10 Easy Steps ......
HAVERSTRAW, NEW YORK. ON JUNE 30, 2005 A
CIRRUS SR22 MADE A PARACHUTE LANDING IN A
HUDSON RIVER BAY AFTER THE PILOT SUFFERED
A SEIZURE. ©2005 JACK LAGOMARSINO
The letters and email exchanges published here are offered only to illustrate how easily loose
understandings go awry. This presentation is not intended to accuse any publication, magazine
editor or the photographer of being insincere or of wrong doing. It is intended to point out
‘holes and misunderstandings’ in an arrangement which never reached the level of an agree ment. Luckily everything ended well. Vonda H. Blackburn, Editor
March 2006
Dear Editor:
In July 2005 an editor of a magazine, contacted me via e-mail
requesting permission to use some photos I had taken of an aircraft
which had made an emergency landing in a bay of the Hudson
River at Haverstraw, NY. The photos were of the search and
retrieval of that aircraft from the bay.
The editor requested I send a CD of the photos taken and
offered to pay for the use of any photos selected. I did so. Several
months passed without hearing any more from anyone at the magazine, so I assumed they were not interested in using my photos.
Imagine my surprise this year when my wife did an internet search
on my name and came up with a match for photos published in
2005 -- in that magazine! Further research found three of my photos in an article.
I was a little dismayed as to why I was not notified that my photos were being used. The offer to pay for the use of the photos
aside, I felt that an e-mail, or even some form letter notifying me
of the use of my photos would have been the considerate, and professional, thing to do. At least a complimentary copy of that issue
with the article for my portfolio would have been helpful. Apparently, that’s not the practice at that magazine.
I can understand a magazine with a large number of contributing photographers, having one ‘slip through the cracks’. With that
in mind, I sent an e-mail to the editor stating my feelings on the
subject. To date, no reply. I must assume from their lack of
response that they have no intention of paying a use fee or acting
in a professional or honorable manner.
My intentions for this letter are merely to make other unsuspecting photographers aware that there are some who may take
advantage of an opportunity at your expense. Possibly, in some
upcoming issue of Today’s Photographer, you could address the
subject of how photographers might protect themselves and the
use of their photos, and the recourse action in the event his work is
used outside mutually agreed upon guidelines.

The following emails were the arrangements between an IFPO member and an editor to publish photos. TPI Editor’s comments are in red.
Jack, (IFPO Member)
Would it be possible for me to publish some of
your pictures of the Cirrus you photographed in
the Hudson River?
Thank you, (Editor)
Dear Editor:
You are more than welcome to publish whatever
photos I have from the recovery of N3452L. I
believe I took somewhere around 60 photos of
the event and would be more than happy to send
you whatever I have for your review. You are free
to use the photos as I have sent them, or I can
forward the larger image files to you either by email or on CD.
Jack

