Each class is 30 minutes. Sessions are offered morning and evenings. Check for times. Sign-ups begin May 28 at the Community Center. Pool available on Sundays for private rentals! Teddy Pohler Memorial Pool Open June 9th–August 15th · 1414 Colusa Street, Corning Camp in the Park Class cost: $50.00 for all three classes. Students receive wood-crafted beginning tying tool box and supplies for class. “Geom-Art,” (Art lessons based on geometric principles) Taught by Anne Keeler Three classes offered for ages 10–14 / Time: 10:00–11:30am June 17th: Geom-Art (The Color Wheel) using geometry to create art. Students will create their own original color wheel. June 24th: Geom-Art (Tesselations) using geometry to create art. Students will create their own original tessellation patterns. Camp in Cabins at Manzanita Lake Twenty new cabins can accommodate up to eight people. 1-room, 2-room and bunk cabins rent for $63 or $89 and are available 5/23 to 10/13. Students will use reflections to complete a mixed media art piece. Single and double kayaks are available at the Manzanita Lake Camper Store, to rent between 10am and 4pm on a first-come, first-serve basis. Rates begin at $15 for 1 hour or $25 for 2 hours Advance registration is requested. Geom-Art classes are $10 per class or $8/class if you sign up for all three. With over 150 miles of hiking trails to choose from, your are sure to find the level you and your friends are most comfortable with, from easy to strenuous. Check out the Reach Higher Trail Challenge and FitKid programs to enrich your hiking experience. The park has over 450 camping sites at 8 locations from fairly rustic to RV friendly. Talk to local producers, learn what is grown locally and receive tips on how to prepare fresh fruits and veggies at home. Two-week sessions start June 16 and end August 8th Hike in the Park Students will learn beginning fly tying techniques and each class will offer a unique version. Ask for a Chipmunk Club activity card or Junior Ranger booklet at the Loomis Museum or Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. Special Events at Lassen Ranger-led Programs: June 21 through September 1, 2014 Lassen offers a variety of ranger-led programs to help you discover your national park. Program formats include daytime talks, evening programs, guided hikes, historical reenactments, kids programs, and night sky viewing. A program schedule and descriptions are posted at the Loomis Museum, Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, and park campgrounds. Dark Sky Festival: Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 3, 2014 Join us for this annual event as visitors, park rangers, astronomers, and planetary geologists celebrate all that is out of this world. Special programs, presentations, hikes, and Junior Ranger Night Explorer activities will be offered during the festival. Most of us are looking forward to summer vacation, being outside more often and enjoying some down time. But for students of all ages, summer can also mean losing the academic ground they gained during the school year. You can help your children enjoy summer and stay engaged in learning by keeping them active and taking advantage of what we have in the area. Each week the camp will have a different theme and indoor and outdoor hands-on activities are provided. We recommend wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and closed-toed-heeled shoes for playing, hiking, getting wet, getting dirty, etc. Students will be provided with hats and totes to carry their water bottle and craft projects home. Each player is grouped by age and number of holes of play they are capable of. Great for learning key skills. Starts June 17 – July 29 (six Tuesdays with the week of July 4th off). There will also be a pet adoption day at the library. NOTE: In partnership with the animal shelter. A pennies for pets drive will be ongoing this summer with the proceeds going to the local shelters. Join Barnes and Noble 2014 Summer Reading Challenge Imagination’s Destination A great way for kids to earn a free book by keeping a summer reading journal. Read any eight books and record them in your journal. Include to whom you would recommend each books and why.
