He was also an assistant coach at RIC in 2002-03. In 2012-13, the RIC sent two gymnasts to the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships. The Anchorwomen also posted their highest point total in a match (175.650) at the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, which was the program's best score in four years. Nannig started the Anchorwomen women's gymnastics program on the road to recovery in 2011-12 and was named the ECAC Women's Gymnastics Coach of the Year as two RIC gymnasts qualified for the NCGA Championships. During Nannig's previous tenure guiding the program, four gymnasts qualified for the NCGA Championships. Nannig has an extensive career in coaching, which spans 30 years. He served as the Director of Boys’ Gymnastics at Aim High Academy in East Greenwich for six years. He has extensive experience in camp coaching, first at URI’s summer gymnastics camp, having worked there from 1995-2001, and then at the Woodward Camp in Pennsylvania for two sessions. Nannig also served as the owner and head coach of the North Kingstown Gymnastics Center from 1982-87. He previously served as the gymnastics coach at Kingston Dance & Gymnastics from 1981-1982. Nannig received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Springfield College in 1981. While at Springfield, he lettered in gymnastics from 197780. He earned a master’s degree in physical education administration from the University of Rhode Island in 1999. In addition to his coaching duties, Nannig also works as a physical education teacher at Cranston High School West and has taught in the school system for 25 years. He was honored as the R.I.A.H.P.E.R.D. Secondary Education Teacher of the Year in 2002. Nannig lives in North Kingstown, Rhode Island with his wife JoAnn. They have two daughters Haley (20) and Jade (26). 3 Meet the Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Nicole Tomaselli Nicole Tomaselli ’09 begins her third season as the assistant women’s gymnastics coach. She will assist Head Coach Bob Nannig with all phases of the RIC women’s gymnastics program, including recruiting, scouting, administering practice and meet coaching. “I have known Nicole for many years and have always been impressed with her infectious enthusiasm,” Nannig said. “Nicole is always full of energy and is eager to improve. Her experiences at RIC, both in the gym and in the classroom, will be an asset to our program. I know this quality will contribute to our efforts to reestablish RIC gymnastics as a competitive member of the ECAC.” As a senior in 2008-09, the Cranston, R.I. native averaged scores of 8.725 on vault, 7.740 on bars, 7.450 on beam and 8.992 on floor for the Anchorwomen. She posted season-high marks of 9.175 on vault vs. West Chester/Wilson on Mar. 1, 8.650 on bars vs. Wilson on Feb. 14, 7.450 on beam vs. West Chester on Jan. 16 and 9.075 on floor vs. Bridgeport on Feb. 21. As a junior in 2007-08, she averaged scores of 8.523 on vault, 7.145 on bars, 7.805 on beam, 8.583 on floor and 32.055 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 8.950 on vault and 8.850 on beam at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 15, 8.300 on bars and 34.050 in the all-around vs. Wilson on Feb. 23 and 8.950 on floor vs. Brown/MIT on Jan. 13. As a sophomore in 2006-07, Tomaselli was primarily a bars specialist, averaging a score of 6.530 on that event for the season. Tomaselli competed once in the all-around at the West Chester quad-meet on Jan. 14, recording scores of 8.450 on vault, 5.350 on bars, 7.525 on beam, 7.850 on floor and 29.175 in the all-around. She posted a season-high mark of 7.900 on bars vs. the University of Rhode Island on Feb. 2. As a freshman in 2004-05, she averaged a score of 7.900 on vault. She recorded a season-high score of 7.950 on vault vs. West Chester on Mar. 12. Tomaselli earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rhode Island College in 2009. She is a 2004 graduate of Cranston High School West. While at RIC, Tomaselli coached at Woodward Gymnastics Camp and International Gymnastics Camp.