(Editor:“You are free to use...” Could be misunderstood to mean that nothing is required in
return.)
Jack,
Thank you for the offer. Our first choice would be
to have you send us a CD with the highest resolution photos you have. We would like to use several and will happily pay you. Please include a
mailing address, and send the CD to: (Name and
address provided.)
Thank you very much.
Editor
(Editor: This is where the financial arrange ment should have begun for both parties. “How
much and when do you pay for each image pub -
lished? Do I get photo credit and/or receive a
complimentary copy of the magazine? Do you
return my CD? (Sending a CD with 60 original
images anywhere is very risky. Luckily, this
publication turned out to be very reliable
although late to pay.
Unnamed Editor should have stated exactly
when and how much the photographer would be
paid per image used.
Once an agreement was reached, the written
terms should have been included in the package
with the CD. Also a follow up call by phone by
the photographer in a few days would have
been appropriate.) !
www.ifpo.net
.. To Protect The Use of Your Photos
Photos and Correspondencr by John (Jack) Lagomarsino IFPO, Milford, Pennsylvania
Too many times over the years a
photographer has called or written to
report that his or her photos have been
used without permission, or with permission but without payment, photo
credit or other related problems. In
ninety-nine percent of the reports the
problems could have been avoided by
using a cover letter or a simple agreement in writing or using an IFPO
Business Form.
The following steps should provide
protection for most situations.
1) Copyrights are inherent to the photographer. However, an inventory
list of images with the copyright
notice (Ex :©2006) is a friendly
reminder that the work is protected
by copyright laws. Also a short
notice such as, “May be reproduced
only with written permission of the
author” could be added.
2) Each time a photo or digital image
leaves your possession, it should be
accompanied by signed and dated
permission for use with terms and
conditions stated. This is the first
step to a contract for use -- even if
no payment is involved.
3) Digital images require even more
protection. NEVER send your original files. Not even just for someone
to consider. Send a copy of digital
images along with text files of the
first two items above.
4) Follow up by phone or email within 5-8 business days to see if your
images arrived and if there is interest etc. Mention that complete
information is in the package.
5) A L W A Y S send a postage paid
return envelope when submitting by
mail if you expect your work to be
returned.
6) Submissions by email are just “out
there” in an unknown domain. It is
much safer to mail a disc with your
name and copyright notice on the
disc. We are not suggesting that you
never email an image but you
should know and trust the receiver
and believe that terms for an agreement can be made.
7) Once there is an agreement for an
image is to be used, the terms must
be set before the use occurs. Example: One photo may be used once
for $25 or any amount that is satisfactory. You may even want the
benefit of having your photos published without payment. If so, that
should be agreed upon up front.
8) Others conditions must also be met.
Will you get photo credit? Will you
get a copy of the work published?
Can you buy extra copies if you
need them?
9) When is payment made? Upon publication? Within 30 days? At the
end of the publishing cycle? It really doesn’t matter as long as you
understand and agree to it.
10) Finally, all terms and conditions
should be confirmed in writing and
signed by both parties. Sounds like
too much work? Not so. Two copies
of a simple cover letter can do the
job for you. Simple business forms
can do the job for you even better.
(See the offer for a lifetime supply
of IFPO Business Forms on pages 2
and 3 for $39.95)
What happens if you have released
your images without an agreement for
use and learn they have been used?
Contact the user. Try to work through
the steps listed here. Most everyone
understands that copyright infringement can be serious business. In most
situations, something fair and equitable can be negotiated even after photos have been used.
It’s much easier to take the simple
steps required to protect your work at
the time it leaves your possession than
to try to get control of it after use.
Keeping a log of photo packages,
digital images etc that are in the hands
of potential users helps you track
usage, payments and packages that
should be returned. It also serves as a
reminder of where often your best
work is located and where and why
you should submit it elsewhere.
Using business forms designed
especially for photographers not only
help protect your work, it’s a short cut
to learning about copyrights, rights to
use, terms and conditions. Just select
the form that seems to match your job
and complete it! You should never
have to worry about protecting the use
of your photos again.!

Universal Uniform Code
To Pave the Way To the Future
The Universal Press Credentials
issued by IFPO’s AI News Service last
year are the result of 22 years of
research and development using vital
input from IFPO press photographers.
The design and issuing information
meet the stringent requirements of press
officials and law enforcement around
the world.
Each time an IFPO Press photographer has successfully covered an event
or appeared at a news site since 1984
he or she has paved the way for those
that follow. Now we have the opportunity and the responsibility to pave
the way for AI photographers of the
future.
Our challenge is to institute an American International News Service (AI)
Uniform Code to create a lasting visual impact that matches our current
name recognition. To do that we have
to make sure that all of our AI Correspondent Photographers present exactly
the same uniform credentials and other
tools for success no matter where they
show up in the world to cover an event.
The purpose is to raise awareness and
create a permanent visual impact.
What is the AI Uniform?
1. The AI Universal Credentials
2. The AI News Service Hat
3. The AI News Service Patch
4. The AI News Service Business
Cards
5. AI email service:
"yourname@ainewsservice.com"
What is the purpose?
1. To improve access for A I C o rrespondent photographers.
2. To forge a visual impact that will
create a lasting impression.
3. To pave the way for future AI Photographers.
When AI Correspondents arrive in
uniform at all kinds of events all over
the world, only then can the power of
the uniform make its impact to pave
the way for quicker and easier access
today and tomorrow. !

