2016 SPRING CONCERT OF DANCE INFORMATION PACKET With preparations for the Spring Concert of Dance in the air, it is an exciting time of year here at MPA!!! Most classes have started learning their choreography and costume orders will start to trickle in. It is important to us here at MPA to stay organized to make the Spring Concert a success. Please help us in doing this by reading over the following information carefully. Performance: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • The Spring Concert is on Saturday, May 28th with three performances; 11:00 AM, 2:30 PM, and 6:00 PM at the Waunakee Performing Arts Center, 301 Community Drive Waunakee, WI. Please refer to pages 5-6 for your show assignments. DOUBLE CHECK all costumes, undergarments, tights, accessories, and shoes before you leave home (Put your name on all your items as well). This is your big day! Please make sure you are prepared for your show, this includes your costuming. ARRIVE 1 HOUR (pre-dance division 30 minutes) prior to your show time with hair and make-up done. You will check in at the stage right hallway. Do not leave the theater once you arrive. All dancers are to remain backstage throughout the whole show. There will be a bow at the end of each half of the performance. Pre-Dance Division that are only in the first half of the show can check out and leave, or if you purchased a ticket you can go sit in the audience after the first half is complete. Upon arrival, place costumes and dance bags in assigned dressing rooms. This is where you will change and wait during the show. If you have a quick change (less than 3 dances between numbers), please find an MPA instructor to help you set up in the quick change area. All other changes will be made in the dressing rooms. There will be runners taking the students to and from stage and dressing room. Dancers make sure that once you perform each dance, you return to the dressing rooms to get ready quickly for your next number. Parents are allowed backstage to drop off their dancer and get them set up before the show, not during. We ask that once the performance begins, that parents remain in their seats for the whole show. It is extremely disruptive to the dancers and other audience members if people are standing/sitting and entering/exiting during the performance. Only assigned parent volunteers and parents dropping off/picking up dancers are allowed in the backstage area, dressing rooms, and hallway. Dancers may greet family members and friends in the front lobby after the shows. NO EATING OR DRINKING IN COSTUME. NO EATING OR DRINKING IN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER. Eat before you arrive. You need all the energy you can get for your time on stage! If you are in more than one show and are staying at the theater in between, please eat in the High School Commons area. DOUBLE CHECK all costumes, undergarments, tights, accessories, and shoes before you leave the theater. Take everything home with you. MPA and the Performing Arts Center are not responsible for lost items. Be respectful of our host theater. Clean up after yourself. 1 Photo Days: • • • • • • • Photo Days will be held at MPA studios May 22- 26. All dancers are to arrive at MPA in their first costume with hair and make-up complete. All dancers are to arrive with their photo order forms completed and payment ready. Forms are included on page 11 and 12 of this packet. The dancer must present this form upon entering the room for their photo. Each dance you wish to purchase photos for needs its own form. Please fill out form completely including the name of the dance. You can find the title of each dance on the schedule of events page in this packet. Photos will be taken and dancers will practice their dance following the photo. Please refer to pages 5-6 for your photo schedule assignments. Dress Rehearsal: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Dress Rehearsals will be held May 26th and 27th at Waunakee Performing Arts Center, 301 Community Drive Waunakee, WI. Please refer to pages 5-6 for your dress rehearsal schedule assignments. ARRIVE 20 MINUTES prior to your rehearsal time with hair and make-up done. We are planning to run on time. THE TIME ON THE DRESS REHEARSAL LIST IS THE TIME YOU ARE ON STAGE...If you are late; you have missed your rehearsal! Do not leave the theater once you arrive. When your 10 minutes of stage time for all of your dances is complete, you are then dismissed. Upon arrival, place costumes and dance bags in assigned dressing rooms. This is where you will change for each piece. Dancers are to find their way to the stage one piece before theirs (10 Minutes before your time slot). There will be runners helping you with this. If you have more than one dance, be aware of your costume changes and be ready for each rehearsal time. If you are not backstage the piece before yours, you might miss your rehearsal! Parents will be permitted to help their dancer at dress rehearsal. Parent volunteers only will be permitted backstage and in dressing rooms during the performances. Dancers and Parents are permitted to wait quietly in the audience or dressing room area during the dress rehearsal. DOUBLE CHECK all costumes, undergarments, tights, accessories, and shoes before you leave home (Put your name on all your items as well). This is your dress rehearsal to make sure you are prepared for your show, this includes your costuming. Eat before you arrive. You need all the energy you can get for your time on stage! NO EATING OR DRINKING IN COSTUME. NO EATING OR DRINKING IN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER. It is going to be a long night, pack a snack and please eat it in the High School Commons area. DOUBLE CHECK all costumes, undergarments, tights, accessories, and shoes before you leave the theater. Take everything home with you and bring it back for the show. Be respectful of our host theater. Clean up after yourself. 