rom Virginia’s horse country to Vieques where the
horses roam free–a natural landing place for Elizabeth Buyrn and her Esperanza Riding Company.
“I could not believe my eyes when I first arrived
on Vieques. I had been around horses all my life
and here they are, roaming around the island in a

totally different horse culture from my
childhood in Virginia where horses are
corralled and pampered.” It was not
long before this young entrepreneur put
it all together and now runs her horse
riding company on fifty acres of waterfront pasture. “I take everyone from
first timers to experienced riders and
we explore parts of Vieques you will
never see from your car or jeep,” says
Ms. Buyrn. “Our two hour guided trail
hikes loop around to show the wilder
side of the Vieques landscape thru arroyos, hilltops with sweeping views of
the water, and of course we always try
to get a beach ride in there.”