“Hard work, determination, good timing and a lot of luck paid off”
The Blue Angels Team allowed Lisa into the cockpit ...
This adventure started when a photographer friend of mine told me
about an Air Show taking place at
Republic Airport and Jones Beach in
May 2006. We had planned to shoot
together for sometime and this looked
like an opportunity. While I was making numerous calls trying to figure
out the best times and places to shoot,
I ended up speaking to Officer Barry
Snokhousone of the Blue Angels. He
was very friendly and answered all
my questions to the point that I began
to feel there might be an opportunity
beyond shooting the air show. So I
pressed him further asking if I could
get an exclusive with the men and
planes.
Then I got the idea that one of my
models Lisa Fontanarosa would love
to go on such a shoot because she
loves planes. I mentioned this to Officer Snokhousone and told him I
would try to get these photos pub-
lished. He loved the idea of helping
the girl and getting his men and their
planes in print. He told me he would
let me know when and where to go.
True to his word he called me to tell
me that his crew would be at Islip
Airport from noon to 1:30 p.m. on
Friday. I could get my exclusive at
that time. Wow!
On Thursday I drove to Islip Airport to work through any remaining
red tape and to make sure I knew
exactly where to go on Friday. Good
thing I did this because it was hard
finding the right spot and the red tape
was tough as one might imagine. But
when I finished I knew I was ready
for the next day.
A Friday 11:00 a.m. appointment
ran over and it was noon by the time I
got to Lisa. She was ready to go and
looked beautiful. She was really
excited about seeing the planes. We
met the Blue Angel team at 12:30
p.m. They gave Lisa a real treat by
allowing her in the cockpit and on the
wing. I think the guys got a kick out
of posing with her and their planes. It
was truly a win-win situation -- and
we decided that Lisa should work for
the USO. I got great photos. The men
and Lisa all signed releases with the
hope of publication. I want to thank
Barry, Jose, all the other Blue Angels
and of course my beautiful model
Lisa and IFPO. !
The guys got a kick out of posing too.

Having worked as Chief Photographer
for the Dothan Eagle newspaper in the
mid 80’s, I knew the name of the
game was fire away -- you only have
once to get that one perfect picture
that may mean only seconds in capturing that “Kodak Moment.” I pulled out
all the stops; I felt almost as if I were
synchronized with the performer. I
unleashed several volleys of fire in my
allotted time.
Having a chance to represent
Today’s Photographer magazine again
and capture in photos “B. B. Kings
80th Birthday Farewell Tour” was
another chance of a lifetime for me.
Perhaps the most entertaining concert
I have ever attended, this one was a
record breaking sellout at the Birmingham Alabama Theatre.
Little did a boy by the name of Riley
B. King know what a huge success he
would become when he
hitchhiked to Memphis
as a young kid with only
$2.50 in his pocket so
many years ago. He set
out with a dream in his
head and so many songs
unsung in his heart to
give it his best shot and
in the end became
known as B. B. King,
America’s best blues
singer.
The Crabb Family Gospel Singers
When I first started shooting for
Today’s Photographer magazine, I
decided that I was going to become
diversified and shoot many different
assignments to build my own portfolio
and grow as a photographer. With that
in mind I approached as many venues
as I could work into my busy schedule
as a psychiatric ward nurse. My passion for photography and love of
music drove me to cover some of the
best loved stars in the business.
I joined the IFPO press program
specifically to gain access to the
Willie Nelson Concert in Ozark,
Alabama just a week away. I spoke
with editor Vonda Blackburn for
instructions on how to get started. The
very same day she was able to fax a
letter to the promoter and within 30
minutes I was given the green light!!!
(I’ve learned since that it’s not always
this easy but I’ve done very well.)
At the arena I was given full access
to the foot of the stage along with my
assistant. I was the only photographer
allowed access that close. I got many
Inside the Alabama Theatre, I was
worried about the lighting due to the
restrictions of no flash and a limit to
shooting only the first three songs.
However, my long zoom lens with the
wide aperture suited the lighting problem wonderfully. The pink spot light
that cast a warm hue on this magnificent performer made for some nice
shots. Due to the first two pieces being
instrumentals without the star on
stage, my shots were all rushed during
the third and final song allowed. This
is when an assistant really comes in
handy for quick lens changes to facilitate the shooting in an expedient manner to allow the paying customers the
quality entertainment they expect to
enjoy.
While King plans to retire from touring this year, the thrill is not gone and
never will be. His music and the legend of “Lucille,” his beloved guitar,
will continue to live on and on for the
enjoyment of generations to come.
To stay true to my commitment to
diversify, other assignments have
taken me other high profile events as
well as lesser know ones such as a
Christian Band and a Bike Rally -two distinctly different tickets to
branching out.
You’ve probably read in this magazine many times about taking your
camera to work. I take my passion for
photography to work also. As a Psychiatric Ward nurse, I often teach
classes as night about pursuing your
dreams when the odds are stacked
against you. One night I talked about

