 litre
of hot water and sponge the
stain with the solution before
washing the garment.
Odour neutraliser
Besides stain-removal
properties, Baking Soda is
also good for neutralising
nasty odours e.g. baby spit-up
on clothes.
Removing grease stains
Talcum powder, baby powder or even (same-colour)
chalk is good for absorbing grease from fabrics.
For grease in the kitchen, try a combination of baking
soda and lemon water.

When the going
gets tough,
the tough part’s
cleaning up…
White vinegar is also a good natural alternative for an
all-purpose surface cleaner. Just remember to spray
diluted white vinegar on a soft cloth (never spray it
directly on furniture).
For removing spots and burn marks on your
pots and pans, give it a go with baking soda or
non-gel toothpaste.
