SUSTAINABLE
To be your trusted source, Vino del Sol must be sustainable. To
achieve that, Vino del Sol only works with wineries that are estategrown, sustainably-farmed, and family-owned.
ESTATE-GROWN
Wine begins in the vineyards, and we believe it is important for wineries to own
and farm their own vines. Every winery Vino del Sol works with directly controls the
majority of the vineyards used to make their wines. This promotes the highest level
of quality control in the vineyards. Farming the same vines in the same terroir year
after year gives a continuity to the wines' style. Estate vineyards also protect our
customers from grape price fluctuations.
SUSTAINABLY-FARMED
All of the wineries in the Vino del Sol portfolio are sustainably farmed. This means
the wines are created in an environmentally-conscious and socially-friendly way,
and that the vineyards can continue to produce grapes indefinitely. The wineries
proudly invest in the long-term employment and care of their workers. For
example, Formation has over 20 employees with 20+ years of employment. Zolo
and Tapiz have achieved the Global G.A.P. (Good Agricultural Practice) certification
and were awarded the Gold Medal for Sustainable Practices at the 2011 Great Wine
Capitals Awards. Gen5 and Criss Cross are certified green by Lodi Rules and use
solar panels and renewable energy. Our wineries go the extra mile to protect the
soil in a sustainable manner: for example, Formation, Tapiz & Zolo create their
compost out of the discarded grape skins and wine solids. Many use natural cover
crops for added nutrients. Lamadrid and Verum use high density plantings to
naturally balance the cluster-per-vine production. Tapiz owns a certified organic
vineyard. The wineries utilize computer-controlled drip irrigation to further
conserve water. Wild South is certified sustainable by Sustainable Winegrowing
New Zealand. All of our Argentine wines are vegan.
FAMILY-OWNED
The wine business is a long-term one. Decisions made in the vineyard today may
not be reflected in the bottle for several years. Corporate management, usually
focused on short-term earnings, is often not conducive to building sustainable wine
brands. This is why all of the Vino del Sol wineries are family operations with a
shared multi-generational vision for a sustainable long-term business. For example,
Gen5 is a joint-venture between Vino del Sol and the LangeTwins winery. The
Lange family has been farming the same land in Lodi for five generations.

PURAMUN
Valle de Uco, Mendoza
Pepe Galante's First Family Project!
.
.
Jose “Pepe” Galante is widely considered the most important
winemaker in Argentina's history. Chief winemaker at Catena
Zapata from 1976 until 2010, Pepe showed the world that
Argentina could make world-class wines. Puramun is Pepe's
first-ever personal project owned by his family.
Puramun means both “harvest” and “search” in Mendoza's
indigenous Mapuche language. Each Puramun is a new
challenge. A time for searching and finding. Nothing is the
same, everything changes: the climate, the soil, the grapes,
and even ourselves. Year after year we trek a new road, a
labyrinth of grapevines that express through their precious
fruit our devotion to the Valle de Uco terroir. Each Puramun
bottle is the result of this passionate and endless search.
Puramun Malbec Reserva
93 pts ('13), Wine Advocate; 91 pts ('13), Stephen Tanzer;
95 points ('13), Tim Atkin, MW:

so impressive. This is a typically elegant, subtle Malbec with
notes of red berry fruit, subtle spices, well integrated oak and
silky, palate-caressing tannins.”

TAPIZ
San Pablo, Valle de Uco, Mendoza
“Take Note—This is a Winery to Follow”
-Sommelier Journal
f.
Tapiz is one of the most renowned and awarded Argentine wineries. Winemaker Fabian
Valenzuela was joined by Jean Claude Berrouet in 2012. Jean Claude is the recently-retired
winemaker of Petrus, having presided over 44 vintages at this revered Bordeaux winery. Tapiz is
proud that Jean Claude chose to work with them exclusively in Argentina. To celebrate the
addition of Jean Claude, Tapiz created a new “Alta Collection” line of wines. The “Alta
Collection” fruit comes solely from Tapiz's sustainably-farmed estate San Pablo vineyard in
the Uco Valley. San Pablo is one of the highest altitude vineyards in Mendoza (4,600 feet
above sea level). This extreme altitude provides for warm days which impart concentration
to the grapes, and cold nights which give natural acidity.
Fabian and Jean Claude work together to create a beautiful tapiz (tapestry) between the
wine's unfiltered fruit and its oak aging. These full-bodied yet elegant wines have the
acidity and complexity to drink on their own or complement food. As Restaurant Wine
exclaimed: “Tapiz is a very consistent producer of excellent wines.”

