Located within the Diocese of Baton Rouge, we are closely bound to our diocesan family and the universal Roman Catholic Church. Our prayerful liturgies are community celebrations shaped by a tradition of over one hundred years of Eucharistic worship on this site. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we are called to use our gifts to express our praise, love and thanksgiving to God. We challenge and support one another in humbly living the gospel message and serving the common good as witnesses of Jesus Christ. In support of this mission, St. George Catholic Church strives to: worship God with devotion and celebration; foster continued spiritual development and growth; provide a challenging and quality-filled Catholic educational program; listen and respond to the needs of the parish community; nurture, support and strengthen the family; reach out with love and compassion to serve those in need. Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical, Laborens Exercens, specifically focuses on the meaning and purpose of work in God’s plan. He reminded us that work, in the Book of Genesis, was part of God loving plan for humanity from the beginning. Jesus made work holy. He worked with his own hands, the very hands that would be stretched out upon the cross for us. The risen Lord blesses our work now to carry on His mission in the world. The work that we perform is used by God to form us in His image and likeness so that all may come to know Him through our words and actions. We pray for all who work and for all who are seeking work. 9:30 AM RCIA Dismissal 9:30 AM Adult Religious Education 9:30 AM Children’s Liturgy 7:15 Jr. High PSR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 LABOR DAY CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED 7:30 PM AA 7:30 PM Al Anon TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 5:30 PM RCIA Core Team 5:45 PM Elementary PSR 6:30 PM Men’s Club 7:30 PM 20/30 Ministry Bible Study Our St. George Fair is scheduled for the weekend of October 10-11th. But it also discourages making other distinctions. Most of us are guilty of this in one way or another. We feel more comfortable with our “own kind,” whether we share economic status, ethnicity or political views. But if we stick with those who do not challenge us, who make us feel “normal” and “comfortable,” we might start to believe that everyone should be like us. God made a more diverse world than that. He is present in all people. By opening our hearts to God’s activity in those who differ from us, we open ourselves to him. What’s more, we acknowledge a gospel truth—that all human beings are our neighbors. Loving God, open my heart to your presence in people who are different from me.
