DOUG BODEY, Director of High School Programs ~ The following is the 2014-2015 Master Calendar Draft Version 1. We would like for you to consider this calendar for adoption in March. You will receive a hard copy at the next Board Meeting. Toby Prinsen (Automated Manufacturing Technology Instructor)/Advisor of the Year Award: What a nice honor for Toby and Apollo Career Center! Kyley Fleeger, an Automated Manufacturing Technology junior from Shawnee, drawing a car in Inventor. Justin Hunnaman, a Building Maintenance junior from Allen East, is finishing a barn door. Cosmetology seniors, Angelina Mitchell (Elida/Home Schooled) and Meranda Scott (Columbus Grove) are doing a wash and set. Board Member Todd and Julie Hager receiving a hand and arm massage in Cosmetology at the ApolloPalooza. RICK TURNER, Director of Adult Education Programs ~ You could feel the love in our adult Medical Assisting class as students conducted a Pediatric Clinic. The students practiced taking pediatric vital signs and measurements in preparation for their spring practicums (if spring arrives this year!). It was a busy evening in our Machining Processes I and II. Directly below a student is practicing his skills on a manual mill. To the right and below students are working on manual lathes. Two of the most in-demand occupations right now are CNC Programming and Operating. The pictures above show our students working on the programming aspect of the course while the mill pictured to the left is running the CNC program the student executed. Adult Education is receiving countless calls on a weekly basis looking for Apollo CNC graduates for hire. Students can obtain a short-term certificate in these courses and get back to work quickly. Above, our Electrical Safety and Schematics class listens intently. The gift of a second language is taught to students who seek to learn. We look forward every day to giving our ESOL students the tools to succeed personally and professionally. Thanks to Mother Nature this is what our parking lot has looked like frequently over the last few weeks, but students and managers are being adaptable making sure we are right back on track. The Apollo Special Education Coordinators (Carla Gilroy and Ross Kantner) have taken the computerized career assessment process on the road. This picture was taken at Perry High School and instead of bringing 9th grade IEP students to Apollo for testing, it is now possible, through technology, to make it very efficient and convenient to do this at all home schools. This was the trial year for such, and the change has been very well received. The data from this assessment is useful for overall career guidance, future programs to visit at 411 Blast, and for data needed in the student’s IEP. This will allow us to utilize the new wireless network as we move back into renovated/new areas, yet defer purchasing co-funded, new wireless access points until the project nears completion (perhaps over two years). This will provide the district with the latest version of wireless technology possible. This arrangement has been blessed by OFCC. We are working with NOACSC on the details and timings right now. DANA DUKES-NORTON, District Communications Manager • ApolloPalooza was well attended considering the sub-zero temperatures. I will have actual numbers for you on the next board report as we are still tallying the registration forms. • Interviews with Clear Channel’s Mike Miller were set up with Jamie Buell who spoke about 411Blast and upcoming enrollment. I promoted ApolloPalooza, and prior to that Carrie spoke about Culinary Arts and the Garden Café. • Facebook and Instagram have been experiencing extra traffic with 411Blast and ApolloPalooza. Apollo currently has 4,300 likes. • Continued regular activities including press releases, photos, and spiritwear sales.
