Another Late Night with LateNiteBilly
Summertime and the livin's easy.
Lyrics made famous by Sublime and the
lifestyle held true by the Tahoe local.
Summer has finally arrived! Lets get right
into what's in store for you music lovers
in the month of July!
I Love the 80's! To say this first party
is going to be really good would be an
insult. To say this party is TOTALLY
RADICAL, TUBULAR, BODACIOUS,
GNARLY, EXCELLENT, AWESOME
would be more the words that best
describe what's going down June 30,
2011 at Mo's Place! Tahoe is known as
hands down, one of the biggest party
destinations for 4th of July and we
thought we would get you all primed up
for the weekend! I Love the 80's Video /
DJ Dance Party featuring World Famous
DJ KOS - not only will he be rocking
all your favorite sing-a-long 80's dance
tunes on the turntables - he will be mixing
the video's LIVE on 14 TV screens
throughout the club including a 8'x8' HD
Screen right next to him on stage! This
is the most bodacious 80's Party Tahoe
has ever seen! It's happening at Mo's
Place on Thursday, June 30 and the
first 25 people in 80's attire get in free!
$10 cover. Drink specials all night and
fluorescent glow sticks necklaces are
free with cover!
Next up - the return of Delhi 2
Dublin! This was such a hit the first time
around, they had to come back for more!
Wednesday, July 13th we hop over to
Mo's Place once again. Vancouverbased Delhi 2 Dublin is a group of five
musicians who mash up electronic and
world music, keeping it heavy on the
Bhangra, Celtic and Dub flavors. Delhi
2 Dublin is non-stop world beat energy.
Where else can you see a purple haired
female fiddle player rocking out with a kiltwearing Korean flanked by two bouncing
bhangra percussionists and a vocalist
who looks like he would be at home in
a Bollywood music video? These guys
(and girl) are all about energy. Come
witness it for yourself!
Ky-mani Marley - Singer. Actor.
Author. Humanitarian.
...The Marley surname perpetuates
Jamaican royalty, resonates world-wide
recognition and represents the pioneer of
a cultural, political and social revolution.
Reggae icon and legend Bob Marley
blessed the world with his timeless,
brilliant and message filled sound which
continues to inspire and influence
audiences today. With such a living past,
Bob Marley’s conviction and passion for
music unintentionally was passed to the
lives of his offspring and has allowed the
Marley name to remain relevant amongst
the hierarchy of the reggae sound. KyMani is a fitting name for a charismatic
artist whose East African name means
“adventurous traveler.” Born on February
26, 1976, Ky-Mani Marley is the son of
Bob Marley and table tennis champion
Anita Belnavis. Ky-mani is the second
youngest of Bob’s eleven children. Catch
this once in a lifetime show on Sunday,
July 17th at Cal Neva Resort in North
Lake. All ages are welcome. Billed
as "Reggae at the Lake" the famous
Reggae Festival that was put together
years back by Renegade Productions
in Kings Beach, this is a co-headline
bill with Gramps Morgan from Morgan
Heritage. Reggae Revolution 2011!
Zepperella - these Ladies are no
strangers to Tahoe although you have
yet to witness the new line-up of girls,
making the band even larger than life
than ever before! Zepparella are an allfemale Led Zeppelin tribute band from
San Francisco, California. The band
began in 2004 as a practice project
between guitarist Gretchen Menn and
drummer Clementine. 2011 saw a new
lineup, following the departure of vocalist
Anna Kristina and bassist Nila Minnerok,
who left the band to pursue other projects
at the end of 2010. Zepparella is still
hot as ever with the addition of vocalist
Miaya Shambry and bassist Angeline
Saris. This is happening at Mo's Place
on Thursday, July 21st.
On Sunday, July 31st we are over
at Brothers Bar and Grill for LateNite Productions first show there. We
will host an outdoor Summer Concert
(Summertime in the SLT) beginning
at 5pm with Long Beach Rehab and
yes, as the name suggests you will be
hearing the songs of Sublime as well as
songs from the original bands of all the
all-star players in this band. Long Beach
Rehab features Q-Ball (from Sublime,
lbc) on Bass, Israel Joseph (from Bad
Brains) on Vocals / Guitar and Ivan De
Prume (from White Zombie) on Drums.
