Haunted House Nugget Cake by Lorri Heiling Create with Connie and Mary Holiday Edition 2012 To make the bottom box frame: Cut a 7” x 7” piece of Basic Black cardstock. Score 1” around all 4 sides. Snip corners and fold on score lines to make a box. Cut a 5” x 5” piece of Polka Dot Parade DSP and tape it to the top of the black box. To make the top frame box: This one is the same idea as the box we just made, but this box is going to be slanted so the haunted house sits at an angle ontop. I thought it looked more “haunted” if the house sat crooked. Print page 5 of these instructions onto white cardstock. Cut out the pattern from the white cardstock, and trace onto a sheet of Basic Black cardstock. Score on dotted lines. Fold on score lines so this forms a box. (DO NOT ADHERE THE CORNERS YET!) Cut a 3” x 3” piece of Polka Dot Parade DSP and tape it to the top of the black box. Punch a 1 3/8” Circle in the center of this box. You may have to fold up one edge of the box so the punch will reach to the center. To make the chocolate nugget fence: Cut (30) 1” x 3” pieces of Howlstooth & Scaringbone DSP. Wrap these around Hershey nugget candies. Hot glue the nuggets around the bottom and top boxes. Leave one nugget off the front of the bottom and top box. This will leave room to add a stairway later on. Run this piece through the Big Shot, using the Woodgrain embossing folder. When you run this through, do not run the bottom pieces of the milk carton. We want the bottom to lay flat with no embossing. The Milk Carton die is too large to fit with the Woodgrain embossing folder (vertical lines), so you need to fold a portion of the gray cardstock back as shown. Then run it through a second time, folding the other side of the cardstock back. When you emboss the Milk Carton die with the Woodgrain embossing folder, the score lines will be harder to see. You may have to peek back at the die to see exactly where the score lines are. Punch 1” holes on all the bottom edges of the milk carton die. Use an Xacto knife or scissors and cut (2) windows about 3/4” square as shown. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect, that’s the beauty of a HAUNTED HOUSE! Sponge the haunted house with Basic Black ink. Now you can assemble the milk carton die, folding on the score lines and using sticky strip to adhere it together. Be sure the top of the Milk Carton die is taped shut. To make the roof: Cut out the roof pattern that is on page 5 of this tutorial. Trace that onto Basic Black cardstock, and score on the dotted line. Run the roof through the Big Shot, using the Spider Web embossing folder. Cut out a 1” x 4” piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock. Use the Scallop Edge Punch and scallop one edge. Trim this piece so it’s very narrow as shown. Cut this in half, then glue it to the roof edge. Tape the roof to the haunted house. Haunted House Nugget Cake by Lorri Heiling Create with Connie and Mary Holiday Edition 2012 To make the shingles and door: I didn’t use a pattern for this, because again, it’s a haunted house and it’s ok if it’s not perfect! The rounded door is about 3/4” wide and 1 1/8” tall. I used Sahara Sand cardstock. Add a black brad for a doorknob. Tape to the front of the house. The shutters are about 3/8” wide and 1 1/8” tall. I used Sahara Sand cardstock. Run the door and shutters through the Stripes embossing folder. Ink the edges with Basic Black in, and then tape to the haunted house. Cut out a bat and tape it to the front of the haunted house. Hot glue the haunted house ontop of the top box, so punched circles line up. To make the stairway: Cut a 5” x 1” piece of Sahara Sand cardstock. Score this every 3/8” on the long edge. Only make 12 score lines. Sponge the stairs with Basic Black ink. Tape this to the top box piece, where the missing Hershey Nugget is. The bottom of the stairway will just hang there and flow freely. That way you can still lift the top box to turn the tea light on and off. Notes: Decorate the rest of the haunted house, placing the mummy, Frankenstein, witch, and bat wherever you’d like! Be creative! Set a flickering battery operated tea light on the top box. The holes in the top box and bottom of the haunted house will allow the flickering light to be seen through the haunted house windows. You cannot hot glue the top and bottom boxes together if you want to use a flickering light, because if you did, there would be no way to turn the light on and off. If you don’t want a tea light in there, feel free to hot glue the project together. I hope you have enjoyed this project! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
