This manual applies to the following equipment:

Warranty information
The Delivery and Warranty registration form must be
completed and signed to validate your warranty protection.
As the new equipment owner, you are expected to see that
the form is completed and forwarded to Hustler Turf
Equipment at the time of delivery.
Important: Any unauthorized modification, alteration,
or use of non-approved attachments voids the warranty and
release Hustler Turf Equipment from any liability arising
from subsequent use of this equipment.
To the new owner
The purpose of this manual is to assist owner’s and
operator’s in maintaining and operating the Hustler Hi-Lift
Bac-Vac. Please read it carefully; information and
instructions furnished can help you achieve years of
dependable performance.
The Hi-Lift Bac-Vac you have just purchased is to be
used as a vacuum grass pickup attachment for any 60” or
72” Quadcycler decks or 60” or 72” Side Discharge Decks
mounted on any of the following Hustler tractors:
4100
4200/4300/4400/4420/4500/4600
Model and serial number
The Hi-Lift Bac-Vac model and serial numbers are found
on the serial identification plate, located on the right side of
the rear mount plate.
These numbers are required on the Warranty Registration
form. They will also assure you of the correct service parts
when replacement becomes necessary.
This Hi-Lift Bac-Vac features an additional blower
assembly mounted on the mower deck, a transfer tube, and
rear-mounted collecting hopper which hydraulically raises
to allow dumping directly into a trailer or truck bed.
It is the owner’s responsibility to make certain that the
operator reads and understands this manual before operating
this machine.
Parts and service
Use original Hustler equipment replacement parts only.
These parts are available through your local Hustler
equipment dealer. To obtain prompt, efficient service,
always provide the following information when ordering
parts:
1. Correct part description and number, as given in
the parts manual supplied with your owner’s
packet.
2. Correct model number.
3. Correct serial number.
All warranty repair and service must be handled through
an authorized Hustler dealer. Arrangements should be made
through your local service center.

Using this manual
General operation, adjustment, and maintenance guidance
is outlined for both the experienced and novice Hustler user.
Operating conditions vary considerably and cannot all be
addressed individually. Through experience, however,
operators should find no difficulty in developing good
operating skills suitable to most conditions.
Directions used in this manual, for example RIGHT or
LEFT, refer to directions when seated on the tractor facing
forward, unless otherwise stated.
Photographs and illustrations used were current at the
time of printing. Hustler Turf Equipment reserves the right
to redesign and change the machine as deemed necessary,
without notification. If a change has been made to your
machine which is not reflected in this owner’s manual, or
the parts manual (772178), see your Hustler dealer for
current information and parts.

deflector chute in place.

Unloading
Follow normal tractor and mower deck start-up and
operating procedures as outlined in the respective owner’s
manual. The blower assembly will operate when the mower
deck’s electric clutch switch (Fig. 3-2) is turned to the “ON”
position. To stop the blower assembly, turn the electric
clutch switch to the “OFF” position.
When the hopper is filled, turn the electric clutch switch
to the “OFF” position. Then drive the machine to the
unloading area.
Your Bac-Vac is designed for 54” ground clearance. The
maximum height of the top rail of trailer or truck should not
be more than 52” above ground level. Avoid trying to
unload on uneven surfaces or where tractor wheel may drop
into a hole or depression. Obvious damage to truck or
hopper may result.
Back the machine to within a few feet of unloading area.
If a trailer or truck is being used, square up as much as
possible.
WARNING: Back machine with extreme care
on wet ground or slopes. Wheels may slip and
cause operator to lose control. Always be aware
of small children when backing or unloading
hopper.
Pull back on the auxiliary hydraulic control valve lever
(Fig. 3-3) until you see, or feel, the hopper hesitate. Allow
hopper and chute to pivot up until the chute is almost
horizontal. (Fig. 3-4) Release lever and the hopper will
remain in that position giving the operator rear visibility.
Continue to back the machine until the bottom lip of the
hopper extends over the top rail (Fig. 3-4).
Again pull back on the auxiliary hydraulic control valve
lever raising and dumping the hopper’s contents (Fig. 3-5).
The hydraulic valve will go over-relief when the hopper
cylinder reaches full travel. Release lever.

When hopper is emptied, drive forward a few feet and
push the auxiliary hydraulic control valve lever forward
until the hopper is fully lowered into collecting position.

WARNING: Never drive the machine with the
hopper in the raised position except for
unloading. This can cause major damage to the
support arms. More important, it could cause
higher center of gravity, making machine easier
to tip over.
Repeat mowing and unloading procedures until job is
completed.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Always lock the hydraulic lift
cylinder with the safety lock when working on or
under the hopper while in the raised position.

clean by brushing or washing. Clean as required.
The hopper lift arms (Fig. 4-4) require a thin coating of
SAE multi-purpose grease so they will slide easily inside the
channels. Grease as required.

The hydraulic cylinder safety lock (Fig. 4-1) is normally
stored on the hydraulic cylinder mounting frame and held in
place with a pin and hair pin clip.
To install: raise the hopper, remove safety lock from the
storage position, and install it on the cylinder ram with the
tangs pointing to either side as shown (Fig. 4-2). Lower
hopper to rest on stop.

WARNING: Never work on the blower
assembly or mower deck when the tractor engine
is running.
The blower and transfer tube should be kept free from any
accumulation of matted clippings or other obstructions.
Occasional clogging may also occur when working in
heavy, wet or matted grass.

Hopper assembly
WARNING: Make certain the engine is turned
off and the ignition key is removed from the
ignition switch before cleaning the blower and
hopper chute areas.
The permanent screen, located inside the hopper, is
accessible when the hopper is in the raised position (Fig. 43). For maximum performance, this screen must be kept

4-7). This belt is spring tensioned and should not need
adjustment. To inspect or replace, loosen and remove the
shield retaining nuts and lift it off.
When belt replacement becomes necessary, check the
condition of the pulleys. Clean the grooves and check for
excessive wear. A new belt should not run against the
bottom of groove. If it does bottom out, then pulley needs
replacing.

Model 925537 only
The blower spindle jack shaft assembly requires
lubrication after every 500 hours of use or annually,
whichever occurs first. The spindle is equipped with one
grease zerk (Fig. 4-8). They are accessible by unlatching
the blower housing from the deck and pivoting it outward.
Use SAE multi-purpose grease, fill until grease flows from
side of zerk (one or two ounces maximum).

WARNING: Never place hands or feet into the
blower housing spout. There is an impeller
located inside the housing that will cause severe
injury. Use a probe to clean debris from spout.

Model 923342 and 924688 Hi-Lift Bac-Vac — To
service the blower housing, raise the mower deck and
remove the cap screw to release the removable baffle (Fig.
4-5).
Model 925537 Hi-Lift Bac-Vac — To service the blower
housing: disconnect the upper and lower latches and swing
the housing away from the deck.
To service the transfer tube (Fig. 4-6), loosen the hose
clamp and remove tube from either top or lower end. The
tube can be cleaned by using soapy water and washing the
inside of the tube with a pressure washer. Rinse with water.

STORAGE
When your mower is to be stored or unused for a period
of time, wash and remove the matted grass material from
inside the hopper and clean the fabric mesh. Also, clean the
discharge area in the blower assembly.
Check for loose or missing hardware, tighten or replace.
Also check for badly worn or damaged parts, consider
replacing them at this time. Touch up chipped paint areas,
your Hustler dealer has aerosol spray paint available.
