A FRESH COAT OF PAINT Franklinton was very proud to help celebrate the 100th birthday of Phillip’s Original Coney Island in 2012, perfectly coinciding with Columbus’ Bicentennial. Owner, Nick Manus, who is yet another Manus in the long chain of heritage is kicking off 2013 with a new facelift courtesy of the NCR program, Neighborhood Design Center, and Franklinton Board of Trade. Work has begun and will wrap up as soon as the temperature rises and is ideal for painting conditions. Mike Caradonna, owner of Mike’s Foreign Car also helped Board of Trade Director, Trent E. Smith, restore the Franklinton Sign at the 315 exit to it’s original glory. Some much needed scraping, sanding and painting is all the sign needed to really be eye catching again. Thanks to Mike and his two kids for making the project a success. Mr. Caradonna and Mr. Manus are both Trustees for the Board of Trade and the board is proud to see them making investments in their business and the neighborhood. Unquestionably the largest of these changes will be the demolition of the deteriorating grain elevator located near the railroad viaduct, after which new construction is planned. Similarly, there is new commercial development materializing in multiple locations along the street front, including on the site of the former McDonald’s. Increasing evidence shows that development is a trend in the area, a positive future indicator for the neighborhood at large.
