"I know a little place on Captain's Pond where..." on
Sunday, July 15, 2007, we will be celebrating our fourth
Camp Hadar Family Day. All current campers and alumni of
Center Day Camp, JCC Camp and Camp Hadar are invited to
be our guests for a day of swimming, athletics, games, arts
and crafts, music and more! Family Day will be held at the
campsite on Captain's Pond, Salem, NH.

Concert by the Pond with the Di bostoner klezmer
Sunday—July 15, 2007 1:00-2:00pm
As part of Camp Hadar’s Family Day celebration the Merrimack Valley Jewish Federation
presents Di bostoner klezmer in concert on Sunday, July 15, 2007 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM
at Camp Hadar.
Di bostoner klezmer has been playing together since 1997. Their travels around New England
and the mid-Atlantic states has brought them to concert series in parks and towns, and to the
National Yiddish Book Center, museums, and Israel Independence days. They've enjoyed
presenting concerts to young and old in numerous elementary schools, libraries, and residences
for elders and enjoy when people kick up their heels to their music at weddings, Bar/Bat
Mitzvahs, and private parties, religious holiday celebrations like Purim and Simchat Torah.

Camp Hadar is located on 17 acres of scenic woods and sandy beach on Captain’s Pond in Salem,

experience in a Jewish Cultural environment with emphasis placed on personal growth, friendship and fun.

Jonathan Heller, an educator for fourteen years, enters his seventh year as Director.
Mr. Heller is a graduate of Brandeis University and has been involved with camps for over fifteen years
including 3 years as Director at Children’s Island Day Camp in Marblehead, MA and 3 years as Assistant
Director at Camp Simchah in Middleton, MA.

Michelle Soll has been working at Camp Hadar for thirteen years. Her expertise and
love for the camp makes for an enjoyable summer for everyone who attends. Returning campers can’t wait to see
her on their first day as it gives them a great sense of comfort. During the winter months, Michelle works as a
Program Coordinator for the Merrimack Valley Jewish Federation. She has been with the Federation for eleven years.
Camp Staff includes:
A nurse on site, with an on-call physician at our disposal; certified waterfront
staff; specialists and counselors with excellent experience in their field.
A low staff/camper ratio will be maintained for all groups. The ratio allows campers to enjoy a nurturing
environment and fosters social and educational growth. But most of all, your children will have fun and
receive personal attention.
Existing activities that stress honesty, caring, responsibility and respect are the essence of the Camp Hadar
Experience. All summer long campers will strive to shoot a 3 pointer on the basketball court; earn badges
for learned skills in all specialty areas; learn to canoe and kayak; improve swimming skills; learn about the
Jewish Culture; make new friends; and learn new camp songs!
The facilities are attractive and well maintained to provide safe, enjoyable experiences in a rustic outdoor
setting. All equipment necessary for a quality camping program is provided. Facilities and equipment include:
lodges for indoor activities, arts and crafts building, group cabins, tennis and basketball courts, playing fields,
canoes and paddle boats, kayaks, campfire grounds and playground.

Transportation by bus from centrally located points in Andover, Haverhill, Chelmsford,
Merrimack, Manchester and Windham is included in the camp fee. Pick up is
between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. Drop off is between 4:30 and 5:00 PM. Exact times
may vary according to proximity to camp.

All campers should bring a dairy lunch with a beverage each day. The camp will
provide an afternoon snack and beverage.
Sunscreen, bathing suit, towel, baseball cap, sweatshirt and rain gear.

Campers are divided into
4 age appropriate units:
ARAVA - 4 and 5 year olds
NEGEV - 1st and 2nd grades
SHARON - 3rd and 4th grades
GALIL - 5th and 6th grades

Arava campers have a choice of a 3 day (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and 5 day (Monday thru Friday)
option. Campers in each unit will participate in all daily activities and special days. A Parent/Camper lunch will
be held for all campers during the 1st and 4th sessions. Family Nights will be held for all campers during 2nd
and 3rd sessions. Overnights during the 2nd and 3rd sessions of camp will be offered to campers in Sharon,
Galil, Teen Leaders and CITs. One day trip per session will be offered to campers in the Galil unit.
Daily Programming
• Waterfront activities: Red Cross swimming instruction
program, free swim, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boats
• Sporting activities: softball, basketball, tennis, street
hockey, volleyball, soccer, and “new games”
• Arts and Humanities: Music program, crafts, dance,
drama and performing artists encouraging children to
explore and find their hidden talents
• Judaic Culture: Jewish songs and storytelling, Israeli
dance, Oneg Shabbat, Israel Day and holiday celebrations