SELL PHOTOS YOU ALREADY HAVE!
Successful stock libraries contain HIGH QUALITY images of everyday life situations. IFPO members shoot such images everyday as a matter of
course. However, unless a photographer has hundreds or thousands of images, he may be shunned by the large stock houses. This could happen for two
reasons, he simply may not be recognized as a successful stock photographer or his stock of a few dozen images is too small for an agency to consider.
The IFPO Stock Listing service removes these barriers totally and opens doors to the international sales market.
IFPO’s Stock Listing Service
The following elements clearly distinguish the
differences in the IFPO Stock Listing Service and
a stock agency:
1. The service provided to IFPO members is a
STOCK PHOTO LISTING SERVICE and
NOT an agency.
2. Each photographer manages his own sales.
3. No commissions will be charged ever.
4. Image buyers will browse the IFPO image
bank on the internet, select the photos, get the
price, index number and contact information to
order directly from the photographer who
owns the images.
5. Members may set their own pricing for each
photo sold.
6. Complete copyright standards will be available at the site for image buyers and IFPO
member photographers (the sellers).
7. Image searches by buyers may be made by
subject.
8. The most important part of any Stock Photo
Service is its indexing system that allows an
image buyer to identify a photo for purchase. • There are no commissions ever -- unlike

After 12 Years ...
IF PO K E E PS ON OP E N IN G N EW D O O R S
TO PHOTOGRAPHIC OPPORTUNITIES
By Vincent Lagana IFPO, Italy
IFPO still keeps on opening new
doors of photographic opportunities
even after 12 years of membership. I
can’t wait to see what the next 12
years will bring!

Vincent Lagana IFPO
My article BACK-UP BEATS
LUCK which appeared in the January
1998 issue of Today’s Photographer
magazine was a true biographic history of the world class events I had
attended since my membership in
IFPO began in November 1994. The
article mentions events such as NBA
games, great concerts like Carlos Santana, Pink Floyd, and how I became
the official photographer for Uriah
Heep, the United Colors of Benetton
professional basketball team and their
Nike Summer League. All of these
opportunities were attributed to my
IFPO membership.
Things were going really going well
then and still are even though there
have been a few bumps along the way.
I hit a big bump with the United Colors of Benetton gig. Let’s just say, if I
may, that they decided not to play by
the copyright rules and got caught
double dribbling! We finally settled
our dispute and I received a lump sum
but, a promising professional relationship was broken forever. All I can say
to fellow photographers is, "Get all
agreements in writing!" That one
bump in the road never stopped other
successes from knocking on my door.
To date, with the support of the
IFPO press program I have covered
more than 140 concerts plus other
events such as the World Wrestling
Entertainment (WWE), and here in
Italy the New Wrestling Evolution
(NWE). I have had the privilege to
photograph world class wrestlers like
The Undertaker, "King" Booker T,
Batista, Matt Hardy, Chris Benoit,
Kane, RVD, Bobby Lashley, the
biggest names in the world of
wrestling. Exposure to the world of
professional wrestling led to a paid gig
for a week of travel with the NWE.
I was also the official photographer
for Destiny Tour 2006. My travels
stretched all over Italy as far south as
Sicily. This agreement allowed me all
rights to my images which is quite
unusual. Most of my time now is consumed by photography. I have a web
page WWW.THE-MUSICBOX.COM,
where I try to sell my photos. Sometimes there is just not enough time but,
the results are worth it.
Many publishing opportunities came
since my association with the IFPO
such as: Marshall Law (Issue 9 2006,
Marshall Amplifications, England);
Will Calhoun (Native Lands DVD
KAJA Circle, Inc., June 2005); H E
(Home Electronics) Magazine (Istanbul, Turkey March 2004 and May
2004 issues); Tolo Marton D A L
VERO album covers (front, back &
inserts); D r u m ! (Special Drum
Recording Issue.Vic Firth advertisement May 2002/June 2002); B i k e r s
Life Magazine (Udine, Italy, August
1999 and August 2000 issues). Feature
coverage of “Biker Fest 1999” and
"Biker Fest 2000.” Also, a large layout
of concert photos in Stones People
M a g a z i n e ,the number one Rolling
Stones fan magazine in the world,
(The Netherlands, 1 May 1999 and N.
10 1999).
Being published in many countries
and having my photos requested by
the world’s number one amplification
company, Marshall Amplifications in
England, makes it fair to say "IFPO
still keeps on opening new doors of
photographic opportunities even after
12 years of membership. I can’t wait
to see what the next 12 years will
bring!" !

