Each year, we work with hundreds of volunteers to restore natural resources, provide quality environmental education programs, and expand public access opportunities throughout the watershed. This year, hundreds of middle school students will participate in the Saugus River Watershed Council’s free environmental education programs operated in partnership with New England Discovery. Through field exploration, classroom projects, and hands-on science, students will learn about the relationship between climate change and local environmental conditions, and their role in protecting the natural resources of the watershed. During 2012, we will continue to protect and restore the rivers, lakes, wetlands and wildlife of the watershed. Our priorities include improving water quality, restoring historic fisheries such as rainbow smelt, educating youths, and expanding public access to the natural resources of the watershed. The Saugus River watershed stretches from Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield to the Lynn Harbor/ Saugus River estuary, encompassing all or part of the following eleven communities -- Saugus, Wakefield, Lynn, Revere, Lynnfield, Malden, Melrose, Reading, Everett, Peabody and Stoneham.
