Course Programme 2016
Australia & New Zealand
Introduction
Welcome to the Ivoclar Vivadent
Professional Development Course
Programme 2016 - Australia & New Zealand
At Ivoclar Vivadent, our values, strategies, products and services are based on three
success factors: Passion – Vision – Innovation.
In 2016, we have a full programme of local and
International speakers for clinical and technical
courses and workshops in such areas as CAD/
CAM, all-ceramics, composites, implant aesthetics,
removable prosthetics and endodontics.
We understand that there is a multitude of further
education options, so we select our topics and
speakers carefully and believe that we deliver
excellent value for money and cover current, relevant
trends and techniques.
Ivoclar Vivadent offers dentists, dental technicians
and auxiliary staff a programme of high quality
seminars, courses and workshops designed to bring
you up-to-date with the latest trends and innovations
within the dental industry.
Particularly in these economically challenging times,
investing in your own professional knowledge and
skills can pay dividends in the way your business
operates today.
The company operates the International Centre
for Dental Education (ICDE) at our headquarters in
Schaan, Liechtenstein. To make our training more
accessible, we also operate regional training centres
around the world, including Auckland, Sydney,
Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. These ICDE's offer
lecture rooms, fully equipped dental laboratory and
state of the art audio-visual equipment.
We also use other educational facilities around
Australia and New Zealand to better enable
participation.
Ivoclar Vivadent continues to work closely with the
New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA), Australian
Dental Association (ADA) and the New Zealand
Institute of Dental Technologists (NZIDT), with
courses backed by verifiable Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) hours for participants.
To attend any of the courses in our calendar, select
a date, location and topic to meet your training
and educational requirements, and complete the
registration form on page 55 (for Australia), or page
57 (for New Zealand) of this booklet and return it.
We look forward to seeing you at our events this

Aesthetic Restorations with IPS e.max®
– Utilising the NEW Power Range
2-day Lecture & Hands-on
Szabolcs Hant
Course Description
Single restorations have always been the biggest
challenge for the dental team.
In the last 10 years, we have had great results with
the IPS e.max system, but Ivoclar Vivadent recently
introduced a new powder range that makes our job
even easier.
Previously in certain situations, like a layered cut
back restoration, we had to mix different powders to
achieve a bright result. Now we can use the Power
powders to achieve a naturally bright restoration.
On this course, Szabolcs will show you his full
protocol for layering a single restoration, including:
photography, shade analysis, shade map, layering
according to the shade map, morphology, surface
texture and hand-polishing.
Szabolcs will also show you his advanced layering
for single restorations using a photograph of a real
case. The diagram of the layering will be included

Conservative 3D Canal
Preparation and Disinfection
1-day Lecture & Hands-on
Dr Hani Naoum
Course Description
The root canal system is highly complex, making
adequate cleaning during root canal treatment
challenging. Most files create round preparations,
limiting their potential to scrape the walls of oval
shaped canals, fins, communications and isthmuses.
Several studies using micro CT technologies
demonstrated that round files touch only a small
portion of the canal walls. Because of these
limitations, many adjunctive techniques have
been used to compensate for these shortcomings,
including; higher concentrations of NaOCl and
EDTA, sonic or ultrasonic activation of the irrigants,
or using laser technology.

Mastering All-Ceramics – To Optimise Anterior
Aesthetics & Build-up of Posterior Defects
2-day Lecture & Hands-on
Dr Andreas Kurbad & Dr Michael Dieter
Course Description
There is an increasing demand for an attractive
appearance in our society. A perfect smile is a
cornerstone to express youth, attraction and
success. At the same time, dentists and patients
are becoming aware of less-invasive restorative
techniques and materials that facilitate the
conservation of considerable amounts of healthy
tooth structure.
The combination of new all-ceramic materials
and adhesive cementation techniques enables the
clinician to achieve impressive clinical results, with
regards to both functional and aesthetic aspects.
Digital technologies support the dental team; not
only with the design and manufacturing process
but also with case planning and communication of
aesthetic parameters.
In this interactive lecture, Dr Andreas Kurbad &
Dr Michael Dieter will present a reliable clinical
concept in the light of the latest scientific
information, with a focus on the optimisation of
the patient`s smile with veneers and the functional
reconstruction of posterior defects with inlays/onlays,
partial crowns and table tops (occlusal veneers).

Harmony
All-ceramic restorations for anterior teeth & the
completion of a computer-fabricated posterior crown
2-day Lecture & Hands-on
Shigeo Kataoka
Course Description
In the restoration of anterior teeth, a thorough
knowledge of tooth morphology is crucial. In order
to create restorations with lifelike shading, the
different layers or structures of the natural teeth
need to be closely studied and precisely reproduced.
The highly translucent IPS e.max® Press HT ingots
are suitable for the classic indications such as inlays/
onlays and partial crowns.
However, they also open up new opportunities in
the fabrication of veneers, which can be put into
practice quickly and easily.
Apart from fabricating two anterior restorations
(crown and veneer), we will add the finishing
touches to a pre-fabricated posterior crown made of
IPS e.max CAD using the staining technique.
Learning Objectives
In this course, we will fabricate various restorations
based on a theory that I have developed. According
to this theory, all tooth surfaces feature concave
and convex areas or have curved outlines. These
ultimately determine the shape of the natural
tooth. In order to identify these lines, which are
always curved and never straight, the significant
points of the curvatures have to be defined and
their relevance understood. When restoring central
incisors with IPS e.max Press, we need to follow
certain rules that allow us to faithfully mimic the
natural shape and shade of teeth, regardless of
whether we use the layering or cut-back technique.
In the theoretical part, we will also address the
surface texture as an essential design element in
tooth restoration.
The course models (with the instructions on how to
fabricate the anterior copings) will be sent to you
prior to the course. The IPS e.max CAD posterior
crown will be provided during the course.

Course Description
A practical introduction and workshop to the new
IPS e.max Ceram Power materials and Ivocolor
Shades and Stains System.
IPS e.max Ceram Power is a new higher value lowfusing nano fluorapatite glass.
Ceramics, when used in combination with
translucent ZrO2 or IPS e.max Press/CAD materials
and the new Ivocolor Shades and Stains produce
outstanding aesthetic results.
The new additional Power Dentin and Power Incisal
materials demonstrate a higher brightness for patient
cases that require it. With these new materials, the
desired brightness can be achieved on translucent
frameworks.
The easy-handling properties and aesthetic potential
make working with this material an extraordinary