Let’s use an auto accident as an example.
You have photographed the wreck and are

USE THIS FORM to submit ARTICLES, PHOTOS, and TIPS to be considered for
publication in Today's Photographer. USE THIS FORM and follow these guidelines to
make sure your submission package is complete.
LOOK AT THE MAGAZINE!! When you look at examples of what is
actually published in the magazine, it's like looking at the test
answers before taking the test!!
HOW TO SUCCEED is what we are all about! How to make money,
gain access and get published. How did you get the celebrity to let
you get the picture. How did you get the model to pose for you. What
surprise barriers were you able to overcome? How did you get those
death defying pictures right from your car window?
INSPIRATION is the word our readers use most to describe the magazine and it's content! Have you had some success with your camera
or an idea that would inspire others?
SELDOM SHOOTERS: So you only picked up your camera once or
twice in the past few years, shot a lot of film for an afternoon or a
week, then let it get away from you. What was so important that
caused you to pick your camera up? Family reunion? Your kid's big
soccer game? Beach trip of a lifetime? Favorite group finally came to
town in concert? House down the street caught fire? 2 weeks in Yellowstone? Big celebration at work?
DIFFERENT DRUMMERS: Maybe you have a story with a different
slant — submit it. You may inspire us to expand our editorial range.
Consider and editorial submission even if you have never made a
one before. Publishing your story and/or photos is another way for
us to reward our readers who share a special bond in their passion
for succeeding as photographers ... and making money. Again, our
resolution is to support that effort in every issue and to make sure
that Today’s Photographer “works” for you.

INTERNET NETWORKING SAVES ADVERTISING COSTS
... AND ATTRACTS MODELS
By Dennis Hodges IFPO, Kansas City, Missouri
Feature Model: Tonia
The internet and use of computers have literally changed the way
the world thinks and does business,
especially in the world of photography. As an IFPO photographer and
Model Consultant since 1988 one
thing has not changed ... models
can be found almost anywhere
there is a client base of support. In
the old days we typed models in
categories such as runway, editorial, catalog, print, tea room, body
parts, trade show, convention, and
even voice models. They built
their portfolios from such assignments to promote themselves in the
future. Now we are seeing web
models emerging. Web models are
basically the same types of freelance models but they are promoting themselves via the internet on
model web hosting sites which anyone
can access instantly.
Fellow photographer Robert
Grantham, owner of Vincent Photography in Kansas City, and I decided
to see if we could take the above
information to create the Kansas City
Model Networking Event that would
attract models and photographers. The
first thing we did was to identify a
location which was a “for lease” space
in the Indian Springs Shopping Mall
in Kansas City. The mall allowed us
to use over fifty thousand square feet
of space. Our association with
Today’s Photographer Magazine and
Vincent Photography gave us the
creditability we needed to negotiate
with the mall for such an event. Next
we emailed web models and photographers on a few of those web hosting
sites in to notify them of our upcom-
ing event. The responses for acceptance were phenomenal.
To make the event as professional as possible we invited a range of
companies that are interrelated to
photography and the modeling
industry to answer questions. Most
event promoters charge outside
vendors to participate in their
shows. We decided to let everyone
in free to test our business plan and
to bring more people into the show.
Our reasoning was that if the event
turned out to be successful, everyone including the the promoters
would get a lot of word of mouth
advertising through these businesses and vendors. Furthermore, this
test was only to see if we could
really create a popular event
through networking via the internet.
Making a profit could wait for another
day.
Companies that attended were
mostly local including: Vincent Phot o g r a p h y , Elvis II Entertainment
U S A , Photographx Unlimited, J
Miller Summers Commercial Photography, Tony’s Modeling Agency from
St. Louis, Ultimate Fitness, Costumes

