Dear Parents
DREAM+ SET GOAL+ EFFORT = SUCCESS
A visit from a former student of BPS has inspired our Stage 3 students to think about pursuing their
dreams, setting goals for themselves and linking effort with success. Sixteen year old Jason Sangha, who
started at Biddabah in 2009 in Year 3 and graduated from Year 6 in 2011, returned to his old primary
school to share his recent success in Cricket. Jason had a dream to play for Australia from an early age
and through persistent effort and focus with training, he has in the past year been selected and has
played in the Australian Under 16’s and Under 19’s ICC World Cup team. He has now got two baggy
green hats to wear! Jason also plays for NSW Futures League team and Sydney First grade.
Jason told his story of persistence, being resilient and having to be well organised on his way to success.
He also spoke about believing in yourself and being confident. Jason has developed strong friendships
with his team mates, officials and the media. His sponsors, highly respected cricket officials and
ex-players speak highly of Jason’s attitude and focus.
Stage 3 students were very interested in hearing of his journey so far. They were also very aware of the
support family plays in providing experiences for their children.
Good Luck for your future endeavours and thank you for sharing your story.

by a car at Warners Bay and passed away from the sustained

The petition is in the school office if you would like to sign it.
National reconciliation week will celebrate the rich culture
and history of the first Australians. During this Week, Lake
Macquarie City Council is hosting a FREE FILM night featuring
an incredible journey of Aboriginal Culture filmed over 10
years on our Country. It is hoping to encourage all

2016 CHESS TEAM
SPORT NEWS
On Monday, Biddabah’s chess team travelled to Avondale
Primary School to compete in the
New South Wales Junior Chess League
Competition. Schools attending this event
included Avondale, Barnsley, Charlton
Christian College, St Mary’s and Cooranbong. We enjoyed
many games of chess on the day, made some new friends and
learnt lots of new strategies and chess moves. Our Knights and
Rookies teams performed quite well and we look forward to
completing the competition next semester. Biddabah Public
School would like to thank Mr Graham Head for organising the
event and allowing us to come and play chess at Avondale
School. I would also like to thank the parents who assisted
with transport and came to watch us play.

Mrs McEwan
Hairspray is a Broadway musical which focuses on the
integration of African-Americans with Caucasians. The story is
about a regular teenage girl called Tracy Turnblad who lives in
the town of Baltimore in the USA. Tracy gets a spot on her
favourite TV show which then causes a big debate about the
integration of black and white people. Some
students here at Biddabah have auditioned for parts in the
musical, through a Newcastle based Production company
called, Harvest Rain. The Biddabah students’ gaining a role in
the musical are: Liam Kneller, Jordan Parsons, Abbey Flynn,
Maya Warburton, Sophie Rafferty, Nicola Mitchell and Mia
Adams.
We are looking forward to taking part in the musical and
having lots of fun!

students, their families and our local community. Our collective
vision is the education of our students to support a sustainable
and healthy environment both now and in the future. The ways
in which we plan to achieve this is unfolding at each meeting, as
people contribute ideas, make offers and volunteer time. Our
group is growing each week and if you would like to become
involved you are welcome to come along.
We will be holding this month’s meeting on Wednesday the 1st
of June at 8:30 am in Ms Filipcevic (KF) classroom.
GARDEN CLUB
Students are welcome to come and
participate in the Garden Club

Plastic Police Partnership Pilot Trial Update
Since the trial started in the 2nd half of 2015 over 500kg (1/2tonne) of
soft plastic packaging has been diverted from landfill.
This equates to approximately 125,000 pieces of plastic and if placed end
to end would stretch out for 31kms.
There has been a steady increase in engagement from the school community (students, parents and staff).
The Program is gaining interest support from Newcastle City
Council, Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH).
Cross Connections appreciates the support from the Biddabah School
Community for their support to date in this innovative community
engagement and recycling program for a material not currently able
to be recycled through current kerbside recycling systems. A special thanks to Garth ,
Reece, Jess and Julie in the office along with Carla Morrison, Alex Knight, Melissa McEwan,
Jade Filipcevic, Josie Minett and Graeme Mason who have had direct interaction with the
program (and to others that may have contributed along the way).
It’s been amazing to see the support and the outcomes being achieved .