You DON'T want to miss this one!
So far, confirmed for August, we
will bring back punk-rock pioneers,
Dead Kennedys for an all ages show
at The Underground in Reno on Friday,
August 5th and on the 9th and 10th we
are hosting the "Unophishal Phish
Afterparties" at Mo's Place with the
return of Melvin Seals and JGB (Jerry
Garcia Band).
Till next time Tahoe - keep up the
love love and support and "Keep the
Vibe Alive"! ~LateNiteBilly
Aging, Friendship, Laughter & Love - All in One Night!
The Dixie Swim Club July 7-10
and July 14-29 at The Boathouse
Theatre
As part of the Valhalla Arts, Music,
and Theatre Festival, The Tahoe Tallac
Association and 5th Age productions
present the hilarious comedy The
Dixie Swim Club by Jessie Jones,
Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten
at the Boathouse Theatre, July 7-9,
14-16 at 8:00pm and July 10,17 at
2:00pm.
Five Southern women, whose
friendships began many years ago
on their college swim team, set aside
a long weekend every August to
recharge those relationships. Free
from husbands, kids and jobs, they
meet at the same beach cottage on
North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch
up, laugh and meddle in each other's
lives.
As their lives unfold and the years
pass, these women increasingly rely
on one another, through advice and
raucous repartee, to get through
the challenges (men, sex, marriage,
parenting, divorce, aging) that life
flings at them. And when fate throws
a wrench into one of their lives in the
second act, these friends, proving the
enduring power of "teamwork," rally
'round their own with the strength
and love that takes this comedy in a
poignant and surprising direction. The
Dixie Swim Club is a hilarious and
touching comedy about friendships
that last forever.
The cast includes Boathouse
favorites: Diana Arington Evans,
(Dangerous Liaisons, The Dining
Room, Steel Magnolias) Ginger
Nicolay Davis, (The Dining Room, Five
Women Wearing the Same Dress) Ann
Swallow, (Steel Magnolias, Rabbit
Hole), Teri Levy (Rabbit Hole) and Amy
Sando (Rabbit Hole, Asst. Director).
The production is directed by David
Hamilton with Dave Anderson doing
set design and technical direction.
Tickets at $18 general, $15
seniors over 65/ children under 18
and are available online, at http://
www.valhallatahoe.com/events.html
or at the door. Due to adult situations,
the production is not recommended
for children under 13. The Boathouse
Theatre is located at the Tallac Historic
Site located 2 miles past the intersection
of Highway 50 and Highway 89, just
past Camp Richardson, on the lake
side of Highway 89. Please turn right
on the street with the sign "Valhalla."
If parking lot is full, feel free to park
along Hwy 89 outside entrance.
Due to the limited parking spaces
at Valhalla, we encourage carpooling,
bike riding and good old-fashioned
walking. Parking is allowed in
designated spaces only.
For more information call 530
541-4975.
The Tahoe Tallac Association
was formed in 1979 as a non-profit
501(c)(3) organization with the goal
of assisting the Forest Service in
restoring the three estates on the
Tallac Historic Site and developing
the site as a historic center while
sponsoring as well as producing the
Valhalla Arts & Music Festival held
annually on the Heller Estate of the
Tallac Historic Site. The site is listed
on the National Registry of Historic
Sites. The Tahoe Tallac Association
operates under a special use permit
with the USDA Forest Service, Lake
Tahoe Basin Management Unit, for the
Valhalla estate at the Tallac Historic
Site. The Association is supported by
grants, sponsorship, memberships,
and private donations. For more

COMEDY FROM THE MOUNTAIN
You know people are excited
(still) about the summer when you
already hear them talking about how
soon will it be before it starts snowing
again? This while buying plants and
soil supplements at Nell’s Hardware,
The Grocery Outlet and Rite Aid. I
like to spread it around some. Time
already is flying by too quickly but even
more so when you realize we literally
skipped a season so even though I
know the flowers and plants I bought
will look pretty out front I know they’ll
probably only have a shelf life of what,
three months? I haven’t even started
repairing the roof yet from the shingles
that were ripped out by all that snow
and ice that had accumulated on the
roof before off those huge chunks
ripped them out. I just want to soak
in as much of summer before I have
to start thinking about shoring things
up. Maybe I’ll wait ‘til Fall. Yeah, that’s
what I’ll do.
