At AAG, campers will get the opportunity to experiment in just about everything. They’ll have an exciting capture-the-flag game outside, a thrilling round of dodgeball in the gym, get absolutely drenched during a water activity, and dabble in their creative side with an art project—and that’s all just in one day! AFTER CAMP AVAILABLE UNTIL 6:00 PM See next page for details. Your kids will have a blast with the various theme days and weeks, playing games, trying sports and crafting projects. AAG will venture to Tower Road Beach every Friday for a day filled with fun in the sun. In addition to beach days, campers will be whisked away on an enjoyable excursion every Tuesday (except the first week). A variety of locations include: water parks, Legoland, and Pinstripes. Excursions are all-day events; children who have enrolled for AM-only need to stay for the duration of the trip and those that have chosen PM-only need to arrive at 9:00 am for departure. There are no additional fees for these days. Almost Anything Goes truly combines what the summer is all about: spending time inside and out doing a vast assortment of fun and unique activities with your friends. Campers must bring a sack lunch and water every day. There is no access to a refrigerator or microwave. You will be notified beforehand of any excursions which provide lunch. Children enrolled in Adventures in Learning are also welcomed to partake in Almost Anything Goes! All you need to do is register for our afternoon session which begins immediately after AiL each day. On normal days, a WPD staff member will pick up your child from Washburne at 12:00 pm and walk them over to Skokie School. On beach days, a bus will transport your child between camps to the beach. On excursion days, however, parents must choose which camp they’ll be attending since the activities are all-day events, and there is no alternate form of transportation. If your child is attending both Adventures in Learning and Camp Almost Anything Goes, please note this in your emergency form. We also have an option for those interested in having their child at camp all day after AiL for eight weeks. This option includes five (5) weeks of afternoons only coupled with three (3) weeks of all day camp which starts upon AiL’s conclusion. Not only will kids love spending time at Tower Road Beach twice a week, but they will also venture on two excursions. See below for details. MSM typically goes to one water park (e.g. Barefoot Bay, Mystic Waters) and an additional venue (e.g. Medieval Times, Gameworks, Action Territory) every week. In addition to the two beach days and two excursions, the fifth day will be spent participating in a wide range of activities at our own Park District facilities including turf sports and games, tennis, crafts, and whatever else campers and staff may come up with on any given day. The most wonderful facet about this age group is their capabilities to create and perform more complex activities. Our staff will guide, encourage and help lead campers on a gratifying summer filled with laughs, entertainment and energy. Campers must bring a sack lunch and water every day. There is no access to a refrigerator, but a microwave is available for use on non-beach and trip days. You will be notified beforehand of any excursions which provide lunch. Even though both sessions offer comparable experiences, we encourage everyone to sign up for the full eight weeks because each session provides a diverse set of programs at alternate destinations. This is an exciting camp for parents who want their children busily occupied with a combination of activities over the course of the summer. At Adventure Camp, teamwork and cooperation are vital to the success of camp. Counselors interact closely with campers to facilitate a fun and positive environment while stressing team-building and safety at all times. Each week typically consists of at least a day at a beach, excursions to a water park and an additional location, and an active sports day. Possible activities for each session include kayaking or SUPing; archery; scuba diving; trips to indoor venues housing things like arcades, trampolines, mini golf, and laser tag; trips to the Zoo; or afternoons spent at our own Park District facilities like the tennis center and golf course. In an age filled with digital screens, we make every effort to keep kids outdoors and as busy as possible to limit these distractions. Campers will also need a bike as we travel to many of our destinations, including surrounding lakefronts and parks, by bike. Campers must bring a sack lunch and water every day—there is no access to a refrigerator or microwave. You will be notified beforehand of any excursions which provide lunch. While both sessions offer similar experiences, we encourage everyone to sign up for all eight weeks as each session will include different activities at a multitude of varying locations. While many of the kids looking to be CiTs have knowledge and experience working with children, being a counselor is a lot different than babysitting! CiTs will gain valuable knowledge and view first-hand the levels of responsibility and challenges required to be a camp counselor. Not only that, but they get to have fun—it’s not all work! They will be able to lead, join in, and play games/ activities/crafts with the campers. The first two days of camp are absolutely critical and cannot be missed. Regardless of which campsite you register for, this mandatory orientation will run from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm at the Elder Lane Beach House (not their specific campsite). We will cover topics including responsibilities and expectations as a counselor, children’s games, safety, and dealing with children who might be having a rough day. Basic CPR and first aid will also be taught during this time, but CiTs will not get CPR certified. After these initial days, each CiT will then shift to their designated camp and be placed with a counselor and group of campers to continue on-site training. At the end of the program each CiT will be evaluated by the camp director. Registration has changed for this program. Each specific campsite has a very limited number of spaces available (this number may flex based on enrollment) to ensure the best possible program not just for your child, but the campers of the sites they will be attending. Please see below for information regarding each site before registering. Happiness Is 1 Campers are 34 months - 4 years of age. Camp meets from 8:50 - 11:50 am. They do not go to the beach. Happiness Is 2 @ TBD Campers are 4 - 6 years of age. Camp meets from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. They go to the beach every Wednesday. Happiness Is 2 @ Crow Island School Campers are 4 - 6 years of age. CiTs may sign up for only one session; however, once they have successfully completed the Counselor-inTraining program, they are eligible to register as a junior counselor. JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM USTA “QUICKSTART” TENNIS The USTA QuickStart Tennis Program is utilized by the professional staff at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center throughout the entire junior program (pages 49-50). The principle of QuickStart is to get children playing quickly and appropriately through the use of modified equipment, making the court and equipment smaller, ball slower, and considering the needs and development stages of children at different ages. Every child, regardless of age, deserves the best possible instruction, to maximize their potential to play. Learn more about the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and its QuickStart program online by visiting usta.com and clicking “Go Now!” This chart will help familiarize you with the progression process.
