The answer to last week’s question “What color are Dandelions?” is: Dandelions are yellow. 20 Alden Johnson In transitioning between the PARCC state assessment in the spring of 2015 to the MAP state assessment in the spring of this past year, CES made notable growth in several areas. We are SO PROUD of the growth that our CENTRAL SAILORS are making in academic achievement! Check out the following: Growth in percentage of students ranked as “proficient” and “advanced”: Grade Level / Subject Area PARCC—Spring 2015 MAP—Spring 2016 4th—Reading/L.A. 14.58% 28.30% 5th—Reading/L.A. 20.59% 25.64% 4th—Math 20.83% 30.19% In the Gulfport School District as a whole, the results are amazing...out of 17 school districts in South Mississippi, our elementary students in grades 3, 4, and 5 scored THIRD (3rd) on the coast in math, with NO grade levels scoring below the Mississippi state average! Even more impressive is Gulfport’s ranking for the recently-released 2014-2015 accountability results...out of 17 districts, GSD tied with Ocean Springs for FIRST (1st) PLACE out of the 17 southern school districts in the state.