It doesn’t happen too often but
once in a while we’ll get a headliner
who is so brilliant that a middle act
is not required. Charles Fleischer
is that headliner. And I’m not just
saying that he’s brilliant to make him
sound more intelligent than he already
is because he really is brilliant. He
appeared on a number of short-lived
variety and sketch comedy programs
and sitcoms that included “Keep on
Trucking” (ABC. 1975), “The Richard
Pryor Show” (NBC, 1977) and as a
sweathog during the 1978-79 season of
“Welcome Back Kotter.” He appeared
in a number of movies but things
really popped for him when , in1988
auditioned and got the voice as Roger
Rabbit in the hit movie of the same
name, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”
Director Robert Zemeckis in fact used
Charles to play several other voices
in that film including Benny The Cab
and the two sinister weasels, Greasy
and Psycho. Fleischer appeared in
countless other films including 2004’s
“The Polar Express” (also directed by
Zemeckis ) as the voice of Elf General
and starred in 2007’s “Zodiac” playing
the creepy in-the-basement character
of Bob Vaughn. Catch him the week
of July 6-10 and be prepared to have
your funny bone and brain challenged.
Chicago native John Caponera
is back for the first time since he
premiered on Showtime ‘s “Godfathers
of Comedy” special.
The special
featured five very distinctive comics
and their take on what it was like
growing up Italian. Along with ‘Cap’
on the special there’s Paul D’Angelo,
Frank Santorelli, Willie Fratto and
Rocky LaPorte. John has also been
on “The Good Life,” hosted Comedy
Central’s “Jocks” and ESPN’s “Talk
II.” He guest-starred on NBC’s long
running hospital drama, “ER, “ “Love
& War,” “Blossom” and one of my
favorite shows, “Tales From The Crypt”
on HBO. Cap is unique in his own way
in part for infusing his love of Chicago
baseball and to those legendary sports
announcers who broadcast the game.
A highlight for me is watching him do a
dead-on take on the Chicago
Cub’s announcer,
Harry
Caray. It’s hilarious. The
jokes are further bolstered by
his talent for facial gestures
that range from goofy to
arrogant, making Caponera
arguably the hottest club
headliner going at present.”
Also along for the ride is
another personal fav, David
Gee. See them both July
13th through the 17th.
The last time Brian
Dunkleman performed up
here was 2002. With all
of the credits ‘Dunkie’ has
accumulated over the years
he’ll forever be known as
the guy who walked away
from American Idol after its
first season. In fact all of
that was going down when
he last appeared here. After
Idol's initial Summer 2002
season ended, Dunkleman,
who had co-hosted the
show’s first season with
now solo Idol host Ryan
Seacrest, announced that,
he had “decided not to return
for Season Two in order to
pursue other opportunities
in the world of TV and
feature films.” Since leaving
“American Idol” Dunkleman
has had small guest roles
in “Ghost Whisperer,” “Las
Vegas” and a season as
himself in VH1’s “Celebrity
Fit Club.” He’s a good comic
and looking forward to having
him up here.
Appearing on the bill with
Dunkleman is former child
actor now working behind
the camera, Marc Price.
Catch ‘em both the week of
July 20th through the 24th.
One show I’m looking
forward to experiencing this
week is Allan Havey and
Kat Simmons. In the past I
referred to them as a week
of “Sugar & Spice” with Allan being the
spice. Havey can be quite caustic at
times and always quick on the attack if
anyone tries to interfere with him. Put it
this way: there have been nights when
Havey would just eliminate his regular
programming if someone should make
a comment about something or when
Allan realizes that something else more
pertinent is worth commenting on. This
is where Allan’s improvisational skills
shine. Havey is frequently invited to
be a part of comedy festivals from
all over the world. Some of them the
Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in
Montreal, Aspen Comedy Festival
The New York Comedy Festival and
my favorite, The Cat Laughs Comedy
Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland. He has
made tours of Australia and Europe
and continues to be one of the best
comedians working today. With all his
credits Allan says that entertaining our
troops overseas has been the most
rewarding. Allan has two CDs out
(and currently completing his 3rd one)
that will be available after his comedy
shows. Kat Simmons is the sugar of
course has opened for virtually every
comic I’ve known and has worked
along side such
big names as Tim
Allen, Diane Ford
and Kenny Rogers
(who is really more
a singer than a
funnyman).