Today's Photographer International
In a landmark move, IFPO has responded to member suggestions to completely revise and update the Master Photographer Program. "First unveiled in 2001, it was overdue
to be updated," according to Vonda Blackburn, an IFPO
Founding Director. "In addition to suggestions from IFPO
members, we have incorporated many of the most successful items from other programs into the all new Platinum
Master Credentials," she continued. "The Platinum program
is designed to elevate our Master Members to a whole new
level of prestige."
IFPO members who have been active for more than 10
years or those who have been published 5 or more times are
qualified to participate in the all new IFPO Master Photographer Platinum Portfolio Program. Others who can offer
different validating criteria may also apply.
The new distinguished Master Logo appears throughout
the credentials. Complete universal issuing information has
been added, which is extremely valuable when credentials
are being scrutinized for every piece of validating information. Nationality, sex, height, hair and eye color, date and
place of birth add verifiable information can be checked
against other identification such as a driver's license or
passport. Classification is based on a full 4-tier range of
publishing credits starting at A for yet-to-be published photographers, and reaching to AAAA for those who are published frequently. Images of the new credentials will not be
shown for security reasons. However, satisfaction upon
arrival is guaranteed or a full refund will be issued.
Master Photographers will be assigned a verification code
printed on the face of all the credentials. This code can be
used to verify members’ status in the Platinum Master Photographer program by anyone 24 hours a day every day
from anywhere in the world. Also, now you can go online
and update your own Platinum Master Photographer record.
You can change your mailing address, add an email address
or change other contact information in seconds -- as often
as you wish. You can also add publishing credits and
assignments frequently without having to call the American
Image office.
The Platinum Master Photographer Portfolio has been
divided into two parts to give IFPO members more options.
The Platinum Master Diploma Portfolio (item #PMA)
includes an Accredited Master Photographer Diploma and
Charter, each signed by two founding directors and printed
on 8 1/2 x 11" parchment paper, embellished with the new
Master Photographer logo presented in a fully padded
leather textured case. A laminated wallet size replica of the
Master Diploma is also included.
The Platinum Master Photographer Credentials Portfolio
(item #PMB) includes the Passport, Badge and Clip, Wallet
Card, Arm Band, High Security Interactive Internet Verification and Master Photographer 3" Embroidered Patch. The
credentials are issued for 3 years which is very important. It

IFPO Plans 25 Anniversary
Silver Jubilee Celebration
Founded in 1984, IFPO is rapidly
approaching its 25th Anniversary in January 2009. Beginning in early 2007
planning will begin for ways to commemorate our quarter century of service.
As those plans evolve, it’s again time
to ask for feedback from the current
membership. How do we mark the first
25 years? What is the course to set for
the next quarter century? How do we
expand membership?
Expanding the membership is the
biggest challenge. In the 1980’s (before
everyone went online for everything)
photographers read photography magazines for all their needs. IFPO membership ads appeared in those magazines
and new members were easy to attract.
Not so anymore. At least 2 of the major
titles have folded and most of the others
have fewer readers. So getting our membership message out is much more difficult now.
We need your help! The strength of
any organization is in its numbers and
efforts for growth and development. We
are asking each member to do three
things to insure that the next 25 years are
as successful as the first 25.
1) If you have a website, put a banner or
link to the IFPO website. Go to:

