Housed at the JCC of Youngstown, we offer our campers a safe, fun environment to build lifelong friendships through unforgettable adventures. Camp JCC is designed for campers of all ages and interests, regardless of ethnic and religious background. Our friendly atmosphere provides the perfect place for your child to make new friends while building social skills. Camp JCC Day Camp is conveniently housed on the JCC’s 18 acre campus. Our state-of-theart facility includes an indoor pool, gymnasium, tennis courts, archery field, professional kitchen, and Noah’s Parkthe best playground in Youngstown. We are conveniently located minutes from the 711 connector on Gypsy Lane (across from ValleyCare Heath Systems’ Northside Hospital). All Camp JCC staff is certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. We exceed the staffing standard set by the ODJFS (Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services) with the 1:10 Counselor/Camper Ratio. The JCC no longer maintains strict kosher guidelines throughout the facility. Families may now bring meat (with the exception of pork or shellfish products). Campers will need to wear comfortable play clothes and sneakers. No sandals or Crocs! Pack a bathing suit and towel for swimming activities every day, even those enrolled in specialty camps. All Specialty Camps will allow Campers to participate in swim in the afternoon. Most Specialty Camps will also allow Campers to participate in field trips or theme days on Wednesdays. However, there are a few exceptions and we will notify you if your camper is enrolled in one of these Specialty Camps. Make sure to bring sunscreen or put sunscreen on before camp everyday. Campers will receive a Camp JCC t-shirt and must wear it every Wednesday for field trips and/or theme days. This specialty camp runs in collaboration with YSU’s Department of Theater and Dance. Our two week program will give campers an exciting taste of the theatrical world with a focus on acting, set construction and costume design. The culmination of the program will be a performance staged by the participants. Campers will also take part in afternoon swimming. Ages 8-14 Maximum: 30 campers The First Tee Junior Golf Camp at Creekside Golf Dome June 22-26 This specialty camp will be hosted by the First Tee Junior Golf Program at Creekside Golf Dome. Participants will learn the basics of golf while hitting balls at the facilities indoor and outdoor golf ranges. Campers will also utilize the Dome’s state-of-the-art golf simulators and the camper’s short game will be put to the test on a challenging 18-hole putt-putt course. Ages 8-14 Maximum: 12 campers NEW! Martial Arts Camp June 28–July 3 With Camp JCC’s partnership with GTA Martial Arts in Girard, Ohio, participants will receive hands-on training from Martial Arts masters and learn many life lessons to be heroes at home and in public. Martial Arts camp strives to develop character, personality, positive attitudes, and characteristics in its students which enables them to reach their goals. Circus of the Kids Come join the circus in this exclusive specialty camp! You won’t find a camp like this anywhere else in Youngstown. In one week campers will be challenged to do things beyond their wildest dreams. They will learn and practice the art of trick roller skating, trapeze and other amazing routines from circus professionals! Campers will audition on Sunday, June 28 and be placed in small groups where they will have staff work with them individually on their assigned circus act. At the week’s end, complete with costumes and makeup, the kids will proudly present a full-fledged circus performance for their fellow campers and then a second performance for family and friends. July 13-17 Maximum: 13 campers No previous experience is needed Horseback Riding July 20-24 or July 27-31 This year we head to Watkins Quarter Horses in Canfield where Amy Watkins and her staff will teach campers the basics of riding and caring for horses on their 28 acre grounds. Campers will learn skills such as riding and trotting and then finish the week with a fun trail and/or Ages 6-14 (Limited space for age 6) obstacle course. Amy has been showing and training horses for over 27 years and is excited to be a part of Camp JCC! NEW! Mad Scientist Camp: Secret Agent Lab July 6-10 Go inside a scientist’s lab and discover the secrets you’ve always wondered about! Use your skills as a chemist to make your own radical reactions with batteries, nickels and more. Compare fingerprints and discover the mysteries of DNA as you fine-tune your secret agent skills. Make “brain goo” and check out your bones as you travel the organ trail and uncover the secrets of your own body. Become a Mad Science detective and use your forensic skills to solve the “Great Ice Cream Caper.” Come join us for some mad scientist fun! Ages 6-14 Maximum: 25 campers Maximum: 15 campers 3D Printing Camp July 20-24 INVENTORcloud and America Makes will introduce campers to the exciting world of 3D printing. Campers will gain hands-on experience designing and manufacturing their own 3D printed creations. Each camper will design, build and keep several parts and assemblies they have created. Ages 8-14 Maximum: 15 campers Lego Camp Heroes August 3-7 Campers will get the chance to build their own world as they construct characters and scenes from the Lego Movie, DC and Marvel super heroes and Disney Princess castles. We welcome campers of all ages and skill levels! Ages 6-14 ADVANCED SPECIALTY CAMPS CAMPERS ENTERING GRADES 5-8 These camps are specifically designed to inspire our middle school age campers with more diverse and challenging experiences. Broadway 360 with Liz Rubino Annie Jr. July 6-17 Special two week camp Young artists taking part in this premier program will be exposed to a full circle musical theater experience. Campers will begin with the casting process and auditions and end with a final performance of Annie Jr. Camp JCC campers will also perform Annie Jr. for family and friends at Camp JCC. No previous experience is required; all levels are encouraged to participate. Minimum Campers: 12 *All LRS Studio participants will receive member rate. Website Development and Design July 27-July 31 Do you know what HTML stands for? During this advanced specialty camp, computer programmer and website developer, Mike Helmick, will dive head first into the digital age with our Website Development and Design camp. Campers will learn all of the “lingo” associated with development and they will also have the opportunity to create their own websites! Maximum Campers: 15 NEW! Newscaster Camp August 3–7 Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a television news reporter? Well now's your chance to find out. In this week long camp, former 21 News Reporter Talia Hagler will teach you how to shoot video, write and report a news story, and edit it all together. You'll go home with a copy of your very own camp news story starring you! Maximum Campers: 12 LEADER IN TRAINING (LIT) PROGRAM Teens Entering Grades 9-10 in fall 2015 WHAT IS THE LIT PROGRAM? The LIT program is a leadership development curriculum created for 9th and 10th graders interested in becoming a camp counselor and developing their skills as a leader in their school and community. The eight-week summer session provides leadership training, activity programming experience, self-awareness workshops, and teambuilding exercises for young teens. Camp JCC’s LIT program is designed for teens that have an interest in working with younger children and hold a desire to be in a leadership role. The LIT program is a great opportunity for teens to learn new skills that will help them prepare for future employment. Need Based Scholarships Camp JCC is open to every member of the Greater Youngstown community. If your family needs financial assistance please stop by the Camp office for a scholarship application. Your application must be submitted at the time of registration with proof of income. Application must be completed in its entirety and turned in by April 30th for consideration.