Her
ability to blend
real life situations
and turn it into a
very
poignant
observation bit on
life is really cool to
watch. She’s also
able to combine her physical sensibility
along with her verbal delivery that really
closes the bit henceforth producing
laughter. It just accents the ‘funny’
even more so. I’ve said repeatedly
over the airwaves that if Dick Van Dyke
had a three-way with Lucielle Ball and
Carol Burnett the end result would
be Kat Simmons. Catch Havey and
Simmons July 27th through the 31st.

Fly Fishing
We have more water than we
know what to do with and the rivers
are going to be out of reach until the
middle if not the end of this month.
don't fret, there are plenty of options
to fly fish in our area but you have to
switch up your plans and spend some
time on Stillwater fisheries! Spooner
Lake, Red Lake, Caples Lake, Silver
Lake, Indian Creek Reservoir and a
host of other backcountry lakes as
well.
There are numerous flies that
work on Stillwaters but just a few
considered the meat and potatoes.
The main categories of bug life that
we are trying to imitate are Leeches,
Damsels, Midges, Scuds, Callibaetis
Mayflies, Water Boatmen, Snails and
Terrestrials (beetles, hoppers and
ants). Sub-surface patterns I carry
are Olive Buggers, Black Buggers,
Damsel Nymphs, Hares Ear Nymphs,
P.T.'s, Zebra Midges, Prince Nymphs
and Olive Scuds. Surface patterns
I carry are Parachute Adams, Joe's
Hoppers, Dave's Beetles, Flying
Ants, Blood Midges, Floating Snails
and Blue Damsels. If you have this
selection or something similar you
should be able to catch fish with a fly
on most Stillwaters in our area.
One of my favorite techniques
for Stillwater fly fishing is the Heave
It and Leave It! It's bobber fishing
with a fly rod in a sense, but very
effective when the fish are eating just
below the surface or on the surface.
It is fishing with a large dry fly with
a midge or nymph pattern trailing
underneath. Cast toward a rise form
or in front of a cruising fish but make
sure to lead them quite a ways so as
not to spook the fish. 90 percent of
the time the fish will eat the nymph
but on occasion the fish will eat the
dry fly! Another technique is stripping
Leeches or Buggers with all types of
fly lines depending on how deep you
want to be. For sight fishing, a dry
line or clear intermediate line will work
best. Just cast toward the rise form
or a fair distance in front of a cruising
fish taking care not to spook the fish.
Try wiggling the fly pattern as soon
as it touches the water rather than
stripping it. Sometimes this technique
will produce a better strike and if the
fish does not take it right away then try
stripping the fly. There are numerous
techniques for Stillwater fly fishing
and those are just few of my favorites.
If a certain fly is not working or a
certain technique is not producing,
switch the fly and or technique right
away and be creative for best results!
There are numerous species of
trout that can be caught with a fly in
Stillwaters. Rainbows are probably
the most common but Browns,
Cutthroats, Goldens, Brookies and
numerous crossbred species can be
caught as well. You will have to go
above 9000 feet to catch the Golden
trout and one of the best spots in
our area is Raymond Lake. You
can catch these fish with a dry fly
during the summer months by walking
the shoreline and casting to cruising
fish. Crater Lake is a great place to
catch Brookies by the boatload. The
Brookies are not that big, but they
take a fly without hesitation. A great
place for the beginner fly angler!
Heenan Lake is a favorite in the Fall
for Lahontan Cutthroat. These fish
Victor Babbit
can also be sight fished, as they
like to cruise along the weed beds
looking for Scuds. There is nothing
like seeing a big Heenan Lake Cutt
cruising just under the surface looking
for a meal! How about trying for three
or four species in a day? It can be
done!
There is a lot to be said about
Stillwater fly fishing but limited space,
so for further information on these
fisheries or any others in the local
area, Stop by Tahoe Fly Fishing
Outfitters in South Lake Tahoe or give
us a call! 530-541-8208. We offer full
guide service and a huge selection
of anything you might need for a day
of Stillwater fly fishing as well as any
other fishing you might want to do.
