CHAKRA THERAPY
CHAKRA THERAPY A FREE 4-WEEK SERIES TO EMPOWER YOU MARCH 2015 | A JOURNEY TO YOUR SELF | © Pranasacral.com. All rights reserved. WEEK ONE |1 WHAT THEY ARE + WHY YOU SHOULD CARE Ever noticed how a yoga class can leave you feeling clearer and lighter? Or how a deep hip opener can bring up some emotion? This is because yoga is not just about physcial exercise. If you have ever taken a yoga class with me, you will know that I focus more on the experience of creating space in the body, rather than stretching a muscle. Yoga works with the subtle or energy body, helping to move prana, or life force energy, through the body. The subtle body is that part of you that is not your physical body. You cannot see or touch it, but it is part of you. Prana moves through energetic pathways in the body called nadis, similar to the meridians in Chinese medicine where chi flows (although the actual channels are different). © Pranasacral.com. A chakra is literally a ‘wheel’ or vortex; dynamic and always responding and influencing your experience. Chakras both influence and are influenced by our physical, emotional and spiritual experience. Generally, we focus on 7 main chakras that are located along the body’s vertical axis, from root to crown. Remember that we are talking about the subtle body, rather than the physical body. So the chakras are not located on the spine, which develops curves as we learn to crawl and then stand upright. Rather, we talk about an energetic midline that corresponds to the ‘primal streak’ that was formed when you were an embryo. In yogic anatomy, this midline is called the shushumna nadi. © Pranasacral.com. All rights reserved. |4 CHAKRAS CONTD... Source: Sahajapower.com © Pranasacral.com. It corresponds to the feminine (yin) and lunar, cooling principle. Pingala is the right channel. It originates at the root and terminates at the right nostril. Pingala nadi is the yang, warming and solar counterpart to Ida. Ida and Pingala dance their way up the body. You can think of chakras as major 360-degree intersections at the meeting point of the Ida and Pingala nadis. If something gets stuck at one juncture, it’s going to impact the flow of energy or vitality in the whole system. Even if it gets cordoned off, and traffic is redirected, it takes a lot of energy to manage this as it is not part of the natural flow. If a chakra is a little imbalanced or not moving optimally, this will be reflected in physical, emotional or mental symptoms. © Pranasacral.com. In this way, you can tune your body to connect with an area which is expressing challenge, to help you feel more open-hearted, secure or confident. You can also help to calm an area that may be expressing symptoms of hyperarousal, such as anxiety, fear or anger. Over the next three weeks, you will discover the symbolism and elements associated with each chakra. The communication between the cells in your body relies on vibration (see the work of Candace Pert, PhD for more on this), so we will also look at the vibrations of colour and sound evoked by each chakra. As quantum physics reminds us, everything is energy. © Pranasacral.com. All rights reserved. |8 BE WELL www.pranasacral.com
