Fire Department The City of Fremont Fire Department is nationally recognized for excellence. Firefighter/Paramedic (Lateral) The Firefighter/Paramedic (Lateral) will perform first responder Advanced Life Support in a prehospital emergency care setting and provide emergency medical assistance to victims of accidents, injuries or illness; participate in fire suppression, fire prevention and fire administration activities; respond to fires, hazardous material and rescue emergencies; maintain, test and operate tools and equipment; perform fire station maintenance; drill and train; participate in public relations activities; and perform related duties as required. Qualifications and Skills Compensation and Benefits Highly Desirable Two (2) years experience as a full-time, paid firefighter-paramedic with a federal, state or municipal fire department within the state of California or completion of a firefighter I academy and continuous employment since graduation as a firefighterparamedic in a federal, state or municipal fire department within California. Current accreditation as a paramedic in the County in which the applicant is now employed. The annual salary is $76,384 - $92,835 depending on qualifications. Current benefit features include: 3% @ 50 public employment retirement (CalPERS) package; the 9% employee-paid portion of the CalPERS retirement contribution is tax-deferred; five years to vest Cafeteria Benefit Plan for employees/dependents that includes medical, dental and vision plans; child care and medical expenses can be paid with pre-tax dollars Annual vacation of 158 hours for years 1 through 5, increasing to a maximum of 295 hours after 20 years 144 hours of holiday pay, with pay out options City paid life, accidental death and dependent insurance; supplemental life insurance coverage is optional Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan The probationary period for this IAFF represented position is twenty-four (24) months. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of six (6) months experience as an Advanced Life Support provider California Paramedic License Current certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS or PEPP), and Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) or equivalent required at time of background investigation Alameda County Paramedic Accreditation by the completion of the City of Fremont EMS Preceptor Program Ability to obtain a California State Accredited Firefighter I certificate within the first year Ability to obtain a California State Accredited Firefighter II certificate and complete the Fremont Fire department acting Engineer program by the end of the probationary period Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California Driver’s License by time of appointment Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class B California Driver’s License with tank endorsement by the completion of probation Vision requirements: Not less than 20/100 in each eye correctable to not less than 20/30 in each eye with glasses, without functional color-blindness or impairment. Limitations in the field of vision may be disqualifying.
