1.0 Introduction
The ‘WSMB Mobile Robotics Storage System’ task requires Competitors to:
Design/Fabricate/Manage (Program)/Troubleshoot a Mobile Robot that is capable
of fulfilling orders in a future Automated Customer Service Department
2.0 Description of Test Project and Tasks
Prior to coming to Pre-WSMB Mobile Robotics, Competitors will:
1. Familiarise with the WSMB Mobile Robot; capable of functioning in 100% Autonomous
Control Mode.
Note:
If a Competitor’s Robot Design requires Active Robot to Laptop Communication while a
Task Evaluation Run is in progress then it will be a 100% Competitor Responsibility to
provide and manage this process. There will be NO WIFI-support available on the
Court.
2. Check their Robot to component kit level prior to shipping it to CIAST.
Note:
Competitors Competition Day-1 morning activity will be, within a Maximum of Two
Hours, to check their Robot and create a set of basic programmes suitable for
demonstrating their Robot’s Core Performance Capabilities.
This activity is also intended for Competitors to check whether all components,
assembly parts, wires and tools are available and to check whether individual parts
(like motors, sensors, and control unit) are still functioning after shipping.

The layout of the competition area will consist of:
a) Two courts side-by-side as shown in the figure below.
b) Each court will consist of :
-
a product storage cabinet, with 9 slots to store 9 individual products.
-
a customer storage cabinet, with 9 slots to store 9 individual products.
-
Mobile robot starting position.
-
Obstacle between the product storage cabinet and the customer storage cabinet
-
Floor storage tape marking for placing 9 products on the floor.
c) Competitor only access limit markings. Spectators will be given a boundary marking
that they can watch from.

3.0 The ‘WSMB Mobile Robotics Storage System’ Court Elements
The WSMB Mobile Robotics Storage System Floors will be the DEFAULT competition facility
floor as provided by CIAST (likely normal tiling or concrete).
Note: The Court Elements presents several types of Cues. It is a Competitor Decision
to determine which Cues they will utilize when managing their Mobile Robot.
Fixed Position Entities.
The fixed position entities in the court are as follows
-
Product Storage Shelves,
-
Customer Storage Shelves,
-
Mobile Robot Start Position, and
-
Obstacles.
Tape Lines that are aligned with the Centre Point of the Entity they are referencing.

3. The mobile robot will approach the black tape placed at the product storage cabinet
4. The mobile robot will pick up the correct product object from the product storage
cabinet using the line tape as guidance
5. The mobile robot will move away from the product storage cabinet and proceed to
the customer storage cabinet.
6. The mobile robot will avoid any obstacle along its path.
7. The mobile robot will approach the black tape placed at the customer storage cabinet
8. The mobile robot will place the product object into the customer storage cabinet
using the line tape as guidance
9. The mobile robot will move away from the customer storage cabinet and proceed to
the product storage cabinet.
10. Repeat steps 3 – 9 until all the 9 objects has been transferred successfully from the
product storage cabinet to the customer storage cabinet.
11. The total score for the challenge and its best timing will be recorded and agreed by
the competitor and judge.
12. The competitor is given a maximum of 3 Runs for this challenge. The competitor can
request for an abortion of its current run at any time for whatever reason. Once the
competitor is ready a new run will be recorded as in Step 2 above and a new score

teams will compete for the maximum number of products that it is able to collect and place
correct in its storage cabinet. There will be no obstacle placed along the mobile robot path
as this is a challenge between two mobile robots in a field.
The sequence of movement is as follows:
1. The two mobile robots are placed in their own home position and the products are
placed on the floor cell tape.
2. Upon instruction by the judge, the two mobile robot will move from its home position
to start the challenge.
