Featured Car of the Month Myrna Finley’s 1930 Ford Sedan Delivery Myrna bought the car because the original owner had a dream about the paint job, particularly the Maltese Cross on the car. The original owner of the car, Kirk Jones, was one of the founding fathers of the BilletProof car show and editor of the Good Guys Gazette. He finished the car and drove it on his honeymoon before selling it to Myrna. After buying the car, Myrna discovered that she still had quite a bit of finish work to do. She added the prop, bought white-walled tires, and had the upholstery done. The top has been chopped 3 inches, the body channeled 4 inches, and the stock vinyl top replaced. The engine is a ’51 Merc Flathead Jack V-8 with Edelbrock heads and dual carb manifold with Stromberg 97s. Stopping is provided by ’59 Buick finned drums on the front and a Ford 8” rear end. Headlights are from a 1937 Dodge truck. They feature turn lights on the top of the headlight shells. The paint is suede blue with scallops. The interior is black and white vinyl and was done by Express Upholstery at Manual’s Auto Body and Custom in Vallejo. As you walk around this car a couple of times you begin to notice some of its more subtle features like the front bumper, which is made from a crop duster prop (which allows you to make a little extra money on the way through the Sacramento Valley) , or the radiator cap, which also has an radial piston aircraft engine. The rear hangers for the exhaust pipes are fabricated from piston rods. There is even a miniature Snoopy flying a dog house hanging from the rear view mirror. Their first excursion with the car was a road trip to Formosa Drag Strip, where she was the push car for a hemi-powered Scotty Finn drag car – the oldest surviving cacklefest dragster. The “Prop Rod” as we like to call it, is fun to take to the car shows because of the amount of attention it gets from everyone, young or old. Kids think it looks like their favorite Hot Wheel and the oldsters remember when this was what a hot rod looked like. This is a true BilletProof-style car. Myrna purchased the car in May of 2003. In September of 2003, Myrna bankrolled the first BilletProof at the Antioch Fairgrounds, where it has been ever since, saving BilletProof from extinction. Presently, there are four BilletProof shows from California to Florida. Myrna is a true hot rod enthusiast, but she doesn’t do it for the accolades, she just does it for the love of the sport. Presidents Corner Hello Boyz and Girlz. Another month down and only 18 more to go. Your newsletter editor Tom just won't let me forget what time of the month it is so I'm writing my article. It's been another busy month for the Boyz again. I hope everyone that was able to attend any of the events that we have had. As of this article several members are headed down Hwy 1 to visit Hearst castle and spending the weekend around the area. I've seen some of the pics shared by Laura Miller and looks like they are getting some great weather for the cruise. Last weekend we had a great showing at the Mare Island cemetery to put flags on all the graves. This project started in 2004 by a cousins of my step son Jason. Rochelle Martinez was on active duty then and felt that Mare Island cemetery needed to be observed. The first year the Boyz as a club did not help, but the 2nd year we got involved and somewhere in there we started paying for the flags. Mark Miller donated the money for most if not all so far. This is a great project and I’m glad to see the amount of participation the club shows for it. Thanks to all. Had a little problem with the cemetery not being cleaned up. I for one am more than a little annoyed with the city of Vallejo for letting this place go unattended, it's a slap in the face of all the Vets that help us do this. Enough of the attitude. VP Greg Trewin is having his Father's Day cruise this month as well, should be a fun day, I might have the 442 up and running by then. Later in the month Kerry Scott is doing his 2nd annual Hot Rod BBQ here in Vallejo even I can make it to this one. I'm sure Jeff Singley will have a lot more to share in this news letter. I want to say happy 40th anniversary to Larry and Bonnie, Steve Lane sent me a pic of Larry and Bonnie dancing. Bonnie had the biggest smile on her face, I didn't know Larry had it in him, haha. Both looked like they were kids again. I will not be at the June meeting but I have a good excuse, my granddaughter is graduating high school and I can't miss it. She lives in Coravallis Oregon so it's going to be more than a 1 day trip. I don't get to see her or her sister very often so I'm making the most of it. On that note my oldest granddaughter is going to be here for the summer and looking to get some summer work to help with financing her way thru college. If anyone has anything please let me know, she is 20 and has a great attitude. I haven't heard anything about anyone doing anything for the 4th of July yet. It would be a shame if we don't put something together. I think we wore Vern out so it's time to find another way for us to get together, even if it's just for a little cruise to get some burgers or something. I'm out of stuff to put on paper so until the next time be safe.
