Under the direction of Stu Rosenberg, chairman, and Peter Fenzel, co-chairman of the event, the volunteers have been hard at work to make this year’s outing exceptional. New activities and prizes have been added to the traditional line-up and are sure to please even those who feel that their skill level may not be – ahem – up to par! After a day playing at one of America’s most revered courses, join us for an exceptional meal and breathtaking scenery at the Humanitarian Award Dinner at the Tuxedo Club. After dinner you will have an opportunity to participate in raffles and bidding for fantastic auction items. Mr. David Alai This year the Mahwah Chamber honors Mr. David Alai, Corporate Vice President of Sharp Electronics Corporation, as our 2011 Humanitarian of the Year. Mr. Alai is responsible for Corporate Human Resources, Corporate Facilities Management, Corporate Purchasing and Community Relations. Mr. Alai is the recipient of a Joint Legislative Resolution from the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly recognizing his record of community leadership, exemplary volunteerism and professional achievement. As the Golf Outing and Humanitarian Aw a r d Dinner is the Chamber's largest event, each year we ask our honoree to choose a recipient charity. Mr. Alai has chosen The Center for Food Action. Accordingly, the Chamber will donate a portion of the proceeds from this year's Golf Outing to the CFA. Center for Food Action The mission of the Center for Food Action in New Jersey (CFA) is to prevent hunger and homelessness and improve the lives of individuals and families living in poverty. The CFA provides emergency food packages, rental and utility assistance, counseling, advocacy and other essential services to residents of our own community, with an emphasis on providing direct services to local residents. Golf Clinic For the non-golfers, beginners and aspiring golfers, you can learn from the pros at our all-new golf clinic. You will have an extraordinary opportunity to learn basic golf skills from the pros at the Tuxedo Golf Club. Learn to drive, putt and chip. Acquire your own golf swing and learn the rules and etiquette of the game. Golf clubs will be provided for those who do not have their own. The day will include lunch on the course, individual and small group instruction, practice opportunities at the driving range, putting green and chipping area. After your lessons, join the rest of the golfers for cocktails and dinner at the beautiful Tuxedo Club. Prizes Every year the Committee strives to out-do the previous year. This will be especially evident when you walk out onto the greens in September and when you roam around the prize table during the cocktail hour. According to Stu Rosenberg, cont’d on p. 7 GHI HEALTH INSURANCE UPDATE The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with a consortium of Bergen-Passaic chambers to change the law so that small businesses with 1-50 employees could purchase group health insurance through a purchasing alliance with their Chamber of Commerce. All New Jersey chambers are invited to join in a statewide letterwriting campaign that explains to legislators that a vote for bill S2874 is a vote for small business. Saving money on group health insurance could free up capital for hiring new employees, support the economic recovery and encourage more sole-proprietorships. If you own a small business, you won’t want to miss our September 14 multi-chamber networking event held at Blend, 17 Chestnut Ridge Road, Ridgewood, 6 – 8 p.m. Senator Gerald Cardinale will be addressing the bill and available to answer questions. Templates for letters and more information on the campaign are available on the MRCC website: www.mahwah.com. Contact information for Senator Nia Gill is below. It was presented as a result of the five year effort made by museum volunteers to restore and preserve Mahwah’s 1871 Railroad Station and 1929 Erie Caboose. The interior and exterior restoration work has provided the town with a lasting memory of Mahwah’s early railroad days. Over 2,200 people participated in this event! The core purpose of the Mahwah Municipal alliance, or MMA, is to help the youth of Mahwah become great decision makers. To meet this purpose, the MMA has been formed as an organization of community volunteers and local police focusing efforts in three major strategic areas. These include programs and projects related to Personal Courage, Physical and Social Development and General Safety. • Cali financial Services, a Credit/Debt Restoration/REOs (Bank Owned Real Estate Portfolios) company, has recently teamed up with Trustco Bank. They will be working hand in hand with Trustco's clients in need of credit and debt restoration services. This will enable the clients to qualify for lines of credit as well as mortgage loans. CHAMBER EVENTS GOLF OUTING (continued from p. 1) “The spirit of cooperation of those who assist us every year is unfailing and boundless.” Though the list of prizes, auction and raffle items is still growing, we have an amazing line-up of vehicles (and don’t be surprised if an airplane makes it onto this list) that will be on display at the four par-3 holes. Chamber members Liberty Hyundai on Route 17N in Ramsey and Ramsey Auto Group on Route 17S in Ramsey will both be supplying vehicles from their inventory for the lucky golfer who can make a hole-in-one on one of the designated par-3 holes. Radical Motorsports of New Jersey, carrying a diverse line of pre-owned European, Domestic and Exotic automobiles has also committed to sending one of its beautifully restored cars. And over the 17th hole, where the green goes over water, you will see a 24-foot Scout motor boat, complete with a trailer for towing it home, from Lima & Sons Marine! One final comment from the chairman and vice-chair; “If you want to play at one of the oldest and most pristine courses, enjoy spectacular food and support a worthy cause, the Tuxedo Golf Club is the only place to be on September 12th.” Sponsorships There are several ways to participate and contribute to this worthy cause. If you don’t play golf, come for cocktails and dinner. Take advantage of the wide array of sponsorship opportunities like a full Hayakawa Sponsorship for a foursome; put an ad in the commemorative journal; bid on the silent and live auctions; purchase raffle tickets for truly fantastic prizes; donate prizes, or make a tax deductible contribution. Please go to the MRCC website and look under the golf outing tab at the top of the column on the left of the page. There you will find a list of opportunities and the registration forms. ■ Seminars nk Wendi Caplan-Carroll of Constant Contact (above) and Anthony Fasano of Powerful Purpose Associates (below) offered members seminars on Email Marketing and LinkedIn: The Next Step.
