District Dynamics May 20, 2016 One Team — One Purpose Brabham Students Feeding Families Brabham Middle School recently held a food drive to collect non-perishable food items for area food pantries. They set out to help replenish the shelves at the Willis Food Pantry and WISD Parent Support Center. Students from Mrs. Deschensky's 4th period class brought a total of 547 items. Kayden Corley, pictured left, personally brought more than 300 items to support the cause. In doing so, he won an ice-cream sundae party for his whole class. We are proud of our students for their help in feeding Willis families. Parmley Supports Pennies for Patients Each year, fifth grade students at Parmley Elementary complete a math/economics/reading unit on developing, advertising and running a business. Each year the students have a chance to create and sell actual products for a profit. The money is then donated to a special cause, decided on by the students. This year, Ms. Schultz’s class chose to make pens and donate the money to Pennies for Patients, benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The challenge this year? To raise more money than last year’s $1,580. With a grand total of $2,022.75, the students were able to call their goal a success. Great Job Parmley! One of these tracks is the Certified Nursing Assistant courses in the Career/Tech department. The class, taught by Katrina King, RN, MEd, prepares students to take the state CNA exam and become licensed as a nursing assistant. Throughout the course, students must complete a combination of classroom, lab and clinical time. Field experience is conducted at a nearby nursing home where students have the opportunity to assist with patient care. This year, all thirteen students that took the test passed, and will now be able to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Congratulations to each of these students!
