The St. Luke’s VETS4VETS ™ Program
needs Veterans and Family Members of
Veterans as Volunteers
St. Luke’s Veteran & Eldercare Services of Middletown is recruiting veterans, and family members of veterans, who wish to volunteer by serving other veterans at risk or in need in Middlesex County. Many elderly and disabled veterans, both connected and not connected to the VA service system,
are in need of transportation assistance as well as neutral and basic information, referral and assistance with “navigating” programs, benefits and
services to which they are entitled to throughout both the veteran and aging
services networks in CT. At-risk elderly and disabled veterans may need
help in establishing key contacts for applications, program coordination and
at times legal advocacy. Sorting through multiple benefit and communitybased program applications, understanding the federal and state veteran
service systems, as well as understanding the variances between veterans’
health care, Medicare, Medicaid or other private insurance, can be a daunting or impossible task for a sick, frail or isolated veteran, as well for their
loved ones. St. Luke’s is looking for veterans and family members of veterans who would like to volunteer to assist in these capacities under the
VETS4VETS ™ banner. All of our volunteers are trained, certified and supported to assist veterans with sorting and understanding these matters, free
-of-charge, to diminish their risk of isolation and/or unnecessary institutionalization. Volunteer trainings are currently being scheduled for late summer
& fall and so dates will soon be posted on www.stlukeshome.org
We need volunteers for any of the following VETS4VETS ™ programs in
Middlesex County…
Medical Transportation – Provide non urgent transportation in St. Luke’s
vehicles;
Navigators – Information & Referral/CHOICES & Veterans benefits counseling;
VESPER ™ – Telephone reassurance for isolated and/or lonely veterans;