2 Costume fitting and pick up: • • • • • • • Starting in January we will begin trying costumes on during class time as they come in. You will receive an email stating the date that your costume is in and on this date the students will try on costumes in class to ensure a proper fit. Attendance to this class is very important. If you are unable to pick up your costumes during these scheduled times, please contact the MPA office to set up a time to pick up your student’s costumes. If slight alterations need to be made, costumes will be labeled as such and it will be the student/parents responsibility to take care of these alterations. When all students in the class have tried on the costume, the costumes will be available for pick up. A parent signature will be required at time of pick up. No costumes will be passed out without this signature. Please refer to pages 9-10 for tights, shoes, undergarments, and hair requirements. Please make note of these requirements and make sure you have all items prior to Photo Days and Dress Rehearsal. o Rosy Cheeks will also have this list for you to refer to for purchases. o MPA Hip Hop Shoes- Miss Jessica and AJ have chosen a shoe that will be the “MPA Hip Hop Shoe!” This will be the shoe that we use for the Spring Concert each year and can also be used in classes as well. Make sure to get all layers. o Double check all costumes and accessories and label them with your name before you head to the theater. Make-up and Hair: • Please refer to pages 9-10 for make-up and hair guidelines. Spring Concert Tickets: • • • • • For the convenience of our customers, we will once again use online ticketing. The website to purchase tickets is, https://21424.recitalticketing.com/ Tickets will go on sale for the Spring Concert at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 9, 2016. We request that each family to purchase a minimum of 4 tickets to the show of their choice. There will be no limit on the amount of tickets you can purchase this year. The students are split into three performances and there will be plenty of tickets available for each show. Tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis. The sooner you purchase your tickets, the more choice you will have as to where your seating will be. 3 Spring Concert Parent Volunteers: We are asking parents to help us by signing up for a volunteer position (or 2!) for the Spring Concert Performances. The sign up sheets will be at the front desk of the studio starting Monday, April 4th. Here is a list of what we will need to make the concerts go as smoothly as possible. Dot primer on the forehead, cheeks and chin. Blend out so the entire face is covered with a layer of primer. Allow primer to soak in. Primer creates a barrier that prolongs makeup and makes it appear fresh longer. Apply foundation. Dot foundation in the same areas as Step 1 and blend out. A tinted moisturizer or lightweight foundation should do the trick for young girls as they seldom have flawed skin. If there are under-eye circles, pat concealer on them for additional coverage. Apply eye makeup. Eye makeup is one of the most crucial steps in applying stage makeup. The eyes should pop dramatically so the audience can see a dancer's expression from afar. Dust brown shadow from the eyelid up to the eye crease. Color below the eyebrow with white shadow. Line the upper lash line with black pencil eyeliner. Create short strokes and then connect the "dots" for a pristine line. Use white pencil at outer crease of the eye. Curl eyelashes with lash curler. Apply mascara to lashes. If using faux lashes, you may have to cut lashes in half so they fit a young girl's eyes. Apply lash glue to the faux lashes using a Q-tip and allow glue to reach a tacky consistency (which takes about 10 seconds). Gently apply the faux lash to the lash line and press the lash down using the end of a small makeup brush (the end without bristles). Once lash glue has dried, go over faux and natural lashes with mascara to blend hairs together for a flawless look. Apply blush. Swirl the fluffy blush brush in a pink blush and tap onto the apples of the cheeks. Without picking up additional product, buff blush to create a natural- looking flush without any harsh lines. Apply lip products. Line and fill lips with a lip liner. Apply lipstick and blot with a tissue. Finish with lip-gloss Videos: #1 Older dancers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE_o7766rKE #2 Younger dancers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrRF5fb7nzg&feature=related 7 SPRING CONCERT HAIR GUIDELINES How to make a low Ballet bun with a side part. Things you will need: • Water • Hair spray or hair gel • Bobby pins/Hair pins to match color of hair. • Hair tie to match color of hair. • Hair net to match color of hair. Instructions: 1. Wet hair and part on side of choice about ¾ the way to back of head. 2. Slick back smoothly into a ponytail lined up around the top edge of the ears. Gel and hairspray to help get smooth look and secure any “fly always.” 3. Twist hair and start to wrap it around the ponytail securing with bobby pins and hairpins as you go around. Note: be sure to get a little bit of hair from head and a little from the twisted pony into the pin together. This will help secure. Note: for really thick hair it is helpful to separate hair into two twists, doing one wrap at a time. 4. Take hair net and wrap it around bun to tie in any loose hairs and then bobby pin in the hairnet. 5. Give whole head one final spray. Note: if securing a head piece use bobby pins to help secure and make sure to send your dancer with extras just in case.