cassis, licorice and herbs.... An extraordinary value.”
Tapiz Chardonnay Alta Collection
90 points ('14), 91 points ('13), James Suckling;
89 points ('13), Wine Advocate.
Hand-picked from our “Alta” San Pablo vineyards located at 1,400
meters above sea level in the Uco Valley. Our Chardonnay is fruitdriven with bright flavors of tropical fruits, creamed pear, and kiwi. The
mouthfeel is ample with hints of minerality. 6 months of oak aging adds
lushness to this beautiful “tapestry.”

Paraje Altamira, Valle de Uco, Mendoza
Discovering Paraje Altamira's Micro-Terroirs
.
Paraje Altamira, with its high altitude (4,000 feet) and
cool microclimate, has become synonymous with worldclass Malbecs. The soils of Paraje Altamira are very
diverse, with patches of sandy, rocky and silty soils
dispersed throughout the vineyard. At the moment of
harvest, each soil profile imparts distinct aromatic and
flavor profiles to the Malbec fruit – floral notes in the
sandy patches, stony minerality in the rocky areas, and
dark fruits in the silty soils. The combination of these
profiles lends excellent complexity to the final wine.
From co-winemakers and co-owners Alejandro “Colo”

floral aromatics are co-fermented with Cabernet Franc; rocky soils with
stony minerality is all Malbec; silty soils for dark fruit profile are cofermented with Petit Verdot for additional structure; a small lot of Petit

ANKO
Los Cardones, Salta, Argentina
The Best Expression of an Exciting Salta Terroir
.
Anko means “high water” in the native Indian
language of Salta, located in the northwest corner of
Argentina. Wine Enthusiast quoted Anko winemaker
Jeff Mausbach as follows: "Salta is a land of extremes
—extreme beauty, extreme altitude, extreme sunlight.
These extremes make for a singular expression of
Malbec—powerful, structured wines with a savory
minerality that is very different from other regions in
Argentina."
In this rugged, mountainous desert, an “Anko,” or
high altitude oasis, was treasured as a precious
sanctuary, protection from the harsh elements of
nature.
Our estate vineyards in Estancia Los Cardones, named for the area's majestic cacti which can
grow as tall as 30 feet, are indeed an oasis amid the surrounding jagged landscape. The
winemakers and co-owners are Jeff Mausbach and Alejandro “Colo” Sejanovich; the other coowners are the Saavedra Azcona family.
Anko Malbec
90 points & Year's Best Argentine Malbec, Wine & Spirits ('14);
91 points & Year's Best Argentine Malbec, Wine & Spirits ('13);
In Los Cardones, Malbec produces a very unique expression. The very
intense sunshine at 5,600' elevation produces concentrated dark fruit flavors.
The cold Andean nights lend floral and sweet spice aromatics. The stony soil
profile provides excellent structure.
Anko Torrontés
90 points, Wine & Spirits ('13); 94 points, Beverage Testing Institute ('12).
Cafayate's intense sunshine and cold andean nights produce a bright,
refreshing style of Torrontés, with intense floral aromatics, citrus fruit
flavors and a stony minerality.
Anko Malbec Flor de Cardon
91 points & Top Wine of Salta, Wine Enthusiast ('12).
93 points & Cellar Selection, Beverage Testing Institute ('11);
Local legend holds that a young Indian princess, escaping through the
desert with her lover, was scratched by the sharp thorns of the Cardon
cactus. Her blood, spilled on the spines, blossomed into beautiful white
flowers. Anko Flor de Cardon Malbec is a rare and noble expression of
Malbec from Estancia Las Cardones.
