We request that you make available to us your historical pictures of St. Laurence Church at previous stages of its construction, pictures of sacramental events at the Parish including members of your own family, school events, former priests, deacons and religious sisters who have served at St. Laurence. We will not keep your photos. When you bring them in to us, we will take a digital copy and return them to you immediately. Any news articles about the Parish from previous years, would also be a useful addition to the book. Please call Joan Mazur at (484)-433-0022 to arrange a time to meet at the rectory to digitize your pictures, news clipping, or other informational items for the memorial book. 222 Page 4 Saint Maria Goretti & Bishop Neumann Class of 1966 will have a joint 50th Reunion, Friday, October 21, 2016. Through no fault of the worker, jobs are still being eliminated or relocated away from our region. In record numbers, members of our parish community continue to be unemployed or under-employed; meaning they are not working a full work week or earning significantly less than they were accustomed. St Laurence has joined Joseph’s People of Central Delco (Delaware County) to minister to the needs of the un and under-employed. Joseph’s People utilizes experts within the employment and job search arenas who explain job search strategies which will progress the job seeker toward full employment. There is NEVER a fee to attend a Joseph’s People event. Non-parish members are always welcome. Joseph’s People of Central Delco offers three meetings each month. Each meeting begins at 7PM. Meeting locations are: St. Mary Magdalen Church 2400 N. Providence Road Media, PA 19063 Meets 1st Tues. of each month in the St. Francis Room St. Laurence Church 8245 West Chester Pike Upper Darby, PA Meets 2nd Tues. of each month in the Parish Hall (Enter from the rear church parking lot near St. Laurence Road) Media Presbyterian Church 30 E. Baltimore Avenue Media, PA 19063 Meets 3rd Tuesdays of the month in Hassler Chapel For more information about Joseph’s People of Central Delco, contact Ernie Russom at 610-4054818 or attend any of the three monthly meetings. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER Easter Greetings continue as we walk through these weeks of the Easter season. It is a season and not just one day - a season when we should be experiencing the joy of knowing Christ Is Risen and then that should be flowing over into the rest of our lives. During this season, our Confirmandi received the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Confirmation., Bishop Michael Fitzgerald told me personally that he was impressed with our students and how well prepared they were for the sacrament. That was music to my ears. The next sacrament will be First Holy Communion on April 30th. We do everything we can to keep the sacraments solemn. It is our wish that our parents and adults listen to what we ask. As you may know, our Convent has been a Formation Community this past year. Our postulant, Fina Whitmore, and her directress, Sister Mary Glackin, have been sharing Community with us. This week will be their last week with us as they return to our Motherhouse in Immaculata. Our postulant has been observing in our second grade and in our seventh grade this year. She loves our children and they also do in return. It was a great pleasure to see our newest IHM become a part of the Saint Laurence family. We shall miss both Sisters, they added much to our lives. Blessings on all! By your donation, you will be helping all areas of the St. Laurence CYO. HELP YOUR GODCHILD ON THE JOURNEY TO CHRIST God has called all of us to follow him. Yet when we are asked to the Godparents, we are not only called to follow, we are called to lead. Aiding in a child’s spiritual growth is an awesome responsibility but you can teach the importance of our faith in simple ways. Go to Mass. Inviting your Godchild to attend Sunday Mass with you is a great way to spend time together and show commitment to the faith. Send Cards. On the Anniversary of the child’s Baptism each year, send a Birthday Card to celebrate his/her “birth” into the life of Christ. Mark each Sacrament received. Offer lots of attention and support during these Catholic milestones. These are steps on our journey toward Christ. Prayer cards. Promote prayer and a devotion to the Saints by sending an occasional prayer card pertinent to his/her life situation. Reevaluate your role. Being a Godparent doesn’t stop at the Baptism celebration. It is a lifelong commitment. Remember to stay active into your godchild’s adulthood. DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL? The Tribunal is a group of specially qualified Catholics whose responsibility is to come to the help of people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. One is the unbreakableness of the bond of marriage. This is God's law. It cannot be broken by human intervention. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Was this a true marriage? Even though a Catholic marriage was celebrated, was there perhaps some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved? The annulment procedure addresses this problem. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please telephone the Tribunal Office.