LIFETIME
THE ADVANTAGE
HOW IT WORKS
An IFPO Distributorship is an exceptional
opportunity for IFPO members to achieve success and make money by taking advantage of the
millions of dollars and 15 years of research that
have gone into developing the IFPO / Today's
Photographer Magazine Concept. The modest
distributor's fee gives you the value of MILLIONS of dollars that have been invested in 15
years of advertising IFPO’s dependability, quality and services.
Today's Photographer Magazine and its associated products gets more exposure than any
other photography magazine. It is advertised regularly in display space advertising in Popular
Photography, Photographic, Outdoor Photographer, American Photographer and Shutterbug. As
a distributor, you get the direct benefit of this
advertising.
Today's Photographer is sold on Newsstands
throughout the United States, Canada, and
around the world.
IFPO is recognized in more than 140 countries on all continents of the world and has more
than 67,000 members. Today's Photographer
Magazine is currently being distributed to more
than 80,000 photography enthusiasts 4 times a
year.
Typically, distributorships or franchises that
give a distributor this kind of exposure, promotion and value are priced from $10,000.00 to
$150,000.00.
1. DISTRIBUTOR DISCOUNT: You are entitled to order products and services from a current issue of Today's Photographer at a only
50% of the listed standard price. For example:
multiply list prices by 0.5 (a $68 membership
would be $34.00). Half of $39.95 for example,
would be $19.98 (rounded off to the nearest
cent).
YOU CAN:
•You can start a new business and coast in the
wake of the IFPO flagship. Let its research,
product development, name recognition and dollars spent on advertising make money for you.
Let IFPO's rapid success plan turn into financial
growth for you.
•You can reap the profits from more than 2.5 million dollars already spent on advertising in all the
major photography and video magazines. Let
these IFPO advertising dollars work for you and
your business by building name recognition for
the IFPO products and programs that you sell.
•You can offer IFPO products and programs to
your clients without spending a penny for market
research or product development. IFPO is constantly upgrading its products and services to
maintain its leadership position in the international marketplace.
•You can guarantee satisfaction for each product
and program you offer. That customer satisfaction is backed up by IFPO and is a vital part of
the IFPO success story.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
http://www.ifpo.net/dfaq
2. QUANTITIES AND SHIPMENTS: Order in
any quantity. IFPO will ship to you or your customer direct. No minimums or quotas.
3. EXCLUSIONS: You CANNOT apply your
distributor's discount to: USA or Foreign shipping • Workshop programs • Quantity discount
packages such as 3R0X, 3VVX, item numbers
containing “X”, or special offers with expiration
dates • Classified and display a dvertising •
Items in out-of-date issues may no longer be
valid • Items not sold by IFPO/American Image
are excluded. Items not sold in Today’s Photographer magazine are excluded.
MAKE MONEY:
•A distributor could sell only 2 videos a week
and net up to $2000.00 a year. He could build
his business up to 200 videos a week and be
pulling in potentially $200,000.00 per year.
•A distributor could set up a network of 100
Model Consultants "talent scouts" in an area.
He would make nearly $15,000 just on the
model consultant kits and IFPO memberships,
then would make more on the videos, forms,
books and other items that consultants frequently buy.
•A distributor could sell to schools and educational institutions. IFPO's instructional videos
are very popular with schools of all kinds
(Junior Highs, High Schools, Colleges, Trade
Schools, etc.). Schools typically purchase in
larger quantities, often 10 to 20 videos at a time.
Currently, about 100 schools are purchasing
from IFPO. There are tens of thousands more in
this country alone.
•Recreational groups sponsored by government
or other non-profit groups. For example, Military bases have recreational programs that
include self-help and how-to programs on video.
Currently, IFPO does a brisk business with military base purchase orders from only a few bases.
•Many other groups sponsor recreational programs that would be very interested in photography instructional videos. Groups plan trips.
Vacationers use cameras and camcorders.
•Photographer's swap meets or flee markets are
ideal places to set a booth and market IFPO
products. In these situations, having merchandise to sell (like videos) is a plus. But if you
don't have the merchandise, be sure to get the
name, address, and phone number of each person that stops by your booth. Each one is a
WHY YOU?
•You may wish to purchase many IFPO programs or services for yourself. A distributorship
will save you 50%.
•You may be associated with a group such as a
camera club, family members or close associates
who may want to participate in IFPO products
and services at discount prices.
•If you have a photography studio or similar
business may wish to arm all of your staff members with memberships and press program credentials from IFPO to make them more competitive. An IFPO Distributorship would enable
them to do this at reduced costs to the studio or
company.
•You may want to start down the road of being
your own boss with an IFPO distributorship. You
can start small, order in any quantities, part time
or full time. Most of all, you may have a few
hours a week to invest in your financial future.
prospective customer for the future. If you run
out of copies of Today's Photographer at your
booth, you can always mail them one in the
future with a special offer flyer of some kind.
REPEAT CUSTOMERS
The best opportunity you have to make
money as a distributor is to give your customers
a REASON to do business with you. You can
use your own liberal distributor discount to your
advantage. If you can give your customers a 5
or 10% discount by purchasing through you,
then they have a reason to order with you
instead of ordering directly through mail order
with IFPO. Your own margins may be a little
slimmer, but your volume would be much higher.
No w yo u could consider distributing
Today's Photographer Magazines liberally with
your business card attached and a notice that
offers your own 5% or 10% discount if they
order through you.
In this way, you would get the full advantage of repeat orders from the same customers.
Here is a sample list of schools and institutions
that have already placed large orders directly
with IFPO:
AFETA, Camp Peary, VA; Miami Killian
Senior High School, Miami, FL; Leon County Schools,
FL; River East School Division, Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada; Aims Community College, Greeley, CO; CBN
University Library, Virginia Beach, VA; Southwest
State University Library, Marshall, MN;University of
Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA; NAF Fort Sam Houston,
TX; Stockton Unified School District, Stockton, CA;
Phillipsburg Board of Education, NJ; Roberts High
School, Florence, CO; Oakton Community College,
Des Plaines, IL; Greenville Technical College, SC;
Curtis Jr High School, Tacoma, WA; Minuteman
Regional Vocational Technical School District, MA;
Ferris State College Library, Big Rapids, MI; Maricopa Community College, Phoenix, AZ; Southeastern
Mass. University, MA; Sparta Senior High School,
Sparta, WI; and many, many more.
The List Price of the IFPO Distributor Program is $1,490. For a limited time, the price is reduced to $387 but will only remain
at that special price until our current Distributor Enrollment program has met it’s goals.