Don't spend all of your time on a river,
diversify and give Stillwater fly fishing
a try! Thanks for reading and

The New Mastersounds - July 9 - Mt. Tallac Brewery
The New Mastersounds are a
four-piece band based in Leeds,
England, whose modern take on
vintage soul-jazz, funk and rock
draws influences from Jimmies
McGriff, Smith, and Hendrix, as well
as their most closely-associated
mentors, The Meters. Try to imagine
Grant Green and Lou Donaldson
having a fight in a Hammond Organ
shop while James Brown holds the
coats, and you have some idea of
what to expect from this band. Their
first single, One Note Brown, was
released on Blow It Hard Records
in 2000 and was passionately
championed by acclaimed Northern
Soul and funk DJ Keb Darge.
To date, the band has released
four studio records: 102%, This
Is What We Do, Be Yourself, Keb
Darge Presents… as well as The
New Mastersounds Re::Mixed, and
Live At La Cova. Also of note: their
single, “Your Love Is Mine” featuring
Corinne Bailey Rae, was used in the
2007 Warner Brothers movie Feast
of Love.
Having
toured
throughout
Europe, Japan and the USA, the
NMS have earned global recognition
as a key band in the ‘New Funk’
scene. But purists beware: their
unique blend of funk, rock, soul and
dance music is hard to sum up and
doesn’t fit neatly into any one genre.
Headed soon to a city near
you, The New Mastersounds deliver
gritty grooves and deep rhythms in
clubs, theater venues and festivals
alike. Their live shows will get you
up dancing and hold you there
intoxicated by the funk until last
call- when you’ll stagger home,
sweaty and exhausted, on a wave
of euphoria.
Led by guitarist and producer
Eddie
Roberts,
The
New
Mastersounds feature Joe Tatton on
Hammond, Pete Shand on bass and
Simon Allen on drums.
The New Mastersounds are
playing at Mt. Tallac Brewery,
Saturday July 9th. Special Guests
are Groove Session and Adient Zoo.
This is an all ages concert and
tickets are $15 presale and $20 day
of show.
Mt. Tallac Brewery is located
at 2060 Eloise Ave. in South Lake
Tahoe. More information can be
found at PetProjektPresents.com.

million records sold… Limelight, Party
Monster, Ego Trip… five million miles
traveling around the world… the ups,
the downs, and the fame and fortune;
Keoki is truly a living legend - the
first, last, and only of his kind. Adding
Liquid Stranger to this show was a
no-brainer! Traveling the uncharted
terrains of sound, Liquid Stranger's
creative output spans a wide range of
electronic music in all of its colors and
shades. The Liquid Stranger has been
working professionally with music
since 1996 and has released over 50
titles under various pseudonyms in
that time. He used to DJ for Breaks

If you’ve never seen a reallife Medium demonstrate his gift of
speaking with deceased loved ones,
I highly recommend seeing America’s
most gifted and popular Mediums,
James Van Praagh.
Some of you
might remember his TV talk show,
Beyond, or his many appearance of
Oprah, 20/20, The View, and his
upcoming special on Nightline. He
is a #1 Best Selling Author was over
10 books on the national best seller
including his latest book “Growing Up
In Heaven” (growingupinheaven.com),
which was released this past May.
He is also the creator and Executive
Producer of The Ghost Whisperer
on CBS, which ran eight seasons as
their #1 drama in that time slot. It
was the story of James’ life. James
Van Praagh is a “survival medium”
which means he is able to bridge the
gap between two planes of existence,
that of the living and that of the dead,
by providing evidential proof
of life after death via detailed
messages. It is so compelling
to witness the proof of lifeafter-death, that no matter
what your personal beliefs are,
you will leave the show with
a much broader perspective
on this subject. I have been
handling James for a few
years now, and have promoted
his shows around the world,
from Australia, Europe, and
all over the US. Each show
I’ve witnessed has moved,
touched and inspired me to
open my mind to this realm of
possibility. This is James’ first
visit to Lake Tahoe. Tickets
range in all price ranges
starting at $25/$35/$45, and a
VIP experience for $75.
