THE MEGÈVE EXPERIENCE
With one of the most beautiful panoramas
over the Mont-Blanc massif, the village of
Megève keeps all of its promises.
Just two hours from Lyon and one hour
from Geneva’s International Airport,
Megève offers a quality of tourism
unequalled in the Northern Alps.
A real treasure chest, the pedestrianized
heart of the village of Megève has managed
to preserve its heritage and Alpine
architecture, as well as its Haute Savoyard
authenticity that can be discovered along
the narrow streets that lead you to art
galleries, more than 200 shops and the
gastronomic restaurants that have made
Megève quite unique.
4
To prefer Megève in the winter, is to take
advantage of not just one, but two skiing
areas, where the Evasion Mont-Blanc and
the “Portes du Mont-Blanc” areas together
offer 400km of ski slopes on which to
enjoy a multitude of winter sports,
and for all levels: from the gentle slopes on
the Jaillet hillsides to the more technical
Cote 2000 massif.
To come to Megève is the guarantee of
unforgettable memories, from the majestic
Christmas tree decorated like a work of
art and presiding over the village square,
to sleigh rides and the unrivalled “aprèsski” ambiance, Megève has everything
to ensure that it is a unique holiday
destination.
5
To choose Megève is to opt for exceptional
holidays, accessible to all budgets thanks
to a varied and wide range of tourist
accommodation, where family run hotels,
chalets and apartments rented for the
season and renowned high quality hotels
stand side by side.

SkiFun Megève also makes it possible
to calculate the altitude difference covered in
a day, in order to find out one’s achievements
and progress in a day of skiing.
SPEED TEST
To complete your sporting feedback, it will
also be possible to test your speed with the
Speed Test, located on the red “Schuss” ski
run at the Mont d’Arbois. The recording and
the photo can be directly claimed on the web.

This App makes it possible to take

ESF CROSSBAG COURSE
During the French school holidays the
ESF (French Ski School) holds a freestyle
course, spread over 6 afternoons.
The aim: get the most out of the learning
modules on the Wadzai Park to develop
balance, coordination and performance,
and have fun enjoying the sensations.
SKI IN THE TRACKS
OF OUR CHAMPIONS WITH THE ESF
Combine the pleasures of skiing with
discovering the Megèvan winter sports
heritage, this is the ESF’s great new idea.
On top of a traditional skiing lesson, the
instructors lead participants in the tracks
of former champions, such as Emile Allais
or Roger Allard, sharing a few atypical
anecdotes and their perfect knowledge
of the skiing area.
And to recharge your batteries, it is
possible to stop for a tasting session in
an alpage (high mountain pasture).
PERMANENT SKI CROSS TRAIL
Bound by a special affection for ski cross,
through the organisation of International
competitions, Megève has a permanent ski
cross trail on the Rochebrune skiing area.
A run accessible to everyone and which
promises some great rushes of adrenaline.
FREESTYLE AIRBAG
Perform jumps or acrobatic tricks and
land on a 165m² mattress, lined with an
air pocket; this is the concept of the
Freestyle Airbag.
Located on the Moutely ski run in
Rochebrune, it has been specially
designed to guarantee skiers maximum
safety when landing.

of 10 modules and a border cross under

introduction
Megève’s church was built in 1085 and bears witness to the different chapters of the village’s
history, through its Baroque onion dome Bell Tower, its Neoclassical style facade or even its
Choir whose wall covering dates back to the XIVth century.
We can see this affection for its history throughout the village that has followed a mastered
evolution over the centuries. The heritage has indeed remained intact and new buildings have
respected Megève’s architectural harmony and traditions. With guided visits organised by

megève, a unique architectural heritage
26
HENRY JACQUES LE MÊME :
THE VISIONARY
AND THE SKIER’S CHALET
He is at the origin of the
construction of Noémie de
Rothschild’s personal chalet,
a project that was to mark
the beginning of a new style
in mountain architecture.
Uncluttered proportions,
the absence of a basement,
a double roofing system, a
large south-facing balcony
and reinforced concrete
become the base of his
future constructions.
This new style of
architecture, inspired by
Corbusier, a cross between
Alpine and urban styles,
won over a cosmopolitan
clientele and provoked
the rapid development of
the mountains as holiday
destinations. HJLM’s most
iconic work in Megève, in
pride of place by the Calvary
Way, is the house-studio that
he occupied himself over 60
years. A building that has
been listed since 1995.
THE CALVARY
The Calvary, a former
pilgrimage site, was built
in the XIXth century.
Composed of 14 chapels
and oratories, it is dedicated
to Christ’s Passion.
Megève’s Calvary, inspired
by that of Varallo en Val
Sesia, is unique in the
Rhone-Alps region and
is listed as a European
“Sacred Mountain” site
and has been listed
as a National Historic
Monument since 1988.
Restoration work of the
Calvary chapels was
staggered over the period
2001 to 2011.
the new megève museum exhibition :
tops-socquet, a photographic
testimony of megève 1923-2015
FROM FRIDAY 18TH DECEMBER 2015 TO SUNDAY 17TH APRIL 2016
This exhibition recounts the itinerary of a dynasty of two
brothers, Megèvan photographers, whose regard bears
witness to the transformation of a mountain village into an
Internationally renowned winter sports resort. At the same
time it evokes the history of photography, from the dark
room to digital photos.
A reconstruction of the Souquet brother’s photo studio, a
collection of old cameras and a photo gallery with which to
relive Megève’s farming and rural past, its village festivals, its
streets and shops and the advent of winter sports, including
an allusion to stars, both local and international.
Admission free.
Closed on the 25/12/15 and 01/01/16.