The American Image Press Photographer’s Code of Ethics
• Stay within the boundaries of the photographers’ area. Never interfere
A press photographer’s reputation is often based on his own code
of ethics. Although getting the story is the ultimate goal, ethical standards can “make or break” a career. As a press photographer, it is
your duty to document newsworthy happenings — never altering circumstances or interfering with action to enhance your photographs.
Your photos should tell a story just as it happened. Meeting the high
standards of good press photography requires patience, determination and a strong set of ethics which can be the difference between
success and failure.
First, foremost and always remember that Press access is a privilege not to be abused. Use the following Code of Ethics to guide
you:
• Arrive early — at least 45 minutes to an hour before the event is
scheduled to begin — in order to check in, find the press area, check
out the stage or facility lay-out and choose a vantage point.
• Never show up for an event unprepared. Not only should you have all
the proper equipment, you should have a basic knowledge and understanding of the event. Do your homework!
• Try to work with promoters and authorized officials rather than against
them.
• Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times. Photographers
who complain or cause problems aren’t likely to be admitted again.
• Don’t just start shooting. Take time to think about what you’re covering.

with the action, criticize a player or performer or interrupt an authorized
official.
• Have patience. Resist the urge to inconvenience other photographers
by changing spots. Your opportunity will come.
• Although it can be necessary to fight for a good position, always be
courteous. You’ll find other photographers are usually willing to share
their space -- if you offer them the same courtesy. Try your best to get
along with other members of the press.
• Always live up to your obligations to promoters and publications.
• If you agree not to sell the photos commercially, DO NOT break this
agreement.
• Always clean up after yourself -- film wrappers, etc.
• Never photograph anyone in a compromising situation (backstage,
locker rooms) unless it’s a public figure in a public place which qualifies
for news. Don’t abuse the privileges you have been granted.
• Always remember you are a photographer on the job -- not a spectator.
Finally, the nature of breaking news makes preparation impossible. However, when you arrive on the scene, you are a press photographer -- expected to live up to the same ethical standards you
have learned to display at scheduled media events. With practice
and common sense, high ethical standards should some as naturally as pressing the shutter. !
