Mr. Heisman and Brandye Mills were met by a huge crowd to congratulate them on their
win in the Riders’ Cup Walking Horse Championship for owner, Roger Baskin.
BAILEYTON,AL-The First Annual Ladies Auxiliary and the
Parkside Athletic Booster Club held their debut horse show at
the park in Baileyton, Alabama. The show was on Saturday,
May 5, 2012 and started at 5:00 pm. The Honorable Sonny
Holt from Shelbyville, TN was the judge of the 36-class event.
There were 152 entries making the gate call at this PRIDE HIO
affiliated horse show.
The proceeds from the show will benefit AWHLA scholarship
program, the Parkside Booster Club and Camp-Smile-A-Mile.
Admission to the show was free and only donations were
accepted. The gate itself raised a total of $1,200.00. Show cochairs, Valerie Smith and J.T. Scott, did a great job putting on a
fantastic first horse show. The Alabama Ladies Auxiliary did a
fantastic job in keeping the entry office organized. There were
36 regular classes with a stick horse and lead line class to start
the festivities and a special field trial class was an added hit!
The show received a grant from the Unified Horse Show
Development Program of FAST which was very appreciated.
This show was full of excitement and many were thrilled with
the turnout and the competition at the show. Many competitors
from Alabama and Tennessee were batting heads to get the
blue.
Ashley Latham started the show off right by singing the
National Anthem. Later in the evening, she made a blue ribbon
victory lap on Rolling Hills Farm’s entry, Ted Will Do. Ray
Solley had a great Three Year Old, They Call Me Saban, that
won in the Amateur division out of a very competitive class.
Back in the ring and back to the winners’ circle was Greyline
with Jimmy Carter in the irons showing out of Swingin’ Gate
Stables. The gorgeous LA Ritz brought home the top honors
for proud owners, Robert and Charlotte Taylor, with Joe Cotten
up in the 15.2 & Under class. Benjamin Gray won the Amateur
15.2 & Under class with Crooked Line for the Benny Gray
family. Jack Heffington carried home the blue in the Amateur
Canter class aboard Reserve World Champion, Ozone’s Major.
5 Way Farms won the Youth 11 & Under class with Showboat
Silk and the Two Year Old Class with I’m Marilyn. Donna Hill
showed A Cadillac By Jazz to claim the blue in a large Ladies
Specialty class.
Roger Baskin’s entry, Mr. Heisman, and Brandye Mills made an
extraodinary show to claim the blue in the Walking Horse Stake
class. Everyone loved watching this champion compete and
show off his championship ways. Reserve went to the Alabama
team of Special Ed and Larry Latham for owners, Mr. and Mrs.
Roger Latham.
Congratulations to all the winners from Baileyton, AL. For

Harrodsburg, KY – On May 5, 2012, The Kentucky Walking & Racking Horse Trainers Association held it’s annual Derby Classic Horse Show at the Mercer County
Fair- grounds. Judges Donald Todd and Donnie May, both of Richmond, KY, were
on hand to preside over the 43 class event, which consisted of both walking and racking classes. Shannon Perkins served as horse show organist , while Teresa Castle
was the horse show photographer. Daniel Carmichael was the official ringmaster for
the show, while Donna Galloway was the show manager. The warm temperatures
brought out horses from all over the state and with 177 entries, it proved to be a successful show for the KWRHTA. The show management and association would like
to thank everyone for coming out to exhibit and enjoy the show.

Sumter County Shrine Horse Show
A Bold Generator
Wins at Sumter
Sumter, SC – It was hot
in Sumter, SC on May 5, but
there was a good breeze
blowing that made the heat
bearable. The show began at
3:00 p.m. with the invocation
given by Gene Frye followed
by a beautiful rendition of
our National Anthem by Jane
Frye on the organ. Shortly
after intermission, a thunder
storm rolled through making
the temperature cooler for the
remainder of the show. The
Honorable Rod Slagle from
Cookeville, TN did a good job
marking the cards for the 35
class event. Dan Shirley did a
super job as announcer and
kept the show moving at a brisk
pace. The proceeds from this
show go to Jamil Jets for the
Shriners’ Childrens’ Hospital of
Greenville, SC.
Stan Tindal and A Bold
Generator made the walk down
victory lane for proud owner,
Kevin Overstreet. Reserve
went to Sam Martin and Rusty
Wallace for Mr. and Mrs. Larry
McLaughlin. Pusher’s Big Bucks
and David Boyce rounded out
the class with the yellow ribbon
for Cindy Keisling.
The SCOOP congratulates

Retirement Haven” will visit and “paint” for you! This is a very
special event for Elmhurst as he is celebrating the 15th anniversary of
his 1997 Breeders’ Cup Sprint victory! The mares-terpises are done
with muzzles and whiskers and will be available for purchase at the
Silent Auction. The painting coordinator will also offer YOUR horse
a chance to paint for a small fee (donation to their sanctuary). Great
fun! (www.ourmims.org)

ONLY AFFILIATED SHOWS WILL BE
ELIGIBLE FOR 2012 WHOA HIGH POINTS
The Walking Horse Owners’ Association has announced a decision to
acknowledge
only affiliated shows in the 2012 WHOA National High Point
Program. In years past
all shows were eligible for high points. The WHOA Board discussed
this issue at the
April meeting and felt it was in the best interest of the industry to only
accept results
for affiliated shows from 2012 forward. WHOA would like all shows
to be affiliated across the country and encourages non-affiliated shows
to make a change toward
affiliating with a USDA certified HIO.
All affiliated shows must send results to the Walking Horse Report
within 30 days of
the show to be included in the WHOA National High Points. Current
standings are available at www.walkinghorseowners.com and www.

The Stanly County Saddle Club’s 56th Annual Walking Horse Show
The weather was warm on Saturday afternoon, May 5, in Albemarle,
NC, drawing a large crowd of both spectators and exhibitors. Many
new faces and horses to the NC circuit made their debuts of the
season. The honorable judge for the evening was Duane Rector; the
exciting Tyler Hege was the announcer, which made for an entertaining show; Russell Aldred did an outstanding job as ringmaster for his
very first time. This was a PRIDE HIO affiliated show. The DQP for
the night was John Dash.
Dark clouds loomed on the horizon during the intermission, but the
rain held off, and the show went on! Taking home the blue ribbon,
trophy, and top honors in the Walking Horse Stake Championship
class at the 56th Annual Stanly County Saddle Club show was Watt
Zone and David Polk. It was a great show and the many fans around
the ring watched a lot of great horses and riders. Congratulations to all
the owners, trainers, and exhibitors for making the gate and letting the
crowd see what a wonderful breed of horse we have, The Tennessee
Walking Horse.