Teen Leaders Program
Overview: Teen Leaders Adventure Camp is for campers entering 7th and 8th grades as of September 2007.
This program will encourage the development of leadership skills through outdoor education with an emphasis
on activities that promote self-worth, respect, cooperation, teamwork and fun. Campers will also participate in
daily programming.
Daily Programming
• Campers must be entering the 7 th & 8 th grades
• Participate in Camp Hadar daily programming
• Specialized daily training enabling campers to become
strong & effective leaders through cooperative & outward
bound activities emphasizing teamwork, respect, trust,
and communication
• Campers will be taught basic skills including basic first
aid, survival and navigational skills which foster respect
and understanding of the environment.
• Day trips and Community Service
• 2 night/3 day camping trip (session II, Newport, RI
and session IV, Portland, ME)

2 YEAR - Counselor in Training Program
Overview: To enable teens in the 9th and 10th grades to bridge the gap between camper and staff AND
become strong, effective camp counselors.
C.I.T. Director: Stefan Boroda returns to Camp Hadar for his 10th summer, 4th as C.I.T. Director. A senior at the
University of Massachusetts, Stefan is pursuing a degree in Child Development and Education Administration, a
major of his own design. Stefan has previously held the positions of Winter Camp Program Co-Coordinator; Junior,
Senior and Bus Counselor; AND has served as a Staff Mentor at Hadar.
Junior C.I.T. - entering 9th grade
Senior C.I.T. - entering 10th grade
• 4 and 8 week training sessions for campers
entering the 9th grade.
• 2 day orientation (weeks 1 and 5)
Establish teamwork, cooperation, respect, trust &
effective communication. Develop leadership skills
through discussions & role-playing. Develop programming skills. Establish the role and responsibility of C.I.T.
• C.I.T. Internship (weeks 2-4 & 6-8)
Weekly placement with Senior Counselors and/or
Specialists. Participation in all aspects of assigned
group’s schedule. Daily meetings for group discussion
and continued training. Implement and evaluate a
special program for assigned weekly internship.
Weekly evaluation and self-evaluation.
• Overnights
• 4 and 8 week training sessions for campers
entering 10th grade.
• Designed for graduates of Jr. C.I.T. program.
• Develop responsibility, decision-making, and teamwork
through continued training. Assist in supervision of
campers. Attend ALL staff training & evaluated by the
C.I.T. Director. Participation in planning and running a
meaningful community service project to benefit a
worthy organization to be determined by the Senior CITs.
• ALL candidates must apply for position of Sr. C.I.T., have
a formal interview, complete 10 hours of community
service, and gather 2 community references.

Our Workshops Program offers unique enrichment experiences for all our campers who want to pursue a special
interest, explore something new, or enjoy engaging activities in water, sports, arts, music and sciences. All workshops emphasize investigation, discovery, and creativity in a fun camp environment. A description of our 2007
workshops are listed below. To choose your 2007 workshops, please complete the workshop registration form
on the back of the camper registration form.
Baby Sitting Course
A day at Camp Hadar!
In this course you will learn:
Leadership: How do you have fun with the kids--but stay
in control? Find out the best ways to negotiate, settle
arguments, and encourage positive behavior. Basic Care:
Feeding and diaper changing can be kind of messy. Learn
how to handle these situations, and other babysitting basics,
like a pro! STOP! Think Safety. Learn how to find a safetyrelated problem, remove or limit it, then report it.
Safety and Safe Play: Recognize how to guide children in
safe play. Learn to choose toys and activities that are
age-appropriate and safe. Basic First Aid: Every babysitter
needs to know what to do if an accident happens. Get
straightforward advice on how to manage everything from
scrapes and bruises to life-threatening emergencies
American Red Cross
First Aid Training and Certification
The American Red Cross First Aid program is designed to
give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation
with skills that can save a life.
Covering the Bases
In this workshop you will practice the skills of tennis,
baseball, wiffleball, and kickball. Learn the skills while
you practice and play the games!
Dance Party
All Star Sports
All Star Sports focuses on both team and individual sports.
You will play games in soccer, basketball, flag football, capture the flag, hockey, volleyball, tennis-baseball, and more!

There's a crazy Dance Party going on at Camp Hadar and you
are invited! Come learn some awesome dance moves and
learn a choreographed routine that you will perform for the
camp. Grab your dancing shoes and come have a ball.

Learn how to make fishing rods and then sit back, relax,
and fish in our beautiful Captain's Pond! Maybe you'll even
bring home your evening meal!
Learn the basics of tennis as you play some games of
singles and doubles AND watch your skills improve each day!
Legacy Basketball
The clock is ticking...down by 1...you have only enough time
to make one last play...you fake to the right...turn to the basket...shoot the ball...it soars through the air...and it's?
Develop the process of highlighting the best part of your photographs and then capture your thoughts and feelings in a
book that will be treasured through the generations. Learn
simple techniques for sorting, cropping, and writing about
your favorite pictures.
Find out as you as you focus on basic skills and learn how
to shoot, dribble, and play like the pros!
Just Jewelry
Friends Forever
Want a unique way to remember your friends? Tired of boring picture frames, lockets and charms? Come and experience the fun of friendship with your Camp Hadar friends and
counselors! You'll learn new ways of celebrating your
friendships with jewelry, friendship trees and other crafts,
and you and your friends will always remember your summer
at Camp Hadar.
If making jewelry is your thing, then this workshop is right for
you! Come and make friendship bracelets, bead necklaces,
and more! Learn different patterns that you you can make.
Come and make some jewelry for your friends, parents, and
all your family because these will last forever!
Showtime
Sign Language
This workshop will teach you the basics of American Sign
Language. You'll learn the sign the alphabet and some common words that will allow you to "speak" another language.
The stage is waiting for you at Camp Hadar where the stars
are shining and YOU are among them! Showtime is a dramabased program featuring scene and monologue work, improvisation, arts and crafts, dance, and theater game techniques.
Lacrosse
Fun with Food
If you're interested in food,
this is the workshop for you!
Campers will learn skills that are necessary when
preparing food. They will be able to prepare and enjoy
sweet treats that they'll make themselves.
Ever want to try out the sport that is sweeping the nation?
Now you can! Larcosse is quickly becoming one of the most
popular youth sports and now you can learn the rules and
fundamentals to become a great lacrosse player!
Ultimate Frisbee
World Cup Soccer
Attention all frisbee fans...get ready to play the game of
Ultimate Frisbee! In this workshop, you'll learn all the basic
skills of Ultimate Frisbee. Practice the skills each day as
you prepare to compete against each other for the ultimate
championship game!
Will it be France and Italy vying against each other for
the glory of winning the World Cup? Or perhaps it will be
England and USA? Learn all the ins and outs of playing
soccer and then compete to see who wins the
"Camp Hadar Cup"!

Registration
A $100 deposit by check per camper must accompany each application, of which $50 is a nonrefundable processing
fee in the event of cancellation. The entire deposit is forfeited after April 15, 2007.

The balance of the camp fee is due by May 1, 2007 and may be paid
by check or credit card.
Applications after May 1st must be accompanied by full payment.
No refunds or cancellations after June 1, 2007.
Mastercard and Visa accepted for
camp balances or payment in full!
Completed medical forms and proof of medical insurance coverage are due no later than May 1, 2007 and are
required before your child may attend camp.
Applications will be processed in the order they are received and confirmation for pre-registrations will be sent.

Additional one week sessions available upon request with a minumum registration of a 2 week session.
ALL camper forms and full payment MUST be submitted to Camp Hadar prior to the camper beginning their first
session. Two business days are required to process all camper forms and payments before a camper may begin
their first session. No refunds for missed days of camp due to late forms or payments.

Camp Hadar strives to serve all people regardless of their ability to pay. A Financial Aid Application is available upon request.
